I finally got a description what "fix ladders" meant, so I've removed the collision box around ladders.
Jeb just tweeted that he has 'fixed' ladders by removing the hitboxes from the top, bottom and sides of the ladder. This is huge. One example of why this change is great is with item drops. Currently you must use signs to hold back water because items (and mobs) can land on and get stuck on the top of ladders. Ladders cost less than sign and THEY STACK! No more crafting and transporting 10+ ladders at a time, placing them and crafting more during water manipulation in traps and item/mob transportation!
One sign = 13 sticks. (6 wood = 12 sticks + 1 stick)
One ladder = 3.5 sticks (2 ladders = 7 sticks)
And Ladders stack.
So now for the same amount of wood we can suspend or block over 3 times as many water blocks, and can craft and carry the whole lot in a couple of stacks.
Thanks Jeb. It's listening to the community like this that is making this game better and better.
Note: I'm not great with twitter. If anyone can post a link to the URL of that tweet I'll add it to OP when I get home from work.
Will ladders 'break' when touched by liquids? Or will they still block liquids?
Ladders will still block liquids, but now they behave like signs. Normally the hitbox for ladders is farther out than the item itself, so an object falling down a shaft that has ladders may hit the top of a ladder and just stay there because the ladders hitbox is like a solid object. With signs, this isn't true for items.
Ladders have just been fixed to make the hitbox behave like that of a sign. This will be great because, as stated in the original post, ladders are stackable.
Actually genius, Ladder cost MORE than Fences. Fences use 6 sticks while Ladders use 7 sticks. Also Mobs can hold on to Ladders instead of being pushed by the water.

Actually, TC mixes up fences, ladders, and signs all in one post. It's kind of confusing.
On topic, I don't see why this needed to happen. I thought it made sense for ladders to have a hitbox, but meh.

Facepalm :dry.gif:
You get two ladders per craft dumbass, so that means one ladder is 3.5 sticks.
Umm... Ladders always took 7 sticks to make, and have always stacked.
The only glitch I knew of them that was added in a secret update in 1.1 is if you put a ladder above a fence gate, you could not climb the ladder, though you used to be able to in 1.0 and below. Did they fix that? If not, I don't care.
Yeah, this actually doesn't sound that great. The current/old behavior of ladders is great for exploring - you can use them to climb mountains and move around ravines and caverns. Without being able to stand on top, that will be a lot more difficult.
It also makes tall ladders a pain in the ass to deconstruct. Currently, you can stand on top of the ladder and break it down, as if it were a dirt column. With this change, you have to be holding onto the ladder to break it, which reduces your breaking speed considerably.
If Facebook, Myspace, and Twitter were all destroyed, 99% of teens would go insane. If you're one of the 1% that would be laughing at them, copy this into your signature and hope it happens.
Well this is actually perfect. I presume this gets rid of the obnoxiously out-there hitbox for the ladders. So now I can actually make a downwards ladder shaft without having to get dangerously close to the edge to actually reach past the hitbox?
And you can still stand on them but items can't?
Sweeeeeet >:3

Fixed :tongue.gif:
Actually thats a very good question. If not you will have to hold shift while partially within the block the ladder is in.
If standing on ladders was still available then you could make it like this:

fences are also 2 per craft
