One of the things that many of these theories leave (mostly) untouched is why the Skeletons and Zombies appear at night and burn in the day. I mean, an obvious answer on the nonmagical side of things is that they'll end up dehydrated by the heat of the sun, which is why they can survive in water in the day time. But then that begs the question, why do creepers only spawn in the dark too, when they can survive in daylight?
The presence of vinyl suggests that these inhabitants were able to extract and process crude oil into Polyvinyl Chloride resin, no small task for even advanced societies.
Please, the records are obviously made out of engraved obsidian disks, which is why you need a diamond to play them. All other materials are worn down too quickly by the ridges. :smile.gif:
Oh, Except 11, which is, uh... oo, I know, somebody tried to play it with a diamond pickax, that's the ticket.
I always theorize that the zombies and skeletons are the remnants of the previous civilization(s) after whatever cataclysms and events happened to wipe them out. Since they are undead in nature, there must have been magic involved in the cataclysm. Perhaps the Ender gates were part of it.
After spending many days in two interconnected abandoned mineshafts, I find myself curious about the changes of the support structures seeing both the full plank costruction and the fence construction. Was it a shortage of wood that made them switch to the lighter but slightly more resource effecient fences, or perhaps just an advancement, an understanding that using full plank blocks were unnecessary and wasteful. I'd also like to challenge the idea the mineshaft builders visited the surface for wood. While this may have been necessary initially, I have come across several large open squares in cave complexs, and the bottoms of theses empty cubes is a floor composed entirely of dirt, perfect for tree, melon, even wheat farming. The only disparity I noticed is that there are no torch remnants like in the mineshafts but its possible I'e simpley stumbled across all the empty 'farms' where all the torches burnt out. There are many mineshafts where torches far and few between. These strange empty area certainly don't nullify the theory the mineshaft buidlers ventured to the surface, but it does show there were viable alternatives, that the miners could have been entirely cave dwellers.
the buildings suggest that creepers are a relativity new species (caused by the fusion of plant DNA with pig DNA) as the villages have no defense or blast proofing. this is shown in the thickness of the widows these are thinner and less blast proof than the think versions used more often.
False. The villagers obviously live in harmony with the monsters and creatures of the wild. The only time damage is done to their homes is when Steve brings the War to them.

My Stronghold theory:
Strongholds were bases for an underground civilization. They will be known as Humans. The humans crafted many underground structures. They did this because above ground, at night, there were mobs (Creepers and spiders, for now). These mobs were dangerous, and ruled the ground in both day and night. They continued to expand their strongholds, until one day hey found a peculiar ore: The Ender frame. They could not move it, for it was too heavy. They then decided to use pistons, and then pushed them into place. After they got them together, they filled the slots with various rocks (There were no Endermen at this time, and Ender Eyes were used as a lock). This activated a rip in space and time, creating access to The End. The End was a lush, beautiful rainforest, filled with Ender monks that had a highly advanced civilization, with space travel and all. The monks were peaceful, and welcomed them into their world, however, the Humans weren’t so nice, and saw them as threats. They attacked, hoping to defeat the Ender monks. The war escalated, causing the Ender monks to regress into the soulless, hostile creatures they are now. In a last ditch effort, they made it so only Eyes of ender could open the portal, but alas, it was too late. However, both sides accomplished what they wanted: The Ender monks got live, at the expense of their world, and the Humans saved their world, at the expense of their civilization. They remaining then humans regressed into nothing more than zombies and skeletons, making the above ground hostile mobs Endermen, Zombies, Skeletons, Spiders, and Creepers.
The mineshaft builders were the Testificates, long ago. They had access to every ore, and their diet consisted of Bread, Melons, and Pumpkins. Having access to every ore meant that they were able to successfully combat all of the mobs, reducing their numbers to that of what they are now, allowing them to build above ground structures (Testificate villages). However, they came to an end when a giant continental disruption occurred, causing the massive ravines you see today. This leaves the Testificates above ground, regressing into nothing but monks.
