You will last a very long time... however... your hunger will drop very fast on EASY, and so will your armor's HP.
Also,if you step out.... you are dead.
But what about iron?
You die in less that 9 seconds.
Diamond nor iron is overpowered.
(Thanks TMI for the armor.)
And in servers.... diamond armor is crap if you know what you are doing.
Facts:1 Nerf:0
If your in iron or diamond armor creepers do minimal damage at point blank range now. Lava I think ignores armor now though i'm not sure. Not to mention that diamond armor makes the ender dragon's attacks do very little damage not to mention its durability. Alone these wouldn't be that much of a problem but since I can get the materials for 4 sets of iron armor in one mining trip easily it makes armor OP.

Your a such a great friend that if we were both in a falling plane and there was only one parachute... I would feel really bad and think of you often.
I think we need 2-3 tiers between Iron and Diamond.
Not only are there very few metals to mine, but compare the durability of Iron tools to those of Diamond tools.
Iron Tools have a durability of 251, while Diamond Tools have a WHOPPING 1562.
I think this is a justified mission, but a tag like #FixMinecraft is HIGHLY insulting, and I will not do it. However, I will sign the petition, because armor is way too strong, ores way too easy to obtain.
Also, I don't know if anyone realizes this, but the player has been heavily improved, while mobs are still basically the same.
The game IS WAY TOO EASY. Anyone who says otherwise sucks at the game. :/ Sorry.
I play on Hard mode. Hardcore mode is difficult, but it's a different kind of difficulty that I'm not interested in. Trying to not die at all is a stupid challenge, because it's going to happen from stupid **** like a dumb shift key and a long, long, long drop.
EDIT: I will sign the petition if it's less insulting. Fixing Minecraft does not work for me. Other positive words like change, or improve would be far better. Because you're not getting a reaction by insulting them. Nor will your references to older days, because then you just sound like a victim of nostalgia. Jeb will stop reading immediately, as he has done before.
Things should never be fixed by removing things players enjoy (even if it is not all players) - Look at how badly boats and mob traps have been nerfed. Mojang has done enough of that.
However this DOES bother a lot of people. It could be fixed by adding more and harder end game content - or by replacing things instead of removing them.
Creatures could be tweaked or added that drop new things in late game areas like strongholds or the nether. "Hard" and "Hardcore" difficulty could also be made substantially more difficult without causing a lot of grief - but that doesn't sound as fun :-3
There would be a ***** fest extravaganza if armor got nerfed now, but I would very much like to see tougher monsters or new end game content that requires diamond armor and enchantments to survive.

