EVEN THOUGH HE ANNOUNCED HE WOULD FIX IT 8 HOURS AGO!?!?!?!?!
WHAT A TERRIBLE HUMAN BEING!
I wasn't complaining dude. I was replying to someone who was acting like Jeb already fixed it. Chill out and we'll wait it out and we'll see what Jeb does. K?

You were justifying the pointless complaints of others, which is just as bad.
There is no reason to complain at this point. The issue has been acknowledged and scheduled for change. Anyone who wants to complain that it didn't happen earlier is just a whiny brat and there is no need to justify their behavior.

Correct, about this one feature, height variations. There are still various things many people want back. However if people want to discuss it, let them. No need to argue anymore.
Posts on any other subject do not belong here. There are multiple threads for every other subject already.
I never said they should do it on this thread. First you go all cocaine on me because I tell someone Jeb hasn't done anything yet and that we should wait to see what he does. Then, I agree with you on something but then you somehow interpret it into something you can turn against me. Again, people still have the right to discuss this but complaining is pretty pointless but it can still draw attention to the whole generator. We don't know what's going to happen so we'll just have to keep watch. That's all.

"let them." as in "let them discuss the various things many people want back" as in "let people discuss all the other problems they still have in this thread." So if that wasn't your intention you should have perhaps thought of a more clear way of expressing yourself. Using vague language is extra pointless on the internet, and not really necessary in vocal conversation either.
Anyways, on a more related note, slightly larger biome heights are just what the terrain needed. Now we can get cool cliffs and such.
But I personally think that the world type button being used is cooler, even if it's one world type used just for Creative. Definitely will be useful for redstone engineers.

"Science isn't a matter of WHY, it's a matter of WHY NOT? WHY is so much of our science dangerous? Why don't you marry safe science if you love it so much? In fact, why don't you invent a special safety door that won't slam you in the butt on your way out? BECAUSE YOU ARE FIRED!" -Cave Johnson
I wonder how many people have already taken this for granted >_<
But seriously, it's like Jeb is answering all of our wishes one by one in a reasonable way. If he can finally make terrain similar to 1.7/1.8-ish [AKA interesting, fruitful, real beaches, etc] then he shall be a god.
Also I KNEW he'd get a world gen option out eventually ;D
I think that Jeb should take his time with updating the terrain, as it would be ideal to have all terrain generation changes solidified into one update, so as not to have people have to go through more than one new world if they want to start with the fresh terrain, again.
I personally, think that the following features should be addressed before anything is released.
1) Make terrain height more random / independent of biome type. Plains / swamps should be flatter in general but mountains should be able to be present in biomes other than extreme hills rarely.
2) Have tree density vary more, as currently every biome of the same type had trees at exactly the same density as one another.
3) Return some of the old biome types from 1.7 (Rainforest, Savanna, Shrubland, Seasonal Forest) or add some entirely new ones.
4) The return of beaches, both gravel and sand.
And these next features would be nice to have, but would make terrain generation more interesting. (May be more work to implement though)
5) Better biome transitions... more gradual or more logical. (desert to tundra in 1 chunk is sort of abrupt)
6) Work on the ocean a good chunk of players find them boring... in particular increase the tree density a bit so even a small island will have at least one tree in case you are spawned in the ocean... or allow passive mobs to spawn on ocean islands. Maybe a unique dungeon (sunken ship)
7) A few additional rarer terrain features (e.g. volcanoes, waterfalls (several water blocks spawning together))
8) Each biome could also be given unique elements (blocks, items and landforms) that would not be found any place else. Making exploration to find these biomes more interesting and rewarding.
Some biomes that already are well fleshed out in this regard are the swamp and the mushroom biome.
- The swamp contains mushrooms, vines, lily pads and easily found clay.
One thing that could be added trees planted by the player here should regrow in the same shape as other swamp trees.
- The mushroom biome contains mooshrooms, mushrooms and mycellium.
The others could have more unique elements added to them.
- Forest has birch trees and rarely some wolves. (might need a bit more content.)
- Taiga has Pine trees, common wolves and snow and ice as of a recent snapshot. (Fairly good)
- Desert has cactus, sand/sandstone, dead plants and occasionally NPC villages.(probably fine as it is.)
- Plains are generic and flat, but should probably be like that. (A new plant or mob found there would add a bit more variety perhaps. (besides NPCs)
- Tundra/Frozen Plains have snow and ice. One suggestion that might be interesting is large chunks of ice (aka glaciers) could be found in this biome or just massive ice sheets covering the land and lots of barren exposed rock rather than top soil. This would help make it be more than just a taiga with less trees.
-Extreme Hills have hills ... but other than that it would be nice to see more variety in tree density and potentially barren rocky terrain above certain elevation with snow on top. Another interesting idea would be giving the extreme hills biome it's own unique plant (that only grows above a certain elevation. (like a rare flower that can be used in potion brewing)
-Oceans need more variety in general. Tropical islands, beaches, sandbars, sunken ships with treasure even a new tree type only native to ocean islands would make it more worthwhile looking for them. (coconut palm)
-Rainforests ... once brought back should contain
- ferns (as before in 1.7)
- Very tall trees (potentially even a new tree type) Basically make them blot out the sun if you are on the forest floor in sort of a canopy formation. Monsters could survive during the day in the jungle on the floor.
- Vines
- Cocoa bean producing tree... (why can those things only be found in dungeons)
and I've gone on far too long...

When no one was looking, the Endermen took forty blocks.
They took 40 blocks. That’s as many as four tens. And that’s horrible.
Great.. I'm heavily invested in yet another map.
If this change borks our SMP map, I might just give up.
Final was supposed to mean we could go ahead and build without fear of map-breaking changes.
Guess time will tell.
Same here. I waited until 1.0.0 to make a new SMP server and now we've got months invested into it. I'm very hesitant to upgrade because I'm fairly certain that half of my town will suddenly be under a foot of snow :-\
...seriously now...
There does seem to be some problem with the terrain generator with old saves. I loaded up my previous save and where I was turned cold >.< the water was turning to ice in front of my eyes as soon as I loaded the save...
I'm not too worried anymore about the worlds as I've recently re-installed Minecraft. But I see the frustration others have and... *raspberry* haha. Don't update. Simple enough. You don't like it, don't use it.
You do like it, update and hope you don't get buried by snow :biggrin.gif:

One post made by 1 person is not going to stop 1000000+ forum users. Deal with it.
