Today I got to the end for the first time (on a server), and this is what I found.
There were no dragons, because people with flight abilities were abusing it to get massive Exp by repeatedly killing dragons. So the server owners turned dragons off.
There were endermen, but after killing 100 of them... it got boring. The exp they give is horrible and they do wear out my armor something fierce, something the other hostile mobs rarely do... which makes endermen kind of pointless.
There is lots of enderstone... and nothing else. So I mined a chestful and got fed up with it. If there were any other resources, they were long gone by the time I got there.
The only positive note was that it is a fairly small, flat and unobstructed terrain... making it the ideal place to PVP against other players.
And that was about it. Which makes me say... it's pretty pointless. After a couple hours of play it becomes pretty worthless.
Or, did I miss something? Is there something else there that gives the end some "life"?
As I said a million times Notch could've implemented a sky dimension instead of this.
The idea of a Sky Dimension was scraped because of this ugly useless floating rock in the infinite void of space.
Do you go into the boss room expecting an adventure?
No, you go there to fight the boss. That's the only point of the End, and it does the job well.
About the whole multiplayer thing, do you really expect people to play fair when they have the option to cheat? And how do you expect Mojang to "fix" this? People can mod the game easily to change anything they do, so they can't permanently fix it. What you need to do is find a server with people you trust, or even make your own, which is set up the way you want it.
"The End is a lot like the Final Destination stage from Super Smash Brothers where you fight master hand. Let's add ****ing corn and kazoos everywhere."
~Some guy on another thread.
He could've took more time to develop a sky dimension the opposite of the nether, instead he gave us a useless boss and many unfinished features in 1.0.0.
One fact is clear. Mojang shouldn't have released it so quickly and should've took more time to develop better idea and develop the game.

they should have just made the ender another dimension instead of replaceing sky dimension, you know have both.
thing i will say though is i'm pissed at how late Notch left it to tell us that he scrapped skylands, he even said at PAX after the nether improvements were added he would work on sky dimension and he left it way to late to tell us he changed his idea andn thats what pissed me off the most. we were ready for sky dimension after the nether update and waited excited and than he scrapped the entire concept for a boss battle ground.
The end may seem pointless now, but what would it be like if the dragon egg did something (such as make more dragons[possibly tamable]) then it would be worth it wouldn't it I mean you already have flying from creative mode so that would be cool to implement.
I think the main problem here is that 'the end' is essentially single player exclusive. There needs to be some way where each person 'gets their own' dragon.
They could finally make infinite strongholds then make the pairs of 3 each go to a new dragon, just like how the nether works with ruins and netherwart. If there were only 3 ruins in the nether it would be super hell.

BBCode Render failed due to reaching MaxNestingDepth(80) for Tag: spoiler
I did.
It was a mistake.

Flawed assumption.
The scrapping of the sky dimension led to this ugly useless floating rock in the infinite void of space. Agreed, it's rather useless.
It was just meant to be a surreal battlefield for the 'final battle'.
Nothing else.
