Well, got home, opened up Minecraft, and started playing.. A new update? Alright, I'l download it.
The first moment I started a new world, I noticed that the terrain generated differently. Ever since 1.8, I've been completely bored of Minecraft. The terrain generator was really what was keeping me playing, and to see 1.8... well, it didn't satisfy me.
So, I'd like to devote this post to thanking Jeb for the start of the fix of the terrain generation. Sure there are bugs and things that need to be improved, but Jeb fixed a lot of it. I can now have a large hill in a forest, have snow in pine forests, and tundra biomes are improved too. I can find random patches of trees in plains.
For the first time ever, I have an incentive to explore. I am no longer seeing the exact same thing where ever I go. The generator is starting to become good again. There is a chance we can get some good looking mountains outside of the extreme hills biome, which makes me incredibly happy.
Thanks a lot Jeb, I can finally play Minecraft without boring myself in the first five minutes. :biggrin.gif:

What do you guys think? Thank or "dis" Jeb?
I agree, but also disagree. I agree he is improving it, definitely. But I disagree it's amazing. Strongholds are still boring, broken by mineshafts/caves, etc etc. And the terrain itself, is still restrained by a 128 height limit. It really doesn't do justice for Mountains, Oceans, etc, with only 50 (giving room for the general rise from ocean to normal land) for Mountains.
I see what COULD be for Terrain Generation, and am merely tapping my fingers patiently waiting, and hoping Jeb sees a similar 'beautiful' possibility. Especially so with the 'world type' options, being able to give SO much unique creativity to the game without angering those who like a more tame, generic world.
So yes, I'm happy for these baby steps, but I hope we see some HUGE leaps in 1.2! :tongue.gif:

I don't recall saying that I was amazing. I simply said that It is a very large improvement over 1.0, and makes the game playable for me again. :wink.gif:
I completely agree with you. There are a lot of things that should be tweaked, but I'm sure Jeb will eventually get around to doing it. (The Mod API is more important in my opinion.)

Don't need to say Amazing, rather your uppity posting sounded it :tongue.gif:
I disagree about the Mod API being more important personally. There is a superior mod API coming out in a month or two (not Spout) that Mojang wished to use, but due to contract matters, couldn't. this one is more so a forced version done by inferior individuals (in my opinion, and the opinion of others who know what I speak of), and it really sadly isn't going to help too much over-all.
Not to say it's BAD, just it's not going to be as good as it should be, though hopefully, that can be remedied over time by improvements to it.
And I'd argue Jeb should work with the Bukkit Terrain Gen plugin. Add that level of customization to maps, and you'll have people swooning over you :tongue.gif: (of course, simplify the concept). Again, just opinion.
Just flew around in Creative for half an hour. Much better. I think the cave generation is cooler too. I just see more open spaces. Places you could build something in and still have a view. Places that will get PACKED with monsters during the day, but have loads of ore if you can wade through them.
Not to downplay the surface generation. Haven't discovered a new desert mountain since 1.4, and the regular mountain biome has a much smoother and more interesting transition. Feels more like geology and less like the terrain generator decided to make that area a mountain biome, you know what I mean?