Please only+ me if I post something funny or informative.
Firstly, please note this is not a whining thread. This is an action thread, where we will actually attempt to get Mojang to listen to our requests. I'm sure many of us have remembered the days of Beta, Alpha, or even for some people such as myself, Infdev or even further beyond that time. I think we can all remember the days when armor was helpful, yet you had to use instincts to survive. The player was required to outsmart the mobs. These days, it takes fifteen minutes to get iron armor, which is almost godlike ingame now. You could stand out in the middle of the forest, throughout an entire night, AFK, and still not die (It HAS been done!) due to the Minecraft 1.0.0 nerf. Don't get me started on diamond armor, takes at most three days to obtain, and since it takes ages to lose the slightest bit of durability, you might as well go on peaceful mode, because you're practically invincible. Creeper right behind me these days? I don't even flinch. No need to, because I have diamond armor, enchanted, which I got within seven days of creating the new world, and a creeper wouldn't even hurt my armor, making the idea of a creeper hurting me or actually posing as a threat insane. Endgame armor should not take three days to obtain. Near-endgame armor should not take a mere ten-fifteen minutes to obtain. Ravines make things even easier, and because there happens to be one attatched to every damn cave, it makes even diamonds easy. From a ravine, I could get three stacks of iron, more than I'd probably ever need throughout my gameplay experience, unless I wanted to build a REALLY big minecart system. I play on Hardcore mode, and I've gone two weeks already without dying. This is coming from the guy who doesn't even pay attention to mobs anymore. Mojang needs to cater to the killers out there, not just the builders. Minecraft is a game, and it needs to be able to have a reasonable amount of difficulty.
If you are signing this, you agree that:
- Armor needs to be nerfed, heavily.
- Mobs need to be improved, and give the game some challenge.
- Ores need to be harder to find.
--IF YOU ARE IN FAVOR OF A CHANGE LIKE THIS-- 1. Please sign the petition, linked to at the top and bottom of this post.
2. Please tweet this petition to @notch and @jeb_, along with the tag #FixMinecraft.
3. Tell your friends about this petition, and tell them to sign it. If our voice gets loud enough, we WILL be heard.
I agree with most of this, monster fighting is too easy with armor, leather makes me feel invincible already, because I don't get hurt much(and I quickly regenerate via hunger). Mobs are dumb and always have been, it'd be nice if they were harder and not as easy as zombies, which I punch to death regularly. Iron and gold need to be nerfed, diamond I'm not sure about, because I don't exactly know how rare it is, I seem to never get any when I really nee it but tons when I don't care..I totally agree with ravines, but not caves. Except that caves being everywhere ruins the point of strip mining, if that's what you mean.
Personally, I'm troubled by how eager people are to tie their specific desires into an overall "difficulty" setting. But I'm all for greater choice here.
The thing is... well, I play on Hard, because to play on anything less than Hard sounds like admitting that the game is tougher than I am. It's a psychological thing. I have never had "game skillz" and to find a game that I'm actually reasonably good at on the hardest difficulty is pleasing to me. So I don't play Hardcore, but I do play on nothing less than Hard.
Now, if you tie an increase in mining time to Hard, then you've pitted my pride against my pragmatism. Do I want to continue thinking I'm badass enough to play a game at the hardest mode? Then I give up the ability to do things at normal speed. Do I want to do things at normal speed? Then I give up the feel of being badass, as well as many other bits and bobs of difficulty that maybe I don't want to give up.
On the other hand, suppose that it was offered in a radio-button format, and clicking one of the difficulties changed all the radio buttons around, but you could customize it. (There's some potential problems with scoreboards, but since I never try for that, I'm going to ignore it.) So say I click "Hard" and it bumps all the radio buttons up to the Hard settings: monsters are tough to kill, do a lot of damage, move faster, spawn more frequently; armor's less effective; resources are less abundant; days go by faster so there's less time to harvest; whatever.
But then I have the freedom to put the tool-speed modifier to the custom setting of "no change" or maybe even "25% faster". And then I've got everything I need, and I play my game quite happily.
So that's where my vote lies.
Additional Difficulty Settings
I'm in favor of letting the player alter a few other settings through the Options Menu. Some of them (such as ore spawn rates, biome size, etc.) you mess with when creating a new world; others you can change whenever you like. I am for greater choice, greater customization, allowing for a wider range of player experiences.
Mob AI Settings
Consider having, say, four settings for non-monster mobs and four for monster mobs. Here's some possibilities:
Passive: Never attacks you, but runs when hit.
Skittish: Shies away from nearby hostile mobs and/or the player.
Friendly: Sticks close to the player, like those friendly little slimes.
Defensive: Will fight back if struck.
Territorial: If you get close to its "territory" it attacks, but it only chases you so far.
Dumb: Walks into lava, fire, etc. while trying to get to you.
Cautious: Doesn't walk into dangers, and hides behind corners a bit to avoid damage.
Sneaky: Much better pathing around obstacles, and some hiding/ambush skills.
Terminator: Once it catches your scent, it will follow you to the ends of the earth. Won't stop until dead, or if you switch worlds (to the Nether etc.).
Haunting: After you die, it respawns close to your spawn point, so even death can't save you from it.
Now imagine being able to set that the Zombies are Dumb, the Skellies Cautious, the Creepers Sneaky. Or imagine total freedom: Passive Spiders, Defensive Creepers, Cautious Pigs, Terminator Chickens. A world of Sneaky Space Cows.
It could certainly liven up custom maps.
Oh, and, like with Mo' Creatures, you should be able to set individual animal spawn rates. Arachnophobes should not have to play on Peaceful just to enjoy the game; neither should young kids be forced to tackle Creepers just to be able to kill a few Zombies. And you should be able to turn off passive mobs so their noises don't interfere with your filming a Let's Play.
Additional Meters to Keep Track Of
While I don't want this game to become The Sims, I would like to see more than just Hunger - so long as the meters are completely optional. For one, I'd like to see Thirst, and to see water split into Freshwater and Saltwater.
For two, Temperature, where exposure to extremes can give you status ailments. Hypothermia makes everything slow down (movement, mining speed), and drains your Hunger meter faster. Heatstroke makes it difficult to move in a straight line, maybe difficult to see straight, and it drains your Thirst meter faster.
I could also see a Sleep meter, such that you'd have to take your chances even if you didn't have a bed - maybe you could stay up for three days straight. Perhaps reinforced with a status ailment of Sleep Deprivation, though I'm not sure on effects.
So consider the benefit to role-players: You set the Options Menu to give you all the meters, and in the new world you spawn on a frozen tundra biome. Now the clock is ticking - stay out here too long without a heat source and you'll get a status ailment that'll really make it tough to make headway, and also means you have to find food a lot faster than normal.
Other Stuff
Others have requested greater control over world spawns and biome/chunk spawns. I agree. Heck, I should be free to make a version of Waterworld if I like (99% Ocean, 1% Islands, and don't mind dropping me off in the sea first thing). Or a world that's largely swamps, or deserts, or forests.
One that fluctuates in temperature, or one that's pretty level (all temperate, or all tropical, all frozen, whatever). Maybe one that has temperature "bands" going in one direction, so that e.g. as you go north, you end up hitting a lot of hots, then a lot of colds, then a lot of hots again, so a small section of an infinite world acts a lot like a section of a finite world with an equator and polar sections.
I should be able to mess with these custom settings easily when spawning a new world, and maybe even, later, alter how the game generates new chunks for an old world.
But... yeah. Give the player greater choice. Let them decide what "difficulty" means for themselves. If it means 200% more monsters than normal, fine - hope your computer can handle it. Maybe fewer monsters, but they hit harder, and armor doesn't help as much. Maybe all the mobs, including normally passive ones, are trying to kill you. Or maybe the monster spawns are entirely Creepers, and they all blow up like the Charged Creeper and also set things on fire.
Or maybe "difficulty" for you means a greater focus on noncombat concerns, such as water, food, and shelter. Maybe there's fewer resources, maybe even no coal (a world with no plants and animals?). Maybe you can't punch trees down, but have to start with improvised flint tools, meaning your first day is spent hunting around for a gravel patch. That's my preferred difficulty. If you want to add a longer mining time on top of that, then great, add it to the options.
And everybody's happy - except the stop-having-fun guys, who are saying we're all playing the game wrong to begin with.
What Kilyle offered up as a way to add more difficulty to the game makes a lot of sense to me. If this were done, it'd allow those people who play at an 'advenced' level to have fun again. SMP would probably need a way to set it in stone for itself and have players sync to their rates to avoid unbalanced play. The ravines and caves, have they forced you to mine what is there for any reason? If it's just from casual mining and it's in the way, try making some elaborate structure to use it up.
This again, seems like the best way to please all people, but It shouldn't be forced upon those working at Mojang just yet. Modders should take the reins on this first and get it to just work as if it were the game so adding other mods doesn't become problematic. As time goes on, the idea would be picked up by Jeb + others and integrated into the game itself to alleviate modding of the game.
If you are signing this, you agree that:
- Armor needs to be nerfed, heavily.
- Mobs need to be improved, and give the game some challenge.
- Ores need to be harder to find.
Armor needs to be nerfed and said change will make mobs harder to fight.
I'm also all for making Hard and Hardcore actually hard. Easy should be easy and Normal should be the middle ground.
Ores need to stay the same or need to be more common. The problems lie within the imba Iron armor and Diamond armor. In fact, I think, personally, that Diamond Ore should be slightly more common once the armor gets nerfed. If I recall correctly, the terrain generator changes between 1.73 and 1.8 reduced the amount of Diamond found per chunk. I also think Lapis should be more common and spread out throughout the levels of a world. In other words, more common ore.
I also support unnerfing Swords. I mean, seriously, you can't even one-shot passive mobs anymore with Diamond ones. Jeez.