Where is Steve?
Steve was a member of the humans, and was put into a sort of magical sleep until the disruption caused him to awaken. He retained SOME of his memories, like crafting and Alchemy, but he lost all of his personal memories.
How did the Testificates kill more Mobs?
They crafted higher level objects, allowing them to fight mobs more efficently.
OK, we've got 4 classes of humaniods:
1. endermen
2. undead (skeles and zombies)
3. creepers
4. villagers
We've got four classes of structures:
1. Strongholds
2. Mineshafts
3. Dungeons
4. Villages
Obviously, there are several intrinsic links between endermen and strongholds and as we've established strongholds are the earliest structures, so let's call the first epoch the age of endermen. They were once a powerful and wise race of mages. They studied extensively in their massive libraries and delved deeply into the magic arts. They even opened a portal to the magic realm now known as the enderrealm. Unfortunately, there they met the Dragon, an evil creature that cursed them. Their minds began to decay. In a last ditch effort to defeat the dragon, they used their magic to bring a new race to the world, the miners. The only remnant of the Ender's former glory is the lingering desire to build. Unfortunately, their ruined mind cannot plan so they simply randomly pick up and set down blocks.
The second epoch was that of the miners. They were the most advanced technologically, but lacked the engineering prowess of the ender. Never the less, they delved deeply into the earth finding treasures and building complex rail systems. They were warned of the dragon and built weapons to prepare for his coming. Knowing the debt they owed the now ruined ender, they avoided conflict with them, instead they simply built their mines too small for endermen to enter. Some of their mines intersected the strongholds and they discovered the libraries of magic books the ender had abandoned. The practice of magic was banned, but there were rebels who ignored this prohibition. The miner wizards lacked both the wisdom and the peaceful nature of the ender though and practiced the dark arts. When the miners discovered the crimes, they attempted to take the criminals into custody, but the wizards had grown to strong and released a plague into the miner's population. The zombie plague got them and spread like wildfire in the close quarters of the mine. Just as the ender continue to try and build, the tool use of the miners continues into their undeath. They use bows and wear clothes from their former lives. Doors were never used as their mines were kept too small for the ender to enter.
The third epoch was that of the necromancers. They made the monster spawners to provide an endless source of slave labor. The dark magics that made them dominant would also be their undoing though. Their bodies were slowly twisted into a wretched shape and the evil magics were unstable in their frail bodies. When threatened or angry, they would release this stored up energy in a massive explosion.
The fourth epoch is the age of the villagers. Since the undead seem to be enraged by thought and deliberate action, predation bred the intelligence out of the villagers. They were peaceful social, creatures who had no idea how to defend themselves. We see the remnants of their culture in the hereditary passing of former titles and clothing despite loss of all knowledge of what those jobs actually were.
This brings us to steve. He is obviously one of the miners race, but apparently has a mutation that makes him immune to zombie-ism. This became active when he reached adulthood curing his condition.
I think that Endermen are an ancient Cult that created the nether portals to worship their "God" but they could not stop the force that was unleashed and their Cult disbanded.
The Cult split into a few factions to live out their days until the nether consumed the entire world.
There was those that returned to their strongholds and fortified them to try and defend against the coming "Judgement Day". These beings were known as heroes that fought in
"The Great War".
There was those that went underground to hide from the impending doom, thus the mine shafts. These beings were reduced to slime due to lack of sunlight and proper nutrients.
They invented a way to attract monsters to certain areas "Monster Spawners". Here they hid their most valuable possessions.
There were those who decided to turn a blind eye on the whole event and chose to live their lives out in peaceful little villages as happily as they could.
And there were those who stayed within the Nether to worship, believing that they would be granted great power and wealth. All their worshiping turned them into the Endermen we know today. The Nether army was already formidable with the countless Pigmen soldiers and Ghast demons, with the added EnderLords with the knowledge to open portals the army was ready to advance!
Here we have The Great War!
