In the last snapshot release, jeb 'fixed' the ladders to have no hitboxes, which quite annoys me, because i've been using those hitboxes for all kinds of things.
with the hitboxes changed, you can't stand on top of the ladders anymore, so you'll have to put ladders all the way to the top, when before you could just stand on them and jump up.
ladders and it's hitboxes were also used a lot in agility courses, free run courses, and traps, which are all impossible now.
what do you guys think of it?
please discuss.
EDIT:damn apple autocorrect, it kept changing hatboxes to hatboxes :tongue.gif:
EDIT2:see?
Maybe the agility courses, traps, etc shouldn't have been exploiting a collision bug that was likely to be fixed. Think of that?

Colored text indicates in-character statements/actions. Because Forum Games has basically just been a big open RP for a long time now and it's the only place I ever post anymore, when I post at all.
Moving down 3 slots is hardly a good reason for that. there's just not that much activity on the forums right now. Sit tight and the posts will come on their own.
Sorry about the mini-mod, but that's a bit excessive.
I am. I love that it's changed now. I've always hated the ladder hitbox. Getting caught on it when trying to traverse passages, etc., has always annoyed me.
The change is a definite improvement when using ladders for their original intent (climbing up and down vertical passageways). The only thing it breaks are instances where they were used for unintended purposes. And they still block water, which is the only one that I could see really causing a lot of uproar.
I'm all for this change, and don't ever want it to go back.
*sigh* That's not why the community is so upset. Think of jumping puzzles, for example.
Yes, because making sure jumping puzzles still work is far more important than actually making ladders not have stupid hitboxes that are inconvenient and annoying for everything else, like using ladders to, you know, actually climb up and down walls.
Sure, it breaks the current jumping puzzles, but just think of the improved courses they will be able to make now. They can force you to slide off one ladder and barely catch a different ladder pretty far away, whereas people would have just jumped off the first ladder before.
Also, you don't have to worry about dying from fall damage by hitting the top of a ladder anymore.

Yeah, I could see how being able to have a hatch at the top of a ladder was "inconvenient and annoying", or being able to tear down a tall ladder at faster than a snail's pace. Or being able to use ladders to get up a ravine wall, and stand on it to mine out a spot as you pass.
What exactly are the downsides of being able to stand on a ladder?
Piece of crap forum, losing my post twice.
TL;DR:
* All the changes to ladders (except reduced cost) have been negative.
* Trying to prevent people building ugly constructions is pointless, because dirt box-houses are still around.
* In the real world, you might not be able to do ladder acrobatics, but you can have movable ladders, different shapes of ladder, and a ladder doesn't magically prevent placing a torch or hatch 0.9m away.
* Because our placement is so limited, we need more versatile climbing just to keep up with actual realistic designs.
Why do people continue to think that by removing hitboxes, he's somehow allowed blocks to be placed inside blocks. It's not that simple. There's a reason why water doesn't already flow through signs and such: because it would be incredibly difficult to fix.

If Jeb_ fixes water collision with signs, ladders, etc... Well, I hope he doesnt. I made the conversation in a spoiler about what happened.

Me: You changed something... In Minecraft.
Jens: And what was that?
Me: The ladders, your work is great. But the ladders...
Jens: What about them?
[Me opens the Minecraft code for ladders, searching for it's collision settings]
Me: You removed the collision box for them.
[Me helps Jens up]
Me: Fix it.
Jens: Ok! Ok! But first, look away.
Me: Why?
Jens: Just do it, you want the code fixed dont you?
Me: Pull anything and your porkchop.

[Jens throws the glowing ball]

[Me disappears in thin air]
Jens: Hm, shouldn't have tried.
Sure, you need one more ladder, but does anyone remember the ladder system before there were hitboxes where you were able to climp up a string of ladders that skipped every other block?

It made for half the resources of making a continuous string of ladders. Now that that's back, how can you possibly complain about an extra ladder?

If they still do- It's going to make it hard to get out of a vertical shaft that uses ladders and hatches. Can't wait to find out.

that's a good point you have there.
it wasn't really exploiting a bug, more like just using what was kinda there, and it wasn't even a collision bug.
also, added a poll
30 minutes and a bump?

They're good in some occasions, but in most occasions the change was pretty bad. My traps and puzzles were ruined.
As well as pretty much all my builds, since I always put a trapdoor above them.
erm, what are the advantages exactly?
the only thing i see is that mine carts can now pass through them, but that's it.

There was no bug to exploit.
I think it is a good thing, no more breaking ladders by mistake...well scratch that, less breaking ladders by mistake.
