I love staying on islands too but my problem is after I'm in the middle of the ocean I realize I didn't bring any wool to make beds so I had to find actual land. :tongue.gif:

We always camp out at spawn for a bit first; collect some iron, diamonds, food, make a few beds, etc.
I once spawned on a 100x100 island in the middle of what felt like 5 ocean biomes next to each other. I switched to creative after a few days of paddling around in my boat just to see if I could find land, but nope. So, I took it like a game-made survival island, which was fun for a few days, but without caves or anything to explore, it got very old fast. I came to survive, explore and eventually thrive, not to sit on an island all day. That map solidified my hate for them. At least in that size anyway, heh.
I wouldn't mind them if there was more to do with/in them, like more kinds of sea creatures or some reason to actually go into them and explore. Maybe have NPC villages spawn at the bottom of them, ruins of a town flooded by a great wave. Or shipwrecks with treasure hidden in them. If there were interesting sea life or hidden treasures at the bottom of the ocean, there's no way to get them because you'd drown trying though. There should be some sort of diving gear like in Terraria that allows you to breathe underwater longer.
TL;DL
Yeah, I agree. I wish there were a bit smaller and more manageable, with some cool stuff in them to make them more explorable.
Sure you can keep changing your world until you have a nice spawn, but it just seems they are smaller than they used to be. Perhaps I'm just an "old timer" complaining about change.

Maybe it's that oceans are too big or maybe it's that they're to common... But what if the real thing we need is bigger and faster boats? :wink.gif:
Yeah, I'll make a huge boat, so when I go exploring I'll accidentaly construct a frigate in a lake instead of an ocean and facepalm to death. Bodies of water are usually unpredictable, you never know if they're closed off or supermassive.

That's your problem :wink.gif:
I would never build any super-huge boat unless i was sure it was an ocean(i explored in a small boat)

That's exactly why 'bigger and faster' ships would be useless, because the only purpose they would serve is looks considering you would scout with small boat first. I guess we could add them just to dork around.

Or if you know where your going it can help to get you there quicker.
I like it, but it's a bit boring, what they need to add is a lot more ocean scenery.

What happened, deep in the hidden eras before history began, that could effect the human race so evenly as to give the entire race a deep, lasting fear of pale beings with dark, sunken eyes, razor sharp teeth, and elongated faces?
I'd be perfectly fine with it and starting out in an island-hopping area if Minecraft had ships. It'd be a great object to add, maybe you'd have to craft a few separate objects that you'd then craft together, they could be faster and bigger than boats, nearly indestructible and carry cargo (maybe even room for a couple of animals.) This is the thing I want most right now.
In my 1.8 thing I was thrilled when I found an ocean large enough it'd take a day to get through, and built a home in an island in the center... Including digging a zig-zag staircase and exploring the "Mountains" beneath.
Served me well in this thing... The oceans are excessive, I even re-did the world since I started again 1.9/1.00 thing. Found a bit of land I'm exploring but made a base on an island for protection. Did another zig zag to the bottom. Found a bunch of caves I first missed, but then after 10 days FINALLY my first "Abandoned mineshaft" at 30 blocks above bedrock..
I'll say one cool thing, though. I can "Get Lost" in caverns beneath my island. When I'm full of goodies, instead of trying to find the way out and meeting the "Murphy's Law Skeleton Crew" I just dig or find a stream and swim UP. I break through about 50 blocks under the ocean surface, mmmaybe getting one or two ouchies on the way up. Then I'm in the middle of the ocean and can see my island base and swim to it, no coming up at night on land and the "Night Shift" waiting
I wish there was one indefinitely large ocean so as to provide room for continents (basically gigantic masses of land dotting the ocean) with some islands in between.

Things to explore underwater? Good idea!
Let your anger be as a monkey in a piñata... hiding amongst the candy... hoping the kids don't break through with the stick!
We are what we eat and we are who we meet. These are not mutually exclusive.

Hey I've been here since very early alpha. Don't judge me cause I'm new to the forums.

Indeed, I started playing the game and didn't join the forums until much later.
In fact, I don't think I've joined any gaming forum without playing the game for a while first.
