I just don't like how the Aether almost replaces the overworld. You have to start over. Your resources from the overworld are rendered useless AND vice versa. There shouldn't be a new realm that is like an entire game.
What i do like is how the End and the Nether rely on resources from the overworld to overtake. Not completely starting over like it's a different game because you made a gate out of glowstone and water.
I prefer exploring over any other pastime in Minecraft. Just going around, seeing new lands, and perhaps plopping down a house or something to show myself where I've been. The Aether game me this, whereas The End didn't. So obviously I preferred The Aether.

Sigh... I prefer the End only because it felt "almost" complete and fits it's atmosphere without deviating too much from Minecraft. The Aether mod has too much of quirky and so-real feel for Minecraft style, it almost like a floating "Wonderland". That and the fact is nothing like what I suspected; goofy bosses, annoying exploration, and the fact it makes vanilla tools absolutely crap. Aether tries to become a whole new game in but adds up as being overly difficult with it's sky layout and mobs, I would rather just start a new world.
I'm interested to how Jeb pulls off the Skylands, hopefully he doesn't decide to make it just a clone of Aether mod.
The question is simple. I want to know which one is more popular.
If you don't know what these things are. The End is the place where you fight the Enderdragon. It has this kind of spongy like stone and has endermen and obsidian pillars strewn about the landscape.
The Aether/skylands was a series of huge floating masses of land. The Aether mod allowed you to go there and fight boss battles in randomly generating dungeons, as well as flying on pigs and moas, as well as an assortment of new blocks. You should check it out if you have a copy of 1.7.3 lying around to see it for yourself.
The Aether is perfect as it stands: a stand-alone mod that replaces the overworld with an exciting new dimension for you to explore.
The End is near-perfect as it stands: A small boss arena never meant to be a full dimension, that doesn't introduce anything overly complicated and doesn't replace the overworld. The boss could use some work, but eh, it's alright.
In all honesty, both should stay where they are. If people want the Aether, they can download it, while The End stays as a boss arena.

I respect that people like and enjoy the Aether. But I also prefer the End instead; if I wanted a new and exciting place to live I'd get creative with where I set up my base, like at the bottom of an ocean or something.
Everyone has their preferences; one isn't exactly better than the other.
The end,as it is a boss fight area. What did you expect?"Oh its a boss area,i can come and go as i please!I should have *rambles on*"
No,its a area for a fight. And why are we comparing this exacly?
end = made in about 1 week
the aether = made in about 4 month
and don't say that"Notch could have thought of this earlier" as he was not able to come up with something liek that back then.
It is like saying: which is better, the Minecraft boss battle with a dragon, or Skyrim?
My god the Aether was boring.
MY GOD.
It was so over-hyped . . . and then it was butt-ugly, there was no space to do anything, the mobs were blatant rehashes of either the mod teams other mobs or just rehashes of the Vanilla mobs, it was incompatible with EVERYTHING and it took about four other difficult to install [More so than normal] mods to make it work.
I would have preferred something similiar to, but not exactly like, the Aether. The Nether is very similiar to Hell, so I feel that a dimension similiar to Heaven is needed very much. The only things I dislike about the Aether is its complexity -- compare it to the Nether, nay, the whole game of Minecraft, and the Aether really puts everything to shame. We just need a dimension with golden grass and foliage and trees, a block that is basically the opposite of soul sand, (speeds up movement) floating islands, some friendly MOBs on the islands, and all of the enemy MOBs in dungeons/temples/etc. The Aether is akin to paradise, so the only enemies should be encountered within "prohibited" areas.
gotta love this thread, now i want to play the aether mod and defeat the enderdragon. they're both cool so i can't pick one. the purpose of the aether, and every other mod, is to add new stuff to the game, while the purpose of the end is to use what you've got to win, so they're kind off opposites, i think both off them fits well in minecraft.

Your opinion is so biased you almost caused me to puke right in front of my laptop.
Aether is given way too much credit. Not that good of a mod.
The Aether was updated for 1.0.0 not long ago.

NOT. WORTH. THE. HASSLE.
But I'd say it's more of a boss room, so I want both TBH...
