I've added some notes on my inventory seen in the picture I took from my experience using that inventory in the End. I also edited a few things for the 1.9 PR5 (1.9 pre-release 5), such as noting that pig spawners don't work anymore.
If you want a more permanent base without endermen everywhere around it, you can always torch a small island off the End's mainland, then begin to build on it. Some seeds create large mini-islands perfect to inhabit, others yield little more than tiny clusters of blocks in which you'll probably be best off building on the mainland. If you have a peninsula in your world, you can also choose to wall it off with a thick, sturdy wall, then torch the part cut off and build there.
Or you can create an artificial island, preferably above the mainland high enough so Endermen can't teleport but low enough so you won't die if you fall off. Unfortunately, wool isn't renewable, so you can't make something look like grass without using up precious dirt that would have gone towards crops.
JUST 1 question how do i get in the END? Please reply with quote
Find a stronghold by throwing Eyes of Ender and following them (and digging down when they no longer float up), then search through that stronghold until you find a room with a silverfish spawner and a 3x3 square of lava. Above the square of lava there should be 12 blocks in a square shape without corners. Use ender eyes on the blocks until they are all filled, get all your stuff ready, then go through the resulting portal.
I just noticed (in 1.9 PR5) that mining whitestone with any pickaxe returns whitestone, not cobblestone. Which makes lava and setting up a stone generator even more important, but I still hold to my advice to not do what I have done: one lava bucket is enough with the way lava works.
Err... so you know how I've been saying that you should only bring one lava bucket? I just figured out that with 4 buckets you can make an infinite source. So if you like lava, bring four buckets, if you just want to use it a little bit, bring 1 bucket, bringing 2, 3, or 5+ is inadvisable still.

Jeb says he is going to revert the liquid code to an earlier version, so I would not rely on this.

Possibly, but it might be useful to stockpile on lava while the infinite lava is still available by making chambers full of lava to draw from for when it gets reverted. Regardless, one bucket can be used for many separate machines and traps because of the way it often doesn't disappear when the source is taken away, so even with infinite sources I'd prefer taking a single bucket over four, but someone who uses lava for traps, moats, and machines often would want to bring four to be able to have infinite lava.
I've been thinking about this challenge myself
1: Apparently enderdragons can destroy anything but white stone and obsidian so its only really makes sense to build underground
2: you don't really need to bring enchanting tables, assuming you bring diamond blocks and reeds to grow you can always just get some obsidian once you get to the end and craft the table there (and save a whole inventory space.
Can someone give me the source as to enderdragon's not destroying whitestone and obsidian? I pay attention to the typical ways Notch and Jeb communicate, but I haven't come across that statement.
this+hardcore PVP server= ULTIMATE MINECRAFT CHALLENGE! yea i see this could be very fun in multiplayer as more people= more stuff you can bring = more possibilies!
This thread has given me an idea for a new challenge map, along the lines of sky block.
You spawn in a bedrock box with an ender frame missing one eye. Theres a chest with your supplies.
What are your must have supplies?
Heres the list I came up with
1 ender eye
1 pumpkin
1 mellon
1 lava bucket
2 ice
20 grass
1 diamond block
1 iron block
10 saplings
10 sand
1 cactus
1 reed
10 bones
1 diamond pick axe
1 of each mushroom
2 snow blocks
Might be an interesting challenge, although it would be hard to live with so little dirt/grass in the End, and you'd need pumpkin seeds if you want more than one pumpkin. Also, maybe some eggs, otherwise all you'd have to accompany you would be endermen.
It might be even better to spread all but the necessities over the End in places you can only get to later on.

Making enchanting tables in the End with diamonds would be better than bringing them, thanks. I'll add that to the OP (and remove "enchanting tables" from the list). Previously I overlooked being able to get obsidian in the End when bringing diamonds.

Oh, I see. This also means it is possible to save yet another slot by wearing a pumpkin as a helmet and using it for seeds rather than bringing seeds in a separate inventory slot. With so many changes, I think I'll set up another inventory of what I would bring if I were to do it again based off of what I've added to the guide so far. I'll hopefully get the screenshot ready by tomorrow.

I made a new thread with a link to the saved game.
I need to tweak the spawn point I messed it up.
Also the end seems to be random generated and not use the seed.
I also need to add more saplings, I had bad luck and my tree didn't drop any.
Could be an interesting place to survive. I suspect one challenge will be ender proofing your home. In the normal world, enderman are not too common, so a missing block or two is no issue. In the end, enderman are everywhere, most built structures will gradual be taken apart by the endermen.
You have to place water all around your house

They teleport out of water immediately, which can even cause them to teleport through other defenses.
