I know some of you know this by now, but you CAN have the Beta 1.7.3 terrain in 1.0.0+! All you need is a cureent Minecraft Version Changer, or a Minecraft Version Changer that updates itself after every patch release, OR you can have a back-up Beta 1.7.3 .jar file to switch back and forth with the current Minecraft patch. What I did was when I made a map in Beta 1.7.3 earlier today, I put a single block of cobblestone on the very spot I spawned on to mark my original spawn point. I made a map in which I filled up every single pixel starting with on my spawn point from the middle to the very edges and in between. Once I had that map filled, which is more than 1,000 blocks from the spawn point in every direction, so I literally had I'll say at LEAST 10,000 blocks of Beta 1.7.3 terrain I'm guessing?
Anyways, While I was filling up the map, I didn't look up or anything so next time I go exploring, I don't know what's there like mountains because I didn't see where I was going, just looking straight down at the map while travelling to fill it up. Then I head back to my home which is near my original spawn point. Then I switched to 1.0.0 since these pre-releases for 1.0.1 really have nothing to offer for me so far. I wasn't underground at all when I was in Beta 1.7.3, so maybe there's a chance that there'll be undergound ravines here and there and if so, maybe a slight chance there'll be a stronghold, all below the Beta 1.7.3 terrain generation. Of course, I'll keep going on in Beta 1.7.3 to make another map with more Beta 1.7.3 terrain generation and still have all the 1.0.0 stuff. Of course, only in 1 direction I'll let 1.0.0 terrain generate so as to have plenty of ravines, a few Strongholds, a few NPC villages and if very lucky, a mushroom biome!
One more thing! If you dolike I did, you'll want to put the game on "Peaceful Mode" because it does take around a few Minecraft days and nights to fill it up, especially if you keep hitting roadblocks! :tongue.gif: There was a LOT more generation to record on a map than I thought. I spent around 45 minutes filling it up literally! And I'm sure a lot of you can do it in less that time too! :tongue.gif: Well, that's I have to say!
THANKS!!! Don't let the long amount of words to read scare you. :tongue.gif: That's why I broke it up into 3 paragraphs with each paragraph having a line of space underneath the other. :smile.gif:
Or they could just expand the tiny little Biomes in 1.7.3 and allow the greatness of having variation in today's game that way 1. servers can enjoy it and 2. When you reach the end of your generated zone it won't be a massive hideous transition.

The only problem with that is when you get to the edge of a Beta 1.7.3 teraain border and into the cureent Minecraft version that can get VERY ugly. For exapample: you reach the end of a piece of Beta 1.7.3 terrain border, you might see a 50+ stone block wall where half a 1.0.0 mountain biome is. That's the only flaw with letting a part of your Beta 1.7.3 map have 1.0.0 terrain generating, but maybe you could make something out of that like a small village on the side of that huge wall.
+1 to you, now those 40 thousand people that complain about the new terrain generiation will shut the f*ck up.
You deserve a +1 and many more, you have stopped an useless complaining on this forums, well done.
I really don't understand what you're saying. Without the complaining, Jeb won't know what to fix. Your opinion on the terrain is only your opinion and the majority usually wins. Not saying the generator will turn back into its glory from before, but at least people who want something to change will speak up. And you have to admit, the generator is way different now, whether you think it was for better or for worse. Big change will cause different reactions, and only Mojang knows if they are "right or wrong".. or they just won't do anything due to laziness.
To the OP. Good job on a temporary fix. Me and many others would like a combination of the release generator and the beta 1.7 generator, but if that doesn't happen, we have this. Thanks.

Haha! No problem! :smile.gif: This whole idea came to my mine earlier today, so I HAD to try it out! I haven't done much testing of it yet since I've been playing Minecraft long enough to not want to play it for awhile. But so far it's working out how I planned it to. :smile.gif:
Maybe I am not understanding something, but that sounds like it took an awful lot of work to do.
I would recommend using MinecraftLandGenerator and just specify the 1.7.3 server jar in its configuration. It will generate a 1.7.3 map to your size specifications. After it creates the map, you can then just start using it with Minecraft 1.0.0, or, if you want a smoother transition between the 1.7.3 and 1.0.0 sections, use mcedit to trim the edges of the 1.7.3 map so that the outer edge of the map is entirely water, and drop it into 1.0.0 with an ocean biome seed.

