hi everyone i am really happy and confused why did notch skip minecraft 1.9 and go to 1.0.0? frankly i think he did it because millions of players already got the pre-release so if you would like to talk i have a 3ds and i am dieing to get some friends that talk about minecraft and have a clue about how good the game is!
God damn.
GOD DAMN DAT STUPIDITY.
I presume that in your head he never released anything in the '1.9 update' and just made a 1.0 update.
>_<
No. How release numbering works, is that when you exit Alpha/Beta the version number rolls back to 1.0
There was going to be a 1.9 update, but they prolonged it so long they had no choice but to simply do what they did.
Notch made it clear that the "release" would just be an arbitrary point in time corresponding to the Minecraft convention, and that continued development of Minecraft will remain relatively unchanged.
Since Minecraft development has been handed over to Jeb, he might have a slightly different development/release style, but he is still developing it and has already made hints about when the next official release will be.
Yes, after 3 years of development, his company needs more, he better works on scrolls.
What the release complete?
No, but notch shouldnt think as an indie , he needs to think as the leader of his company, im glad he made jens work on minecraft while he does what he needs to do, make other games.
I personally hate how people call him lazy/stupid or that he did the wrong thing when leaving the development of minecraft, he is not an indie developer anymore, he has to think for his company not for himself, his company needs more games or else mojang will die pretty quickly, im glad that they have cobalt now ( i know mojang didnt made cobalt ), and scrolls is coming in 2012 i guess.
Why do people think that 1.0.0 was the final release? Where do you guys get your information? Clearly not from this forum. Or the Wiki. Or from the Twitters of Notch, Jeb, or any of the other Mojang team.
Well, then again, you might be getting this from this forum. We still have people who don't know what slimes are, and think that NPCs and swamp biomes are complete. :/

I think he's a complete moron for releasing the game. Its filled with bugs, many long promised features haven't been implemented, and its filled with bugs. AARGH! Not to mention the horrible new terrain generator...
I only run into minor bugs here and there, they mostly focused on the ssp bugs and that's all I care about.
They released it as a 1.0 version so people would shut up about it still being in beta but from what most of you are saying they should have kept it in the beta so people would ***** that it's still in beta.
It ain't finished, that's for sure. Released as a full build, yes, but not finished.
This. If he meant released then, meh. Call it 1.0.0, call it pre-relase 1.9.10.11.12, call it release "Minecon", doesn't matter it's just a name. Point is, they're still working on it, so it's not a big deal.
The release of Minecraft was so incomplete and buggy...
So are most game releases nowadays. There are not many ways developers can find the flaws without an community pointing them out. Although, Minecraft was in beta and alpha for a long time WITH a community, so a lot of game breaking bugs are gone.
I think it was better in a business sense. He now has an excuse to raise the price of the game and at the same time the game will receive attention as a "finished" product and thus sales will increase as well. But really if you look at it from a newcomers perspective, it seems more like a scam.
Minecraft could have been called a full game ages ago, before they started adding all these things that they couldn't finish in time. Now when people who have heard little of Minecraft get the game and see the villagers for the first time they will be greatly disappointed. I'm also certain they wont have the best time adjusting to the Wiki centered storyline, because now all the greatest elements of the game are so obscure that you'll need the wiki to figuring things out. Do you really like it when you have to be forced to look something up just to proceed in the game?
Mojang hasn't done much for the people who are just starting the game for the first time. Because they took that "adventure" route, they now will have a much harder time trying to market all these "finished" game elements, because their newer players are being thrown into a mass of disconnected ideas, that don't compliment the simple concept that Minecraft used to be.
All Mojang has done is attempt to reward players who have been playing throughout beta. Think about it. The major features that were added solely to make Minecraft a "finished" product are unmarketable, because they don't match with the simplistic nature that keeps Minecrafters playing. It would be a bad PR move to try to sell Minecraft as something its not. They shouldn't have strived to make Minecraft a "finished" product, because it shouldn't ever be considered finished. If you call a game such as Minecraft finished, you are only sacrificing its potential to adapt and innovate for years of gamers to come.
Last notes: Notch did his duty as a developer to realize that he was no longer interested in the game he started. He was dragging the game down. I think he knew it. His Minecraft spark was fading and he did what was best for the game. I understand that Notch had to find a place where he could term Minecraft as fully released, because he wouldn't get credited if he jumped ship beforehand and Jeb was noted as lead developer in the credits. Full release was inevitable, but to call Minecraft finished by any means is an insult to the Minecraft community. Future Minecraft players will be expecting updates to the game just the same as us beta players expected it. Minecraft just shouldn't ever be a WYSIWYG game.
It should be treated just like any free MMORPG even though the game is not in that genre. The game is similar in that it regularly patches with new content. Once this officially stops then the craze is over. You killed the game for good. Minecraft loses its mainstream appeal, and the game is phased out as someone else makes a better version.Notch left the game to Jeb to continue the game, and as long as the game isn't "finished", and Jeb markets the game correctly it will continue to be profitable.

That... is the most reasonable explanation that i have ever heard for it.

*shrug*
So instead of getting one update we'd get one update cut in half? Sounds like a plan.