Nether Portals were opened all over the Over World unleashing floods of Pigmen and Ghast armies. The Over World had been preparing for a long time, but they were not ready for this type of attack. They did not know their enemy, while the enemies EnderLords knew Human tactics.
There were hundreds of bloody battles with some Human Victories, but many more Nether victories. The Humans were forced back to their last few strongholds, here they devised their plan, their only hope! The idea was simple, but the task near impossible....Kill the EnderLords and seal the Portals.
There were many plans hatched but the choice was made that "Project BoomLure" would be the last hope for humanity.
..All the civilians of the remaining towns were gathered up and sent to the last remaining stronghold. Once inside they dug a massive tunnel system away from the stronghold and up into the wilderness to be actually safe from the battle, the EnderLords would have seen the Humans enter the stronghold and would be too greedy to pass the chance of crushing every remaining Human in one place.
So the trap was set... To lure every EnderLord into one place and use the Humans greatest weapon....TNT created during The Great War.
As it came to pass, the final fortress was surrounded by the EnderLords and their armies. The three remaining Heroes went out to meet the EnderLords in a fake submission.
When the right moment came the heroes killed the three closest EnderLords with quick sword slashes and detonated the TNT. In the confusion the EnderLords panicked, not realizing the Humans could have been so daring as to make a trap like this. The TNT, an unseen weapon until this point turned out to be much more powerful than the Humans thought. The Nether Armies were so awed by this devastating weapon that half of the army turned and ran back into the closest portals and the other half was obliterated. The remaining Humans left were set with the task of destroying all the nether portals throughout the land. Once this was complete they were free to live their lives as they had been.
The lore of TNT and Nether Portals was lost after this.
The story of Steve:
Steve simply was out on an adventure about 1000 years after "The Great War" which was reduced to myth by this point. He hit his head on fall and lost all his memory. When he finds Villages they are just places he has never been so his face is not recognized.
Redstone was definitely not beyond these early Mincraftia inhabitants as evidenced by it being found in storage chests in abandoned mine shafts. The fact that we find restone but not any redstone contraptions is definitely a puzzle.
Perhaps they were aware that it did something, but lacked the ability to to figure out what, or to access said ability. As an example, we are mathematically aware of atoms that move backwards on the fourth axis (so, as we understand it, time), but lack the tools to observe or utilize them. Or perhaps they used it for some kind of ritualistic purposes.
Since I do not have very much time to post this reply I will only talk about my theory's concerning the nether's occupants.
I do believe that the nether was inhabited by an intelligent species, this is obvious based on the giant nether strongholds built around the nether. Until evidence arises to change my mind I am inclined to believe that this species was pigmen. Hunger is a factor in the nether and if nether wart was not used as a food source then the only other eatable material are the mushrooms that will occasionally grow. Since we can clearly see the sheer amount of strongholds and their size I think we can deduce that many pigmen lived in the nether, perhaps having numbers bordering on the thousands. I do not think that the meager amount of mushrooms could sustain their life, this is of course assuming that they "eat" their food. Pigmen are a different species from humans so we cannot assume that they eat the same way humans do with our limited knowledge concerning them.
Assuming that they receive their sustenance from food products I do not think the meager supply of mushrooms in the nether would sustain their numbers. Mushrooms grow slowly by themselves so I believe that the only way the pigmen survived is by using magic and potions to influence the growth of the mushrooms. I also belive that they could have used their magic to compress netherack into the bricks that make up the stronghold, as we have no idea to reproduce the results I think that this may be a viable hypothesis. People have speculated that the pigmen were a magical race and I believe they could use their abilities to speed up the growth of their food supply. Potions are also a possibility. Since they had no known container to store the potions in I think that potions were used and made on the spot. This method could have been used to make balms for injuries, or to make a possible fertilizer.
I think that after some time the pigmen sought a better area to live in, after extensive research and test they found the existence of the overworld.
