Iron being common is a big issue. If it is too uncommon, that mine cart rails become insanely time consuming.
BUT...Having a lot of iron makes iron tools and weapons too easy to use.
There should be, like I have said many a time, the requirement to FORGE Iron tools and armor. It will take you time to make iron tools and armor. We also need to add chainmaile into the mix, cause right now we basically have 2 sets of armor. Diamond and Iron.
Chain-maile - Weaker, but cheaper and faster to make.
Iron Armor - Stronger, but takes a while to forge each part
Here is a chart I made for a previous request. It puts a balance to all the armor. Different speeds with armor weight make for better PVP choices, do you want to be fast and weak, or slow and strong? Or perhaps your own mix? This is much better instead of just popping on iron armor and never giving it a second thought.
Armor | Max Player Speed | Armor Durability (Based on chest-plate)
Leather | 95% | 82
Gold | 60% | 114.8
Chainmail | 85% | 166.46
Iron Plate | 70% | 249.69
Diamond | 80% | 536.8335
If you just want stuff to go back to 1.7, why not just use MCnostalgia? Don't make a petition because many people (Including myself) like the way Minecraft is now and the direction it's going in. People need to get their head out of the past and understand that games (especially Minecraft, which is always trying to improve) DO update and make themselves better.
No...everything you said just made me shake my head. You like the game being unbalanced? Please explain to me why?
HOW ABOUT...we just use my idea of adding MORE difficulty levels. So you can play where you want, and myself and others can play at a harder level.
Of course this is after re re-balance the game a little

No, we want things to be balanced and not to be godmode. Please actually read through the thread instead of the TL;DR. We shouldn't have to downgrade to have a decently playable and balanced version of Minecraft. 1.0.0 was a great update, but it has some major flaws that need to be taken care of.
If you just want stuff to go back to 1.7
Where did I ever say that? I want the armor buff to be taken down a little, like to 1.7.3 level. One feature. Not fifty.
Don't get a petition going...
You have no right to say who or who can't start a petition. If people agree with my statement, then it will be signed. If it is signed, then it will be heard. It's honestly that simple.
people such as I like the direction it's going in.
As do I. The roleplay elements mixed in with the sandbox make it a bit more interesting. The Enderdragon is something we've needed for a while. Hunger is another threat to notice while mining, and can bring up the games intensity if forgotten about. It's a great update. Just has a few (major) flaws.

Notch wants the Minecraft community to contribute to updates. If he didn't, he would never of been so open about such things. Ideas ARE taken, and the community has the right to suggest features, especially because Mojang actually uses said suggestions.
That is all. Please at least read the first sentence of a thread before commenting on it.

But there's not really any role-play. Steve never changes. Steve in enchanted diamond armor swinging an enchanted diamond sword while buffed with a dozen potions is still the same Steve that popped into existence with the world.
It even says in the OP that it is not a whining thread ...
You're wrong. This is a whining thread. O.M.G. I've apparently just made this a whining thread. See, it even says it is in this post I made, thus it must be true.
Notch wants the Minecraft community to contribute to updates. If he didn't, he would never of been so open about such things. Ideas ARE taken, and the community has the right to suggest features, especially because Mojang actually uses said suggestions.
And God help us because of that, because Notch is perhaps one of the single worst people in the world at implementing ideas. I'll give him credit that he's got great vision, but the product that results from his attempts at manifesting ideas is dog poop. Dog poop that is frequently still partially hanging on the dog. Who's swimming in the river, two counties over.
I also think, that the game should work on Mining and Crafting instead of Potions and Enchantments. If you look at it, there is absolutely no point in going underground except to get enough iron and diamond for armor and tools. There needs to be reasons to mine. How about taking enchanting out and adding special ores that we can craft on our weapons to make them stronger or to get a bonus?
For instance, implement a gem like a flaming ruby, which gives our weapons the fire aspect. Would show that Mining is still an important aspect. Make stuff like fossils, which could be sold to NPC's for money, which could be used for something else.
Keep potions, but make some materials be found only in underground caves in the Nether.
Basically, make mining be a more rewarding experience that will upgrade your weapons and gear.
Which brings me to another point. Loot.
Loot is not really that great at the moment IMO. For dungeons, it's fine. They're small challenges that can be overcome easily. However, I've seen some stronghold loot, and was disappointed when I saw things like books and gold bars in the chests. I suggest that powerful, upgraded tools, weapons, and armors replace stronghold and nether fort loot.
Strongholds could also be made better by adding spawners in hard-to-see locations. You have to scout around and mine your way to see them, while holding off the mobs coming at you.
Anyways, sorry for going off topic there. I just don't know where else to post this. If I make a thread about it, I'll be called a whiner.
Agree x6000000000000000
Potions are absolutely game ruining at the moment. I'm sick of enchantments. What happened to MINE----CRAFT?
HOWEVER, this thread is useful if you want to do the sensible thing and take these suggestions and make a mod out of them.
I was under the impression game-breaking errors should be fixed in the game itself. I understand if you're a peaceful player, but PvE/PvP is severely broken and unbalanced now.
And God help us because of that, because Notch is perhaps one of the single worst people in the world at implementing ideas.
He's simply disorganized. This has nothing to do about him listening to the community.
But there's not really any role-play. Steve never changes. Steve in enchanted diamond armor swinging an enchanted diamond sword while buffed with a dozen potions is still the same Steve that popped into existence with the world.

