To the people who voted that armor is fine in the pole: Can you please share your opinion? I'd really like to see a counter-argument here. How is armor balanced or fair, specifically on hard mode?
Diamond armour is relatively hard to get.
Enchanted diamond armour is really hard to get.
Enchanted diamond armour with the correct enchantments is really, really hard to get.

Iron armor is not hard to get. Hard mode is mind-numbingly easy even in full iron.

Diamond is not hard to get, it's 'slow' to get. Maybe 4 hours or so, not too difficult.
Also considering these armors are almost impenetrable w/o enchants, It's a stupid system.
By armors I mean iron/diamond.

I consider four hours of my time quite valuable.
Let's put it this way. If there were a potion which cost 24 diamonds and made you immune to lava for 60 seconds or immune to mobs for five minutes, would you use it?
Why do you play this game? Mining and crafting are kind of the name of the game, here. Spending four hours exploring cave systems, mining, and crafting is a waste of your time in a game called "Minecraft"? And it's not like diamond armor is the only reward for that time spent gathering resources.

Not really an equivalent since most people don't have a dire need to swim in lava or run around hugging creepers. For most players a full suit of diamond armor would last a lot longer.
Reguardless. The armor system is TOO POWERFUL. And completely imbalanced.
Realistically, we only have TWO SETS OF ARMOR.
Iron and Diamond. Gold is just for looks, and leather has been made useless because iron armor is so easy to get.
What we have right now
Armor, and time it takes.
Leather, you must make a farm which typically takes longer than getting iron
Iron, kinda easy to find.
Diamond, takes long as bawls to find and get which is pretty much it's balance.
What we need
Leather, you must make a farm
Iron, you must gather it and FORGE it in a forge, which consumes time.

Bam. Done, this also gives the cauldron a use, for dropping hot iron pieces into to cool them

yea, this is quite a big problem. my nephew who is 7 always dies pre-1.0 WITH iron armor (he loves armor) and now he just doesnt die (saves me trouble though)
It doesn't matter how long it takes to get, they should be in reasonable defense tiers, not:
Leather: pretty good
Iron: ridiculous (can get quicker then leather) Diamond: ludicrous (2-3 hrs and invincibility will set me free)
I lol'd at this. I'm afraid that what you said is basically true. Even standard Iron Armor is hopelessly overpowered, and it seriously detracts from the difficulty of the game.
Actually, I would like to check both options in the poll.
Obviously, the armor could be reduced a few notches without breaking the game. However, I'm a really big fan of having powerful features that doesn't require you to turn Minecraft into your second job to obtain them. A really refreshing change from the typical pathological MMO-grind style of game play.
Having that said, how about the following: Current iron armor damage mitigation is moved to diamond armor, and iron armor is scaled back accordingly.
I used to be a huge fan of leather, back when animals just respawned willy-nilly.
Iron was harder to come by, and I enjoyed the matte look of leather armor.
I would've really liked to have seen it come back into usefulness, but it takes ages to collect 24 leather from a moomoo farm.

Diamond armor became creative mode
