hey i found a bug in 1.0.0 where water turns into ice randomly. ive placed water in a regular biome not a snow biome and my water keeps turning into ice.
I don't think people are getting the point. I have this same problem. ALL the water on my friends server turned to ice, even if it was in the middle of the desert. I could deal with it if the ice remained in the snow biome water but when its in the swamps and deserts, it's a bit ridiculous. It seems all pre 1.0 worlds are having this problem when they update =/.
Yes, they have, because biome code changed, and chunks that look like from biome X are actually maybe biome A, B, or C internally. It is possible that a desert still looks like a desert but actually is andled as snow biome by Minecraft’s biome logic. Again: This results in snowfall in desert and water turning into ice there, even though it still looks like a desert.
THIS.
I'm sorry guys. Biomes changed with the Adventure Update, and changed even further with the 1.9/Release version.
NOT the actual blocks in your world, mind you, but the actual biome information. Meaning if you're standing in a huge pre 1.0 Release grassland area and the grass looks kinds brown, then in means you are now in a Desert Biome. Even though there is no sand around. Expect no rain there from now on.
Under these same rules, if you are smack into a Beta 1.8 swamp and water is now freezing left and right, you are now in a snow biome even though there isn't snow around. (Yet. Expect snowy precipitations soon)

I don't think that you're understanding what everyone is saying. The way biomes are coded changed with the update. No matter where it is, it may turn to ice. Wait for the area to precipitate, and the biome where the water turned to ice will become a snow biome.
Does it affect your whole world? 'Cos there's a lot of area in my world that I haven't explored (like most of it) it it looks like that anywhere I go, even by Portal, I end up in a snow biome. Please tell me that they're just really big biomes now.
i said i tested it out in a regular biome like a grass biome
Whiny people who don't understand how biomes work get mad at those who are actually trying to explain.

It sucks, I know, but we all dealt with it.

So now it decides what biome it is regardless of existing biomes??