I would very much like to see a video of someone getting a full set of iron armor in hardcore mode at the beginning of the generation of new map in 15 minutes. Uncut of course :biggrin.gif:
1. Hardcore Mode
2. Full suit of Iron Armor in 15 minutes or less.
Quick Fact: It takes approximately 5 minutes to smelt 24 iron ingots.
BEGIN.
ACCEPTED good sir.
One thing, though, that I'd like to mention is the OP made a comment that this wasn't a whining thread. However, it does border a wee bit on the complaining side. Now, if you had offered some solid comparisons, actual in game proof, or ways to improve the game play instead of saying 'THIS SUCKS FOR ADVENTURERS' then it would see more like you are offering ideas. With most people content with the new changes, you may have a hard time proving your case. To say you can get a full set of iron armor in 15 minutes is something that would be quite a challenge.
Given this criteria:
Start new world
Gather supplies to mine (ie pick axes, wood sticks, torches, coal or charcoal)
Gather food so you wont starve to death and die (Dont forget to cook!)
Find a cave with 24 pieces of iron
Smelt all this iron
I do not think this is possible in 15 minutes. Unless this was an exaggeration :ohmy.gif:! Or unless you meant 'I have a house made. I have all my supplies ready. I'm going to gather iron to make armor'. Then yes, probably more likely.
In any case, it sounds more like you need to try some survival type maps or challenge maps or mods that increase the mob intensity.
And to those saying brewing/enchantment isn't crafting? Think again. To create potions is a craft. To smelt ores is a craft. To cook is a craft. Sure you may not like it, but even getting an enchantment table or getting the blaze rods for a brewing stand is a challenge. Minecraft does have it's challenges. Maybe not to you because you've played it so much, but many do not play hours and hours a day. A trip to the nether can be very intense with only iron armor and a couple arrows :wink.gif:
I believe the idea of improving mob AI would DEFINITELY be good for those hungering for a challenge. Why not create a mob trap that will have tons of enemies surrounding you and see if you can survive the night WITHOUT armor (a CHALLENGE good sir!). You have to be creative! I want more shapes for blocks. Mojang hasn't made this so I can either wait, offer ideas for them, or download mods!

It says "fix" because these are broken mechanics. PvP simply doesn't work anymore when both users cannot take damage.
Also, 25 signatures!

Ore harder to find? NO WAY!
Oh come on man, you must be joking, iron is entirely too easy to find.

Funny considering they increased the damage the do after 1.8. Hmmmm.
Iron and Diamond allow you literally hug Creepers.
They do more damage but, unless they did 50 hearts of damage in one go, they will never kill you with Diamond Armor. Nothing will.
Also to the above, yes, it was an exaggeration. It still doesn't take forever to get Iron Armor.
