Just like the name of the topic states. Anyone here feel like the new snapshot has kind of a 1.7.3 feel to it? I kind of do. Some of the biomes are smaller. I found a small snow biome with a small pine forest and I've seen a couple of smaller than normal deserts. Some of the mountain biomes are smaller. I've even seen places that have some snow on sand. Beaches are back and I think a little more common than they use to be. I've seen some huge hills in snow forests, deserts and regular forests. That's about it. All this KIND OF makes it feel a little like 1.7.3 to me. What about you? :smile.gif:
It feels like a mediocre version of 1.7 IMO. The beaches look artificial and unrealistic most of the time, and smoother terrain just crashes into the nearest river, or large body of water. Most of the sand isn't level enough to look good, and needs to be fixed. Beaches often look randomly added in instead of natural.
The terrain changes are nice and 1.7 like, but they really are occuring without any attention to what biome they are in. So yeah it's technically random, but not to the degree of 1.7. There are still smoothing that is making it look fundamentally different than 1.7.Also the terrain lines and angles are often overwhelmingly close together. Terain lines were never so commonly as steep as they are now. Maybe it's the lighting, maybe not.
So yeah we have more hills, but the hills aren't all appealing. The smoothed hills are just like the hills of 1.8, they just are now found in different biomes. There are some 1.7 hills and terrain, but it is not nearly perfect yet.

I don't really expect the terrain gen code to get completely back to the way it use to be. I only expect the terain gen code to be around 60% or so at best back to the way it use to be. Right now I'd say we're around 15% back to the way it use to be IMHO.
