Have you seen that there's .txt files for the credits and the spirits talking? one could edit them for lolz!
Like writing YOU made the game :laugh.gif:
Why didn't Notch think of making an in-game feature? It'd be awesome!
We are playing a sandbox-style game that is so epic it has an ending built in that nobody has to complete with a huge community that can create an infinite amount of beginnings and endings using tools and textures that can be modified or left alone. You can use potions or not. You can use enchantments or not. You can modify the game to take those items out if you choose too.
This game has taken the sandbox game crown from Simcity 4 imho, and won't give it back until the next iteration of SimCity comes out (if ever).
Pasted from Arcology - Wikipedia
Will Wright's computer game SimCity 2000 allows the construction of four different types of arcologies. More primitive models hold quite a few people in exchange for producing considerable pollution, but later models are denser and cleaner. When 301 of the most advanced model, the "Launch Arco," are built, an "exodus sequence" starts in which all Launch Arcos blast into space. This parallels parts of Soleri's book, in which hyperstructures were shown as being appropriate for environments in space, under the sea, in polar lands, etc.
SimCity 2000 had an ending. I never used it.

Minecrafting since October 26th, 2010 for €9.95 EUR
All this time we've been imagining Minecraft is some fantastic alternate world that has had an ancient past, it's own geography, lore, and more.
Then it turns out in a long, rather creepy ending (for a sandbox game ಠ_ಠ) that you are infact someone who is asleep and dreaming that you are the palyer, and that it is time to wake up. That's pretty damn freaky, knowing that all of Minecraft was just some guy's dream while he was in a coma or something, and that none of it was ever real or a fantastic new world or anything.
Completely destroys little fragments of lore like how there must have been civillisation before the player (undead, strongholds, etc.), how the Testificates created settlements, why aload of Pigmen ended up zombified in the Nether, etc.
But that's the thing about Minecraft-- you don't have to follow a set storyline.
Heck if you really wanted to you could edit the win.txt or whatever it is to fit your storyline.
I agree that that's a pretty darn creepy ending, though, that the entirety of the game was a dream.
What was that one Mario game where at the end of the game, you find out that the entire flippin' thing was a dream?...

Here's my list of ideas for how I could change the ending:
A rickroll
Lyrics to Threw It at The Ground
Insults
Some stupid story
Chuck Norris jokes
Memes
and much, much, more stupid things.
Thank you, Notch, for not encrypting the game files. You have truly taken the phrase "sandbox game" to new lengths.

"Science isn't a matter of WHY, it's a matter of WHY NOT? WHY is so much of our science dangerous? Why don't you marry safe science if you love it so much? In fact, why don't you invent a special safety door that won't slam you in the butt on your way out? BECAUSE YOU ARE FIRED!" -Cave Johnson
Also, now I'm thinking of all sorts of crap I could do with the ending. I could put myself in the credits, but the thing I want to do most is replace the dragon boss theme with Four Part Plan from Portal 2.

The single most cherished quality that Minecraft had was that it was impossible to "beat."

NOTE: I'm talking of the long story AFTER you beat the dragon, not the fight itself or returning to the overworld.

That would fall under the third or fourth options. "Could have been shorter" or "There shouldn't be one so long".

minecraft does
This along with potions and enchantments is killing the game for me.
The ending isn't even good, so an even bigger no.

I thought it was pretty lame tbh, like someone trying to be al deep and thought provoking but it ended up reminding me of Oprah... and hero brine...
Uh, in 1.9pre6 minecraft does.