The pigmen then gathered up all their greatest magicians and prepared to create a portal to the overworld. It is a possibility that a rift existed between the nether and the overworld, so to make a portal fist the pigmen had to breach the rift. They made a small hole, small enough that they could only fit roughly two people at a time. They emerged in a cave system which they began to make a fort of operations to receive incoming travelers through the portal. I believe that these shelters could have been the first strongholds. Since the pigmen had no idea that there was a world above the caves they decided to change the stronghold into a more permanent establishment. I believe that eventually the pigmen discovered the surface, possibly due to discovering a cave in their expansion that lead to the surface. Once they reached the lush surface they decided that this world was a more suitable environment to live in. Many pigmen had decided to stay in the nether due to its familiarity. After this discovery however, all the pigmen wanted to move to the new world. The original portal could not transport the entire civilization in a sufficient manner however so the pigmen mages gathered together to make a temporary cavity that all the pigmen would be pulled through that would close soon after so that they did not cause any unforeseeable damage. The spell was imperfect though and it killed all the mages and all the other pigmen who were observing the ritual, which was almost the entirety of the population on the overworld.
I believe pigmen back in the nether were confused when they did not teleport and began to live life as they usually as they did in the nether. However, without the power of the main mages they could not create enough food to sustain themselves. Riots followed, driven by a need for food. The higher ranking pigmen were outnumbered and as a defence, they had what few mages remained create metal boxes, imbued with magic that created demons that spat fire. Eventually the pigmen numbers began to fall drastically and the thriving civilization had been destroyed. The riots had left the bridges between the citadels ruined and the pigmen race began to slowly die off.
There were not that many left, so I believe the last of the great mages cast a spell, swearing that their great race would not die off. The spell turned all the pigmen undead, not needing the food that was denied them, and giving them an uncanny resistance to fire. With that the great mage left through the portal, abandoning his people to their fate.
I could weave a story about how the mage went to create the testificates and with his dying breath created an intelligent human being in the hopes that he would one day unravel the spell he had cast but there is no evidence suggesting that, and would merely be a fable.
I think it is more likely that the testificates are merely byproducts of evolution and never developed the need for speech, or they began mute following a tragic accident. I will write more of my theories in due time.
I have an Idea. Maybe the Strongholds are religious structure built in exact spots to channel the energy of the End. Villages might be constantly rebuilding themselves, and have been around for ages. They dug large mineshafts to support their population, but natural disasters where plaguing their lands. Finally they figure out a way to the nether using plans sent to them by Notch. They construct large roads connecting large amounts of land. Other structures are built around these roads. Later on, they discover rifts in the overworld. These rifts slowly leak endermen. After locating all three rifts, they build large religious complexes around each one. But little did they know that those rifts were what was causing the disasters, and the act of opening up the rifts completely unleashed a force that decimated their civilization. Large ravines opened up and storms raged across the land. This is when Steve is seperated from normal civilization. Being deformed(compared to the villagers), and suffering from slight amnesia, he slowly relearns everything. Every once in a while he will find a new resource that he can't locate in older parts of the areas he's memorized. Over time, he relearned nether portal making, wool dying, how to tame wolves, and what lapis looks like. Now he is learning new advances villages have made that he wasn't aware of. Potion making and enchanting. And with new lighting(Blocky-smooth-textured Steve's vision has been clearing up.
Not too much of a Herobrine freak, but that's part of Minecraftian history now, so here it goes :tongue.gif:
Herobrine began a genocidal campaign against humans and their creations (strongholds and mineshafts) and has buried them, (buried mineshafts just end up being further down than they used to) and placed spawners and dungeons randomly within the world to deter their revival.
You are a survivor after a horrible attack, from long ago. You appear in the world, at a random location, with no memories or sign of how long it has been since the attack.
Herobrine sends endless torrents of monsters to attack you during the night. While you defend against the monsters, Herobrine sneaks into your camp and displaces things.
Endermen are dimensional agents sent to stop Herobrine from doing naughty things. Their realm is the End, which houses the dimensional keys known as Ender Dragons.
The villagers are mutants, shaped by time and the past battles with Herobrine. Hopefully one day they will assume a regular form.
