Ladders regaining a collision box, mixed feelings. I'd be happy either way, but being able to stand on ladders would be more help than harm to the gameplay.
Only difference between the two: vines can be destroyed by water, ladder do not. (If I remember correctly.)
No, it's stupid, because not everyone wants to use freaking vines as their ladder source in their base.. because that would look utterly stupid.
We shouldn't be forced to use ugly, un-aesthetically pleasing things just because some of you are so worked up about parkour maps. This is a survival game, not a parkour simulator. It's prime function is to be a building/survival game. Not the latter. Functionality of things in this game should cater to the former.
This was a bad move. He is caving in to the whining masses. I'm very disappointed. Total indecision and indecisiveness on his part.
Here's a better idea. Put collision boxes on vines. and use vines for your bloody parkour maps. What's that? You don't want to use vines because they'd be stupid looking? Bravo, well done! Now you know how I feel at the thought of using them in my base.
Vines would actually be more interesting for Parkour maps. It's a more natural kind of terrain/block. So you are flying around and jumping off things in a more natural terrain, rather than manufactured looking terrain. Fits more with the parkour mentality. Cities are not designed around Parkour. Parkour enthusiasts instead use that existing urban terrain as a canvas for their silly artform.
Seriously? Ladders not having hitboxes ruined trapdoors. They're useless in 1.1. I don't give a damn about parkour maps yet I'm affected by the change.

It isn't just for parkour, it is the fact that you cannot exit a trapdoor via a ladder now unless the trapdoor is placed up a block, and in lots of places on many peoples maps (line on a roof for example) it is not possible to move the trapdoor up without it looking stupid. Just becasue YOU don't want it changed doesn't make it a bad idea to change them back.
When he says "When attached to block",he must mean the top piece has to be attached to a block
I'm sorry, but you have no way of knowing that.
It almost certainly means that the vine has to be on one of the faces of a block for you to climb it. I say this because the fact that ladders are regaining their collision box seems to imply that vines will not have a collision box. Without a collision box there would be no way to climb vines that are hanging down from a block.
Vines grow on their own... So... Using them on the side of a wall or something will eventually result in that wall being covered in vines. It's useful, but I predict some "Vines are useless since they grow so much >.<" threads. Oh well, I'm just happy there will be MORE versatility in items rather than less.
In coding, you can code the block to make you go up without the block having any collision box.
So i do know what im talking about,im a Java coder myself :\
Derp derp derp derp derp.
Have you ever used Minecraft ladders?
It uses the same buttons as walking forward and backward to climb.
So without a collision box you would simultaneously walk through and start climbing a vine.
I may not be a java coder but that sort of mathematical error is not the kind of thing computers enjoy.
Actually, walking into the vine will make it check for the up key being pressed. If it is being pressed,it will stop
forward movement and will change it to upward movement, then if it is released it will let you down.Again, this is a easy process. This could happen,so i do know what im talking about.
Again, the "up" key and the "forward" key are the same key (on default key bindings, "W").
If you wrote a piece of code that would stop the player when they entered a block with a vine in it so that pressing the "W" key would make you climb up the vine instead of heading forward that piece of code would be called a "collision box".
Yes, it is an easy process, but I kind of doubt you really know much of what you're talking about since your suggestion to fixing the problem of walking through vines is to give them a collision box even while you try to claim your solution does not involve a collision box.
It's spelled "climbable." There's a silent freaking "b" at the end of the word "climb." This is third grade stuff here.

A ladder didn't have a collision box,and yet you could still climb it.your argument is not a good one.
Ladders have to be placed on a block, they can not hang freely. The collision box of the block it's attached to would stop you even if the ladder did not have a collision box.
Which is how climbing vines without a collision box will worked.
You still have not explained a way to allow for climbing up something that is free-hanging without giving it a collision box.
That's ok, I'll give you the only solution: Add a separate key for "up" that is different from the "forward" key. (P.S. - This is probably not going to happen.)
However vines don't block water *sadface* so I guess i'll be back to using signs for my mob elevators.

Interesting
And, if any of you didn't know this, mobs can't see you if you're behind vines.
Can be very useful for some sort of mob sniping hideout that blends with the area :tongue.gif:

Remember people, Jeb only said "vines (when attached to a block) will be climbable"
No one wants to run around in a swamp just to stopped because they bumped into a vine.
I'm sorry, but you have no way of knowing that.

The immensity of that tree....
You just made my day!
Can you say "Treehouse"?

You would have to avoid them because you couldn't walk through them
Because they would have a collision box.
Just admit you're wrong.