Well my personal opinion on what terrain generation was better my answer would be : i dont care , as far as i can use blocks to make my world look like i want i dont have any problem.
My point was, that there are 1000 threads about how much the new terrain " sucks ", now with this simple tutorial they will have a way to go back, now they dont have a reason to complain because now the OP has shown a way to go back to the old terrain and at the same time keeping the 1.0.0 additions.

It may seem like a lot of work, reading all that I've posted. That's because I usually put a little more detail then there needs to be sometimes. Saying: "Never judge a book by its cover." Just reading all that doesn't mean it's a lot of work, you have to TRY it to see whether or not it's a lot of work.

Maybe I am missing something, but this isn't a suitable way to make 1.0.0 work magically with 1.7.3 terrain. This is just a way to have a limited area of 1.7.3 terrain in a larger 1.0.0 map. It doesn't solve any of the terrain issues that people have been complaining about. One big complaint about post-1.8 terrain is that in many ways, it doesn't make exploration very interesting, since all of the terrain looks so much alike. This will not solve that issue at all, since once you walk outside of the 1.7.3 area, it will go back to the bland 1.0.0 terrain features. This will also not solve the biome mismatch of using a 1.7.3 area in a 1.0.0 map.

That's like saying Mojang should stop developing and everyone should get a mod or two for everything they don't like. Even though they wiped off the Beta sign, Jeb still has a lot of bug fixing and features to tweak. He is also working with other people to enhance Minecraft to its maximum. I'd like to see what they do (if they do anything, and they might) before I start making the game something it isn't.
Another thing about your answer... so you wouldn't care if every world was an infinite flat sheet with your inventory full of all the blocks in the game? I know that's not really what you're trying to say, but think about your replies before you actually reply. Now I know there are people who agree with everything Mojang does even if they aren't being very bias, but complaining will get things done and changes (even irrelevant to the terrain) need to be made.

Well, my point was/is people need to deal with it, it happened and the terrain was changed.
Not that everyone should get a mod to fix what they dont like, but if the terrian generator was changed, and took notch months to make, you people dont expect him to just erase all his work, that will be in the game forever and if they want to have the old terrain they miss they will have to use mods or something that makes them able to use old terrain generators.
And to your question, well that would be a little dissapointing, no cool stuff in the whole MC world... but if i have my stuff i suppose it would be enough to keep me playing some hours... but if it was just flat i suppose i will get bored after some days because of no real exploration.

You may want to try my method that I had suggested. It is fully automatic -- you don't have to walk around at all. You never have to even enter the 1.7.3 map. MinecraftLandGenerator just generates a section of map of whatever server jar file you specify and whatever map size you require. On my older Minecraft server system, I could probably generate a 2000x2000 map in maybe 20 minutes. Once it is done, you just start using it with 1.0.0.
If this is a mod then no thanks. My PC is slow enough with litle GB space in the harddrive thing. I had to delete WoW and a ton of small files to make Far Fancy settings playable. Mods will only take a little of what GB space I have left. And I'm not in position to get a new computer anytime soon I'm afraid. So far my method has been working for me. :smile.gif:
Unfortunately, the only caveat to this method is that biomes will change, often drastically, when using a world generated prior to 1.8 with the current terrain generator. Also, people will miss out on 1.8/1.9 exclusive generation features such as mineshafts, ravines, and strongholds.
I would do this myself, but a map generated in 1.7 or before would simply not look the same in 1.0.0. I want the old-fashioned terrain, but I would also like the green grass that comes with it as well.

MinecraftLandGenerator is not a mod. It is a stand-alone utility which simply starts and stops a Minecraft server jar. Since you wouldn't be running the Minecraft client while you are running MLG, and you will not have any client users connecting to the server, you shouldn't really have any memory issues, even on an old system.
