Ahah, ye it was just an example I came up with in 3 minutes just to give a general idea about how a "tutorial" should be implemented.
There are flaws in that suggestion for sure, still the point was "show the player how to do something in indirect ways, instead of just telling them how to do certain things through a text message".
It's not necessarily "too hard", 'cause at the end of the day it's just about combining a limited amount of stuff to get other stuff, but it's not intuitive.
And having to rely on the wiki because you aren't able to figure it out by yourself is ... bad ?
Dumbing it down is a solution, not the best one for sure.
On the other hand, villagers would make for an excellent in-game tutorial for newbies.
Maybe in the world type selection they could have NPC Village[tutorial biome] or something.
So basically you're saying that if you have to look it up in the wiki, it's too hard and needs to be dumbed down?
As if anything could be dumber than requiring the player to look up a strategy guide every few minutes
It doesn't need to be dumbed down, Mojang needs to be smarted up

To clear this up I have looked on the wiki. And what I don't get is why making some potions require other potions. Also, it is very easy to mix up ingredients when making a potion. You could easily make the wrong potion.

Well, when I started I weeded out all the types that were essentially fodder and the three potions more complicated then the others are the fire resist, instant heal and instant damage. Those you just use crafting to make then use the ingredients in potion(nugget+melon, spider eye then add fermented spider eye[brown mushroom, sugar, spider eye], slime+blaze powder).
