Random biome placement is not a glitch. Random biome placement is not a bug. Random biome placement is not important to anyone but the few folks who can't stand the fact that Minecraftia has a far different climate than Earth.
I am totally agree with you! And im going to answer your question, at least my point of vierw: they want to catch atention of people by "shaking" the masses and protesting just because all because they want to get some reputations being the "scandalous" and controvertial people on minecraft forums.
*sigh* it's not a good idea to misread a person's motives in an attempt to discredit an oppposing viewpoint. I'm not asking that everyone's fun be ruined just for the benifit of people like me. All I really desire is to have the option to play in a world that doesn't look like this:
I mean, at the very least they could tweak the biome code so a snowy tundra and a non-snowy tundra don't spawn in the same place, and modify snowfall so it can fall through leaves. I'm sick of finding patches of un-iced liquid on the edges of tundra water just because a tree is overhanging it, and I'd sure like trees to look more like they are snow covered and less like they were given a light dose of cake frosting. And need I mention the sugar cane growing right next to solid ice? Look, even if you don't mind tundras and deserts being next to each other, it's hard to deny that there is some rather sloppy generation going on here. There is literally no transition between biomes outside of grass color, and when you're dealing with biomes that feature a multitude of non-grass blocks (sand, water), you almost invariably end up with something along the lines of that screenshot.
Honestly, I think Jeb should give players a lot more control over biome generation period. We have world type and structure generation options, so why not add ones for elevation, biome placement, and any other world elements that people have had problems with? If done right, that kind of freedom would go a long way towards satisfying everyone, regardless of opinion.

You...
You I agree with.
You're not the person who wants to outright remove the current generation code because of a few personal issues with it.
The word "climate" infers a sort of coherency behind the interdependent ecosystems...
...of which there is currently none.
Ecosystem: An ecosystem is a biological environment consisting of all the organisms living in a particular area, as well as all the nonliving (abiotic), physical components of the environment with which the organisms interact, such as air, soil, water and sunlight.
Climate: Climate encompasses the statistics of temperature, humidity, atmospheric pressure, wind, rainfall, atmospheric particle count and other meteorological elemental measurements in a given region over long periods. Climate can be contrasted to weather, which is the present condition of these elements and their variations over shorter periods.

You're missing the point.
Minecraft having a different "climate" than reality infers an interdependent coherency among the different areas, like an ecosystem. Right now it makes no rhyme or reason. It's not a "different" climate than Earth. It's not a climate at all.
I don't know why people worry about this so much. ಠ_ಠ
I never get attached to my worlds because I expect that there will be a change in generation. Don't get me wrong, I love to make big, complicated things that takes weeks maybe even months to build. But when i'm forced to move to a new world, I don't care. Because it's just a game. All this time that you, me, us put into our worlds is trivial and wasted. We are building these magnificent structures for our own enjoyment. But when we need to get rid of it all, people start crying over it. Which, to me, makes no sense at all. Why are you complaining about losing stuff you spent good time on in a video game?
I guess the moral of this rant is: Don't get too attached to something you did in a video game.

Ecosystems involve living organisms and has little to do with humidity, temperature or anything.
Climate may not be perfect but it is a more suitable term to describe it than ecosystem.
Minecraftia has a different climate than Earth. Deal with it.
The world / environment / playscape that we're actually playing on and interacting with should be first on their list.
No it really shouldn't because there is already a basic space to play.
What should be first on their list is ensuring you can play without bugs destroying the experience. The environment you are playing in is entirely pointless unless the game actually plays properly.
You think it should be first simply because it's the pet project you use to get attention on the forums.
Minecraft doesn't have a "different climate" than Earth.
By saying that Minecraft has a "different climate" than Earth, as if to explain the odd biome placements, you are implying that there is a climatic mechanism driving the placements of biomes and weather in Minecraft different than we find here on Earth, but that is not the case. There is no climatic mechanism driving the placements of biomes and weather, it's just random and incoherent.
You think it should be first simply because it's the pet project you use to get attention on the forums.
I don't want attention, I want my server not to have to wipe all our progress just so we can enjoy new content. Bugs don't generally cause players to have to disregard and wipe all of their creative builds and start all over after playing for months. Changing the terrain code does. This is a legitimate issue.

Enjoy the new content?
Like the boss fight that doesn't work in SMP?
Or maybe by new content you mean the new item duplication glitch players can exploit on your server?
Or perhaps you mean enjoy the new content of the NPC villagers that still aren't complete?
Or did you want to enjoy the new content of yet another collision glitch causing carts to gain ridiculous momentum?
And once again no one forces you to wipe anything. If you really really don't want to wipe stuff then get a third party program which will let you move it (better yet, get the plugin that gives access to multiple worlds on one server). If you want to be entirely without any third party programs or plugins then you just have to suck it up and start over.
You have an option, whether you like that option or not.
So where's the option for people who want the actual bugs worked out of the game? Taking up coding and finishing it themselves? I've yet to see a mod that fixes the item duplication glitch. There's a mod for spawning dragons in SMP but the actual boss fight still does not function properly after they're spawed. I haven't seen any mods that finish the current NPC villagers. These are things that actually need to be fixed because the community isn't going to fix it themselves.
Oh yea, great, I totally want to explore a half-finished biome instead of seeing the bugs worked out of the game!
They shouldn't even be adding new biomes at this point, frankly. There's so much polishing and bug-fixing left to be done there is no reason to be adding more content.
But if that's seriously the only reason you have for why terrain generation is a serious issue then I guess we're done here because that is a terrible reason.

Ugh...
I would rather they make interesting things to explore more than polishing IMO. It doesn't make sense to play a game with nothing interesting to explore. The jungle biome is a sign of things to come. That is the polish that the biomes need.
--I've said this in other threads but they need to set aside world generation as a huge project, much like the API. Tundra should only be near plains and forests, not deserts and jungles etc. It just looks tacky even if it does exist rarely in this world we live in. Plains mixed with deserts mixed with mountains? Go ahead, but snow being in a desert? Really now??

The population of minecraft increase every day and each one of those populating minecraft wants something from him. I said this already but im going to say it againeven if i dont want to. Jeb is ONE man, and every man has limitations. He cant satisfy everyone at the same time! There are other BIG issues out there that should be solved like duplication glitches. EVERY relese INEVITABLY has bugs and he MUST FIX them and at the same time satisfly players/customers.
In the other hand, i think you think coding is THAT easy. Thousands of lines of codes spread all over the place to locate the problem and then find the problem itself and find a WAY to solve it. If he could do it that easy im sure JEB already did it.