The Nether used to be the dimensional gate known as the End but now is used as Herobrine's domain since the original slaying of the Ender Dragon.
The final goal is that, having traversed the Nether, and using the portal to reach the End, you learn you and Herobrine are the same person, but are parallel dimensional twins split from the same person when the Ender Dragon who guarded the Nether before it became a lava-ridden hell, and after having killed the Ender Dragon a second time reform again into one being, allowing the reconstruction of the world Herobrine/YourEvilTwin wrought, ultimately repeating the same story.
Essentially, the End is also the Beginning; an endless loop between parallel twins: Steve? the constructor and Herobrine the destructor!
But I have a major migraine right now, so I'm not really sure what I just wrote. Maybe it will make sense to someone? I wish it made sense to me right now :tongue.gif:
I do not wish do offend you learned colleague but I can not believe your theory about this so called "Great War".
In all my travels in the land of Minecraftia I have not seen a single scrap of evidence suggesting a war, even a small one. There are no crumbling ruins, no massive craters etc. I find it hard to believe that such a large battle could leave no marks on the earth. Also if it was between nether forces and overworld forces, why don't pigmen attack Steve whenever they see him. After all, he is a member of the civilization that fought the nether forces and looks like them.
So far no one seems to have made any observations of the mushroom biomes so I'll give it a go.
A mushroom got an infection that caused it to grow to massive heights. This mushroom seemed to have then decayed and it's spores were carried away in the wind and infected other places. The spores seem to contain an element called Micilli. I will name the disease Micillius Shroomi
Some observed affects of these spores are:
Turning the grass purple.
This may be the result of the disease spreading to the grass. But the grass lacks the elements to grow as big as mushrooms, so it only turns purple. It also seems to carry the disease for a while after it has been infected as it allows mushrooms to grow massive and spread out.
Mooshrooms. Cows in the area of the purple grass (Micillium) Have ingested the micillium and been infected. The mushrooms then have tried to grow from the cow. But because the back of a cow isn't as fertile as dirt, the mushrooms stayed small. The disease has then spread out from the bases of the mushrooms. It slowly affects the cow, turning it's skin red and blackening the whites of the eyes. This disease can be cured by removing the mushrooms of the cows back with shears. With the source dead the cow will turn back to normal. Also once exposed purely to oxygen and no micilli they are no longer infected and can be consumed in soup.

before strongholds and mine shafts I always imagine that dungeons were built by an early civilization to contain the monsters coming from the spawners. Over time the dungeons fell apart and the monsters flooded the earth. I'm not sure why these dungeons contained loot.
Most likely, whichever civilization built these dungeons used the spawner to keep their precious chests of pig-saddles and cocoa beans safe.

There isn't a lot of evidence of the Trojan War these days, but it still happened. Plus, fortresses are predominately underground. Perhaps this war took place several hundreds/thousands of years ago? The fortresses, previously on the surface, have simply sunk into the ground as time slowly marches on.
This I disagree on. Perhaps whatever caused the zombism was "focused" on the humans, but, due to the ongoing war with the Pigmen, "splashed" onto them, which would also explain the retained humanity pigmanity.
However, I submit another query:
The Pigmen live(d) in a truly hellish place, yet their weapon of choice is golden swords.
The only way I can think that happened is: Mabye pigmen were originally overworld creatures. But for some reason they got banished to the nether and turned into zombies but they brought gold swords with them. I know it's a flimsy idea but it's all I can come up with.

Perhaps the Pigmen retained some element of their "pigmanity" (hehehehe) when they zombified, and have long since "given up" on the ancient war.
https://secure.worldcommunitygrid.org/index.jsp
Anyway I was thinking that but The Scholar BigDubbyMabux said they were already zombies.
humanitypigmanity.However, I submit another query:
The Pigmen live(d) in a truly hellish place, yet their weapon of choice is golden swords.
1) Where did they get gold to make swords?
2) Why would they use golden swords?