Well after reading this forum for a good 10 - 20 minutes , I've come to realise how alot of people don't see how much Notch works. @ Everybody and above , I will not say who are correct and who is wrong because I have no right to judge nor choose. But I will remind everyone that Notch has backed down from Leader of Minecraft Development , and yes he did choose to implant the Enchanting & Potions , but it's his game. If you don't like it go play some Call of Duty or Modern Warfare , You have no right to tell him what to do. Now Jeb has taken over , do you want him to think that he's not doing the right thing and decide to move onto developing another game because this one has given him to much stress?
So what if the Ores/Caves & Ravines are easy to find? Just like a person who posted above in the forums said that there should be a monthly fee. Would you rather be paying every month to play online just to have PvE/PvP harder? If you want the ore rarity , armour , mob combat to be harder why don't you just request for a mod? Wouldn't that make it all simple for us? Jeb wouldn't have to work his butt off to fulfil another request , and the people who still enjoy Minecraft the way it is will be happy , while you get your more complicated version of the game with all the things you want. And you can say that Notch lack/s/ed ideas but honestly he didn't. He really cared about what the audience of the actual game wanted and he went in that direction. He could've ignored all your request and turned MineCraft into some kind of Mine to the centre of the void and complete the game and then make a new world.
Then again this is just my opinion , you may choose to do what you want to do.

I remember back in 1.7.3 when a skeleton or two, plus a zombie, could easily turn Minecraft into a game of 'I'm ****ed,' even if I had full diamond armor. Most of the other things need to be nerfed a bit as well, such as iron. Iron is incredibly easy to find, I can walk into any surface cave and come out with like a stack or three. I remember when iron was precious, and at best you could find a stack in a very large cave system.
Diamonds, however, are rare enough as is. It's just that the armor should be heavily nerfed.
Caves becoming rarer is another thing I'm not for here, though. Sure, caves are plentiful now, but if they were reduced, it'd remove the exploration aspect of Minecraft. The underground world is an interesting place, just begging for adventure. I just think that ravines shouldn't be so damn deep, or if they stayed the same, should be a hell of a lot more rare. (Like 1 in every 50 or so chunks.)

Caves are excellent. Fun to explore yes, and you get A LOT of ore from them. However, ravines and caves have been upped in spawnrate a bit. It's hard to dig down now without falling into a cave of some sort.

I'm in favor of everything except cave rarity. I think more caves makes for more variety and neater worlds. It gets dull chipping through solid chunks of pure block from time to time.
If you are signing this, you agree that:
- Armor needs to be nerfed, heavily.
- Mobs need to be improved, and give the game some challenge.
- Ores need to be harder to find.
- Caves need to be far more rare.
-Armor does need to be nerfed.
-Mobs are fairly difficult on smp, not on ssp. The lag can create huge problems between these two gameplays because the difference is so durastic. Another thing to add to that, you don't usually keep diamond armor long in smp because of competition.
-Ores are okay the way they are considering one needs to make a railway 1km long to a stronghold with their stacks of iron or needs to get a new set of daimond armor to fight the other clan.
-Caves and ravines seem a little more rare in the newest update, or is it just me?
This isn't game-breaking, as you seem to say. Game-breaking glitches are glitches that Stopthe game working at all! (E.g. Frozen Loading screen, Frequent crashes, etc. etc.)
So don't claim this is game breaking when this is really just a whining thread
Yes, armour as it is at the moment is too easy. But what most people sound like they want is the old minecraft, where to be honest, I thought fighting was a bit cheap.
I go mining. I collect a bunch of valuable stuff. I kill a few lone mobs. Then I come into a room with a few zombies and a skeleton. Even decked out in my neat-o armour, without a doubt, 90% of the time, you have lost all of the nice things you just spent an hour or so mining, and all of the neat-o equipment you would've brought down with you, unless you weren't lost, and less than 5 minutes from your spawn. Throw in a creeper you weren't aware of and you're screwed.
I don't call that fun. I call that being ripped off by a swarm of over powered mobs.
Enemies need to be smarter, you need to feel as though they have earned watching you drop all those goodies. At least make skeletons go left, for a change.
They need a middle ground. And I think that is:
1. Nerf Diamond and Iron armour.
2. Give enemies better AI. - Which I believe they are working on, soon.
3. Possibly tone down iron a bit.
And, unlike what happened last time, do not rage at Mojang because there wasn't an update out quick enough, forcing them to output some rubbish final product because they were rushed by the community.

Have you even read the thread?
Please, grab some diamond armor and sit in a pool of lava. Tell me how long you last.
In 1.7.3, it was about 10-15 seconds if lucky.
You will last a very long time... however... your hunger will drop very fast on EASY, and so will your armor's HP.
Also,if you step out.... you are dead.
But what about iron?
You die in less that 9 seconds.
Diamond nor iron is overpowered.
(Thanks TMI for the armor.)
And in servers.... diamond armor is crap if you know what you are doing.
