i dont believe that anyone is in an ocean that they cant get out of in at MOST 5 minutes. you travel more than 1000 blocks a minute in a boat. people really need to find something else to qq about
Am I the only one who has noticed that the new oceans that generate seem to be obscenely large? I remember back when the world was mostly land, and if you came across a large body of water it was the coolest thing. Now I find the opposite to be true, and aside from where you spawn, the world seems to be mostly ocean. What are your thoughts on this? Personally, I'm not a fan.
Sample image from my server and this isn't even as bad as some that I've seen.
im no christopher colombus, but if i wanted to get out of an ocean i'd travel in a straight line. seems like after you spent several minutes traveling in circles you finally decided to go in one direction on that map. im guessing that arm on the map you're traveling took you about a minute? keep going and you'll find land. kids are so ADD these days.
Another thing, forgive the double-post, I had to run while typing my first one here:
I actually found a "Monster Generator" on the bottom of the ocean in the middle (well far away from any land, like 1/2 day's travel) Did a .png screenshot and used that F3 key to pinpoint it.
Didn't go in yet. Was waiting for that "Waterbreathing" potion but it seems no-go now... I dived down to see a closer look, losing 3 hearts on the way up. Under an open hole so a stream of water (without instantly filling it, love Minecraft physics!) and lighted within so either (more likely) part of an abandoned mineshaft or next to Lava without the water touching it. Didn't hear moans or clicks or shrieks, but had the cobblestone parts, couldn't see the generator yet.
No, it wasn't "Stone Bricks" but cobblestones. Still have NOT found a "Stronghold"... My last world had obscene amounts of "Abandoned mineshafts" (loved that, only felled two trees but had mountains of wood! Made mmmabye 10 rails and found thousands of rail blocks!) and lots of ravines. But even with a circular search from origin point based on the Wiki stuff, NO strongholds... I.E. No Bars, no stone bricks, no bookshelves...

First off, I don't appreciate the attitude. If you have a point to make thats fine, but being an asshat won't help your argument. Secondly, you are looking at a reverted version of the map. I had flown for about 5 minutes faster than any boat will go, and found nothing but water, with a few incredibly small islands around. I after deleted that version off the world, seeing as how there was no reason to have all chunks there.
Also to whoever said that oceans are realistic, I agree. But having nothing but ocean all around is not fun. It puts a serious limit on how much you can build in an area. Sure there are 3 other compass directions, but when they are all endless ocean as well it gets irritating.
So we should make diamonds the weakest now? Because diamonds being hard is very realistic.
Besides you took what I said out of context, your missing the whole point of this argument, Just because "X" is like "X" in real life, Does not mean it should be in a game.

The last 2 oceans I crossed were 24km wide. It took an hour or so to find a new continent. I think it does make the new place you reach more valuable but.. 24km? Like really? Why aren't oceans just 6-11km?
Then I started a world with the intentions of mapping out an entire continent, and making a nation out of it.
The continent has become so large that CartographG doesn't want to map it half the time, and Windows Picture Viewer won't open the latest few map updates.
By the by, what mapping program did you use for that pic, OP?
These massive oceans filled with nothing must be filled with fish, crabs, sharks, and coral! Also sea sponges (a legitimate method of finding sponges? I approve!!! Of course though, dry sponges need to be changed so they actually hold back water...)

I don't mind them to much. *BUT (Yes there is of course a BUT in the situation)
They are so empty, dull, annoying etc......
If at least they added more underwater content then I would not care.

Personally, I like that the oceans are huge. Oceans are supposed to be huge, right?
The minecraft world doesn't have to be realistic, I mean look at the minecraft storyline. Wake up alone somewhere, punch trees for wood, and then fight a dragon boss surrounded by black dwarfs. Minecraft is supposed to be fun, not realistic.
Small oceans are good, like for underwater based, but they shouldn't be 2/3 of all terrain like earth
Once, I went to the nether. I lost my portal. I made another one, and I spawned in a giant ocean. I actually gave up after a while and decided to save my inventory, and die so I'd respawn at my bed.

I'm not sure where you got this from, but thanks for trying.
