Because bukkit don't get access to Minecraft's files before it's released? They don't work at Mojang, you know?
Why wouldn't they make this stuff available to mod authors prior to release, just like a lot of other companies (e.g. Blizzard)? Otherwise they alienate everyone who uses mods.
That's why there's a modding API coming, unless you haven't heard. Did you think that mods were never going to get recognised?
And plus, Minecraft is still a good game without any mods.
Even when the modding API is released, they will still need to make the changes available to mod authors prior to releasing the patch. Otherwise new patches become something everyone dreads, since it breaks all the stuff that people want to use.
If Mojang had any business sense, they would make this stuff available to mod authors prior to release, just like any respectable business (e.g. Blizzard). Otherwise they alienate everyone who uses mods, who are responsible for making Minecraft actually a good game.
You don't know what you are talking about. And you are generally insulting towards Mojang with that closing sentence.. implying the mods make the game great. Very smug attitude.
This is standard operating procedure. Mojang is not under any obligation to make sure that modders are spoon fed any information and data, and to help them make their mods work more quickly with new versions.
Blizzard doesn't make anything available to modders before release. You are just making things up there. Blizzard is the most secretive company about their patches that there is. They don't do anything to help modders at all. I don't know what the hell you are talking about. The most they do is have a public test realm server for upcoming changes.. which is pretty much the same as having snapshots of changes to test before release.
THAT IS ALL THEY DO.
You are impatient, ignorant of how things work, and just generally whining.
Mods and server updates can't do jack **** until a patch is out. That's how it works. People who been involved with this game for ages realize this, and always wait until a patch has been out a day or two before upgrading, so that their mods can catch up. They don't expect such impossible behavior from Mojang. They don't whine about it. It will not happen.
You'll have bukkit and mod updates soon. You need to learn patience. The world won't end if you can't play 1.1 the way you want for a couple of days.

Let me see if I understand you correctly.
You want them to release the code for what they are going to do to people who make mods BEFORE they release it generally to the public. In order for a mod coder to have everything he needs to update before a patch, he would need the latest stable version of the code Mojang has. If Mojang has stable code, they release it to everyone. So you are basically saying that Mojang should privately release an update to "modders" and then wait a bit until they update before releasing it to everyone?
Do you see why I consider this proposal ludicrous?

Blizzard releases all of their patches on a public test realm for months prior to releasing a patch, which provides ample opportunity for mod authors to update. So what you've said is incorrect, and the rest of your post reads like a rant from an angry fan boy. I don't know if Mojang does what I suggested and Bukkit is just slow, or if they're not doing it, in which case Mojang probably should.

Don't update. When there is an update coming, remind your players, "hey, don't update when the new version comes out". Then wait for bukkit to update. Do you know what your alternative implies? It basically means that instead of releasing the game, they send it to bukkit. Which brings up the question- why only bukkit? Why does only the bukkit team get it? Why not Canary? or your average Mod developers for single player? Or are you suggesting they release bits outside the standard update channel?
because, err- they already do that. You know, the pre-releases.
Wrong, Blizzard releases all of their patches on a public test realm for months prior to releasing a patch.
That's what he already said. You know who else releases public pre-releases of upcoming patches? Mojang for minecraft. Why don't the bukkit devs work on new versions of bukkit from the pre-releases? Hell if I know.

It's users, on the other hand...
See, here's an idea.

Tell that to the person who said this, because they were the one who suggested that Bukkit didn't have access:
I see what you did there.
