I'm going to post the world save soon. Obviously, this is not the best sword in the game, its just the highest level I've seen anywhere else, and wanted to get some theorycrafting over weapons happening. Great forum you guys, good debate/responces, about to go rate the best ones. Anyways here is an updated enchant list, vid, and links to some wold save. Can't wait to see a sc of the NEXT best sword.

Fire Aspect and Knockback go really great together. However, I think Looting is wasted on this sword because you most likely have to get the final hit yourself for it to work.

Well, the first hit knocks the monster back, so you constantly have to chase them. That's gonna get annoying. Knockback is actually a pretty annoying enchantment unless you have it on a Fire Aspect sword, then you want to knock them back so you can just let Fire Aspect kill them. It essentially gives you one hit kills. But if you want to get the increased looting effect, you're going to have to chase after monsters that you knocked back, and hope that the fire doesn't kill them first. So the Fire Aspect is basically wasted, and the Knockback is only making your job harder.
Personally I consider fire aspect a bad thing. Its basically a chance to get no xp for (on a diamond sword) no a damage bonus that you dont need. I would guess that the best weapon would be max looting, sharpness, the damage to undead and spiders. (assuming that you can get to a 1 hit kill with this, i dont know the numbers).
What do you need all that XP for with a sword like this?
For straight-out combat, you might want the undead bonus instead of looting. For collecting drops and/or exp, you might want a completely different combo.
You can get either sharpnes or Smite or Spider but not 2 of them or even all of them
thats a shame. Does sharpness V with a diamond sword 1 hit mobs? If not same weapon + crit? If still not a 1 hit then i would take smite or spider kill over sharpness. Plus knockback and loot. I am undecided on the 4th modifier but definetly dont want fire aspect. Personally i would prefer to not even have knockback on my main sword, and have a second sword on my hotbar with knockback for emergencies. That way i can still kill super fast.
Is there any proof whatsoever that fire aspect stops drops from even happening? :dry.gif: Last time I checked, sunlight makes mobs drop. Any mob that's taken player damage also typically drops exp regardless of how they died.

Seems like a lot of people overreacting.
I'm sure they probably still drop items, it's just that I doubt looting will take affect unless you kill the monster yourself.
Some people are getting confused about kill conditions. I will clarify.
1) mobs drop items no matter how they die.
2) mobs ONLY drop xp when killed by a player
3) death by fire does not count as killed by a player
Now how this effects enchants.
1) you only get extra items from looting if you kill the mob. (ie fire aspect give extra loot only if they die from a swing, not from the fire)
2) mobs only drop xp if killed by the swing (not from a fire kill via fire aspect)
because of this fire aspects prevents xp drops and extra items from looting some of the time (unless you never let the fire be the killing blow).
Because of this IMO fire aspect is never good and is especially bad when combined with looting.
Also when it comes to XP consider that it will be likely that most people will enchant a good diamond sword before enchanting armour, so even with an epic weapon you will still want a LOT of xp to enchant the rest of your armour and possibly tools.
I don't know the actual values now, but you can look them up, I'm pretty sure they are in the wiki, But I don't think any legit enchantment will give you 1 hit kills...about the choice between smite, spider and sharpnes...it depends on what you want to kill
It's random, but the max bonus you can get on a Sharpness V sword is +5 hearts damage. I don't believe that's enough to give diamond swords 1 hit kills, which makes it an incredible waste of effort... Sharpness V only has a 10% chance of appearing on a level 50 enchant, so it's pretty much impossible to get anyway.
That's too bad because Fire Aspect is a great enchantment for killing monsters, too bad it's terrible for XP / Looting.

Well a diamond sword does 5 damage by default. And, according to the wiki, each level of sharpness adds .5-1 damage per level. So that's 7.5-10 damage per swing, giving a chance of a 1 hit kill. Now if you consider that a crit with a diamond sword does 8 damage, the sharpness effect should make all crits a 1 hit ko as it'll add 2.5-5 hearts of damage. Throw on a Potion of Strength and even your regular hits should be 1 shots more often than not and a Potion of Strength II is nothing but 1 shots for the duration!

How to not die in a cave
To enchant a new sword when this one breaks, or to enchant tools and armor. You'll always need more XP.

Looting is just the ****. It needs to be on any sword you make. (I have just a looting III sword I use to butcher cows and pigs).

Agreed, but as far as I know its unavailable or has about a .001% rate
Also, I hope no one thinks I meant it was the best ever, or anything like that. I just meant it is the best one I've seen so far.
