Everybody has seem the pictures of the jungle biome. It has vines and a lot of water, like the swamps. Should it effectively replace swamps, which aren't that good to begin with?
Post your opinions below.
(Personally I'd like both, but I made this poll for information purposes only)
EDIT: Fixed the poll having two options that were the same.
Jungle and swamp are very different biomes. Swamp is flat, with darker grass and water. Jungle has high saturated grass and foliage, thick trees with bushes and canopies. Both should stay.
Swamps should be improved, but not removed. They have great potential (just look at Twilight Forest's swamps), it just depends whether Jeb_ wants to work on it or not.
Aren't the latter two options effectively the same thing? Maybe not, I don't know. At any rate, I say keep adding new biomes forever. His tweets mentioned the AI is going to do jungle mobs, but won't be in today's snapshot.
I want swamps out because they are a sadistic and ugly biome that doesn't even fit into the original minecraft theme.
This is my opinion, don't hate.
The "original" Minecraft theme would be whatever was in the game when 1.0.0 was released. Because that is the "official" version. Which would make everything in it the original.
Edit: And seeing as Jungles and Swamps are two different things entirely. I'd say no. Swamps should not go.
Yes they both have trees, vines, and water. But swamps are typically flat and from the picture of the jungle I saw(dunno if there have been more than one) had hills and stuff.
Not to mention if I remember correctly the greens were different shades which appeal to different people. So someone may prefer a jungle biome while another person prefers a swamp.

Swamps are ugly but you can collect vines/mushrooms/clay easily...
But jungles have to have a special ability, that makes them diffrent from other biomes (exept the trees), like an incredibly amount of
I mean that jungles could be the only places where (cave)spiders could spawn during the day.(they should hang out in trees)
In my honest opinion we would need a new type of spider for that.
Monkeys, tigers(Wait.. They are from jungles aren't they?), tree frogs(or perhaps just frogs in general), perhaps a new type of water mob, and maybe a snake of some sort should be added in my opinion.
And bananas to tame/breed monkeys. They could have the same purpose as the snowmen. To throw things at hostile mobs. Monkeys should also climb vines :biggrin.gif:

I like both. The swamps provide easy access to mushrooms, clay and vines, while also giving a flat area to build on if you want to build there. Jungles right now are just awesome.
Jungles and swamps are significantly different enough. Why replace a biome, when there are so few already? We should be asking for more biomes in the next major update. Don't replace any of them.
Just a little hearsay on my part, but I one of the tweets by jeb strongly suggests that you might be able to set which biomes your world will be capable of spawning in the future, so if for some strange reason you really don't like one of them you can remove it form generating entirely from your map. I know I won't, but it could be possible in the future.
The below tweet seems to imply that the worlds themselves will contain information on what biomes they are capable of spawning in the next update, as all old worlds will likely be marked not to include new biomes once the update hits, to prevent chunk boundary glitches. Old worlds will not get errors, but you will need a new world to get jungles - Jeb

When no one was looking, the Endermen took forty blocks.
They took 40 blocks. That’s as many as four tens. And that’s horrible.
IMHO no, it doesnt have to go. I dont understand why some people say it should go...
Every biome added to the game, adds more variety to the landscame making it more beautiful.
Lots of people raged about swamps and i think im one of the few players that like the swamps with the dark pool of waters and trees, despite the abrupt change between the swamp and other biomes.
Im really happy how jeb is taking the job and im glad he is going to do things right.
Swamp is one of my favourite biomes. It is great for noobs and slackers like me because it requires almost no tools or combat or effort of any kind to establish a base. Just punch a tree, grab some shrooms but not all of them, go dig a hole in the ground, wait for morning and go out and grab some of the resprouted shrooms. Run around and pick up free bones and arrows.
Once cleared and filled in, it is superb flatland for people who want flatlands on SMP. It is the flattest biome available to the common man without hitting the flatlands button.
It is enderman-free for the most part. If you don't like endermen, just move out a little ways into the vast area of shallow water and build a little foundation for your house there. Fish from your window!
Jungle on the other hand, now that's a chore. It's beautiful but deadly. Getting stuck in a forest means work.

That means that possibly the new world gen and the old one is going to merge more slightly? I Hope So.

You would have to replace the mushrooms with seeds. But yeah. You're pretty much right.
I personally like swamps because its typically a nice flat area to work with. Granted I've never really built in a swamp before. But if I needed space for a project that required a fairly flat area it'd be nice to have the biome in the game.

Yes, swamps are a really nice flat area where you can do big proyects without much terraforming. All ya gotta do is choppin´some trees and you have lots of free space, i did that for my 62x62 storageroom
I do not like the idea of losing a biome, but I do believe swamps need some drastic changes. I would recommend different tree formations like jungles are getting and more water. Trees should be half burred and there should barely be any land.
Id like to see some willow trees in there! id love to see that.. Not sure bout big trees since, imho, swamp trees tend to be little.

However, if it's the first day and you still don't have bones for bonemeal, you'll have to wait on those seeds to grow. With mushrooms, all you need is two blocks of wood, a red, and a brown mushroom for instant food (also, up to three or four bowls with just two blocks), even if they're no meat dropping animals nearby, only sheep. I don't know if it's just me or not, but mushrooms seem to have gotten a bit harder to find outside of swamps, so yeah. I love's me some swamps.

"I don't plan to add a new dimension at the moment. It's just to performance heavy on servers, and the current dimensions need more attention before we start adding new ones." < Yeah, like biomes or actual varied terrain in the nether. Nether ruins didn't do the trick at all.

You could do that on any biome my friend =P

How about we keep the swamps, but have jeb improve them?
Seeing the work hes done on the new biome, I doubt it will be that hard for him to make the swamps more visually pleasing.
