I'm not creating this thread to brag, but I'd just like to note that I was rather disappointed with Hardcore mode myself. Running through the game the first time start to finish via Hardcore mode (have not played since 1.4), I've yet to die, and after creating Iron Armor and a Diamond Sword I've never come anywhere remotely close to dying. I've gathered the blaze rods I need from the nether and have excess amount of iron while only having ever found 5 Diamond so far. All I'm waiting on now are the Endermen to give me my pearls. I suppose the stronghold and Enderdragon should prove a challenge, but short of tons of Arrows is anything else really necessary to finish the game? I feel like it's way too easy.
No mob traps, no XP-farming. Just the basic progression. Should it be harder?
If it's too easy you may want to consider giving the mob mods a try.
There are a couple out there that make mobs significantly more difficult to deal with and could very well cater to your desire for a harder game.
You could also change some things in your own way to make the game harder. Try playing hardcore mode without armor and see how easy it is then :tongue.gif:
IMO the only way to make the game truly difficult is more mob spawns and better AI -
Like, if one enderman is aggroed, he brings all of his friends along, or a bunch of skeletons utilize high ground to put their ranged attack to an advantage, while sending in zombies as a meat shield to keep distance, etc. etc.
Then it would be a truly horrific experience. Don't even start me on Nether mobs >_>
The sad thing is, the end is actually the easiest part of the game, silverfish are a joke but then again they tiny little things. I think the unsafest part is probably getting netherwarts because the nether is the most dangerous place in the entire game and you have to go far IN there to get some. I usually start killing blazes naked then wonder why their fire damages me so much. xD I usually start wearing armor after that point...
I haven't found a town yet, I made a castle entirely out of stone brick. It was a pain though because I had to worry about starving because I kept having to look for so much coal.

He's got to cater to the people who like to play by slamming their face on the keyboard.

Once I finish the game on Hardcore mode I'll probably be giving that a try, thanks for the suggestion.
...That's why there is a difficulty slider?
Hardcore mode is on Hard, and it's still incredibly easy :|

The balance needs to be overlooked, honestly.
