I've been looking all over the place for diamonds, At the bottom of the map i have been mining and no diamonds, Mined for about two hours real time and likly went through multiple chunks, Did they increase the rarity?
Digging a wide, square 'room' is never efficient for finding diamonds, if that's what you're doing.
And from my experience in 1.9, which is quite vast, they seem about normal, as I'm sitting on around 130 diamonds after just clearing out room for my base and really not commiting a moment to mining specifically.

I'm digging tunnels and not square rooms, And i don't look in caves or mineshafts for stuff much because i'm scared of cave spiders.

Cave Spiders ONLY spawn in abandoned mineshafts, with spawners (which are distinct due to the BUTTLOAD of cobwebs around them). Other wise, they don't spawn naturally anywhere else.

Forgot to say that i'm also afraid of almost anything in a cave.
Why are you scared? Too much MineCraft, and your afraid if they'll kill your character, you'll die too?
There's also a thing called peaceful.
I don't want to go to peaceful, But i may resort to that just to get diamond. I look for diamond, And what do i get? Lots and lots of coal and redstone.
I am t bedrock level, I think i am around those floors, I've resorted to peaceful mode and raiding mineshafts and things like that looking for diamonds.
You do realize that diamonds are very rare , and just because you dont find them doesnt means that their rarity has been increased.
One time i mined for like 1 hour at the bottom of the world , no diamonds , one time i was bored and got down for like 10 - 15 minutes , found 5 diamonds , it is just random and it doesnt means that its rarity has been increased.

I do realize that, I'm saying that they seem more rare then they used to.
Edit:WOOT! I found diamonds! Just need to get obsidian, For that i need buckets, For buckets i need iron, And i got alot of that. *starts making iron ingots*

I'd be afraid of getting lost in a cavern with 20+ diamonds.
Just did a quick look at a heightmap showing only diamonds. To me it looks like there is still about 1 vein per chunk. And while in game the veins I have found seem a lot bigger to me. I use to find veins with only 3 or so a lot, but now I am finding veins with 4-6 on average sometimes more. To me it seems like there are either the same amount or slightly more diamonds than there use to be.
At first, I was wondering the same thing as the OP, but no, my branch mine yields are the same as they ever were. Maybe one diamond strike every ten minutes.
Just do want I am doing in my Multiplayer server I am playing, go down to level 11 and dig in a straight line 2x2 exploring all caves you find and just use water on lava, it works good.
I'm fairly certain that diamonds don't really spawn too much at bedrock level, I really never see them there. Next to all of the diamonds I have ever found were in levels 16-11 (and really closer to 14-11). Dig there, not at bedrock.
Seems to me that they pushed the ore heights lower...I saw some charts/analysis that some others had done.
I'm kinda confused why every attempt seems to try putting more stuff further out of reach. It's not like it's impossible to get too eventually, but each change seems to be trying to make the player go through more tedium to get the same results.

Pushing the diamond ore max elevation from 19 down to 15 did decrease the number of diamonds found in the lower caves, but most of the experienced people who are branch mining are usually branch mining between levels 10 and 15, so the elevation change probably didn't affect them as much.
Just think happy thoughts.

I'm afraid of slime more then even creepers(Got beat up by five max size slime and lost the only diamond i had found, That was a few days ago.)
I wanted redstone about a week ago, I found lots of diamonds, I want diamonds now, I find lots of redstone. :sad.gif:
