Once 1.0 came, all I could find were ocean biomes, except where you spawn. In my current single player map, there is 20 biomes of land near me other than ocean. There were no tundras so I set out to explore. 1000 blocks later I find an ocean and am like "oh snap, oceans are easy I'll just cross it and find some land on the other side." 10000, blocks later I am thinking to my self if this ocean even ends. I like oceans, but if they are too big, It is troubling to find new lands. I am still looking for a tundra mountain and and still lost in that ocean.
I dont like them because I went in a boat into the ocean once and I was going forward and ended up back at where i started.
Something tells me you probably turned around by accident and didn't notice. Minecraft worlds are not round. Or you were turning I guess, which is possible.
They are too large as they sit, empty.
However, add more than a mushroom biome (like shipwrecks, underwater dungeons, etc.) and the size isn't an issue any more.

Edit: nope I just got lucky x.x
I don't care about ocean size, I'm happy on my not-so-small as-yet-not-fully-explored continent. :smile.gif:
But when flying over oceans in creative I usually put a weight on the 'w' key as I go grab a snack :tongue.gif:
