Although, the free building aspects were what attracted me to the game in the first place I take no issue with the new content added in 1.9, as most of it does not affect your ability to play the game the way you did before. Most of the new updates you do not have to use.
There are only two differences I can see that will affect people who want to play in a similar way to the game before the 1.8 update.
1) Hunger, but hunger is ridiculously easy to manage...
2) Endermen wrecking things when you are not around ... which was mostly fixed in early 1.9.
Other than that you got a whole bunch of new blocks to play with and a bunch a new features that you don't even have to acknowledge exist, just don't look up potion recipes or make enchantment tables or turn of generating structures...
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
When no one was looking, the Endermen took forty blocks.
They took 40 blocks. That’s as many as four tens. And that’s horrible.
I'm pretty excited about 1.9, and I like a lot of the game's recent changes. I'm one of those people who enjoys Minecraft both for building and exploring, so I've always wanted an adventure update. Even so, I think some of the recent changes have caused some unintended problems, like the problems with persistent animals, the fact that the ground is too swiss-cheesed by all the caves/mines. Endermen moving blocks around was also a horrible idea and I'm glad it was nerfed (even though I'd still prefer it to be completely removed.)
Overall though I think most of the changes are for the better... I like the idea of potions, enchantments, and I think the new dimension looks promising. More things to do is always a good thing.
I see you went to wikipedia, but even though you bolded the key point, you missed the meaning or didn't follow the link to the definition of "feature complete".
As even wikipedia states, the beta testing phase generally begins when the software is feature complete. To continue with the wikipedia definition:
"A feature complete version of a software is not yet final, but contains all intended functionality of the final version."
So, according to the definition of a Beta version, the real minecraft beta doesn't quite start until Oct 18 with the code freeze and only bug fixes. What we had before now was at best an Alpha, regardless of what Notch labeled it.
And that is why people who bought a "Beta" version of the software feel cheated. They were fooled into thinking they were buying a Beta version (feature complete) and read descriptive reviews of the game, only to find out not only that it wasn't feature complete but that the addition of those features turned it into quite a different game. With 1.8/1.9 they did not get what they thought they paid for.
And that rolls back to what I said in the first place... the problem could be fixed by having 3 modes: Creative, Survival (1.7 plus a few of the 1.8/1.9 features) and Adventure/RPG.
Note: simply saying "don't use the new features" doesn't work. Several capabilities were either changed or nerfed in order to "justify" the abilities granted by potions or enchantments.
Have you the need to disregard anything I had stated? If you would take your ignorant self out of the "dark corner" and think more than just what first comes to your mind and actually dissect what you are talking about you may actually be able to accept being wrong.
Once again. The last phase in alpha featured the completed product to which "must" be used in game mechanics for the rest of it's career. These mechanics are still in use from all of the beta tests and releases. There was in no way what so ever any change in any original game mechanic except in the intention to create a better condition of the original concept.
They were fooled into thinking they were buying a Beta version (feature complete) and read descriptive reviews of the game, only to find out not only that it wasn't feature complete but that the addition of those features turned it into quite a different game
Why have you got this unmovable idiotic idea in your head even after my extreme reasoning? The beta still features the god damn completed feature. SURVIVAL!!!!!!!! YAY!!!! No. For some reason you feel the urge to for some reason have stroke at the first thought of something being added for survival was this not the intention of Notch from the start? Was he only adding to the game in pure hope to create a better environment from which the game mechanics can expand, yet stay the same in which it can keep the label of beta? I'd assume so. From what do you gather that there
Several capabilities were either changed or nerfed in order to "justify" the abilities granted by potions or enchantments.
What have you the audacity to even think of a comment like that. WHAT HAS CHANGED? A god damn ****ing food bar? Was this added in intentions to better enhance survival? Yes. Sprint? Was this added in intentions to better enhance survival? Yes. You feel that the game mechanics have changed in favor of potions and enchantments but you sir are wrong which brings me back to your "dark corner". You really need to think outside the box. What were potions and enchantments added for? Survival. Was this not the idea the game was based upon? So really, everything was added in hopes to better enhance survival, NOT POTIONS AND ENCHANTMENTS. Think outside the box for once.
And to the rest of you that feel that Minecraft was made for the use of "mechanics" and "building". You're wrong. Why didn't Notch just name is Buildcraft or I'mAShittyAssGameThatIOnlyGetToBuildUselessStructuresWithNoPoint?
"If I would make my own block world (Minecraft clone) game to meet my needs I would get flamed for "rip-offing"."
Only if you sold it silly goose. Why do you think mods are so popular? You make it YOUR game when you mod. Take out potions and put in pulleys if you want. DO EET.
The people that do not like the updates may be in the minority, but when it comes to legal ownership of the game, I bet you they are in the majority. :tongue.gif:
Well don't bet too much on it because I for example bought four licences and gifted 3 :tongue.gif:
I wasn't into 1.9 prerelease until i tried it out myself. Some of the ideas may be weird but this is all what made up minecraft from the start. Although that feel back in Alpha is gone, the dull feel is fairly great to minecraft. Overall although I may not like Minecraft as much, It still is a good game. :smile.gif:
I don't understand what's going on in the peoples minds who complain that "the adventure updates turn minecraft from something unique into an average rpg game". That doesn't even make sense. Last time I checked, you could just build just as much as in older releases, there's just RPG stuff on top of it. No "average rpg" allows you to edit your surroundings as you wish and freely build own houses, castles and whatever you like.
There's so many things wrong with this post. First of all, how is it a betrayal? As I said above, he's not removing your abililty to build what you want, and as a human being with your own will, you're free to ignore any RPG stuff whenever you want. Also, the Creative/Survival/Adventure split is exactly what's happening. You didn't notice yet that you get to pick between Creative mode and Survival mode? Also, I heard that Notch mentioned he was going to make a separate Adventure mode.
I think it's more of the fact that some people don't like hunger and whatnot. Sure people can go into Creative Mode to build if that is all they want to do without ever needing to look for anything... But some people like to build, mine, and fight. So they would play in Survival Mode. Though it's true they don't have to use any of the RPG type items hunger plus the new way that we heal cannot be avoided unless they play on Peaceful. Though I, myself, am having a lot of fun in 1.9 pre 4 I do agree with others that some things need to be optional and understand why some people might not like it. As for Adventure Mode I have heard the same thing. Not sure if it's true or not though.
Im fairly positive that Notch will continue to develop minecraft far past this phase of "fantasy" and "RPG" element, but my question is, why does it matter if the game contains some elements that do not have to effect you if you so choose not to acknowledge them? This is and will only be one facet of Minecraft so wait some time and you know cooler game mechanics will be implemented, a lot of people in the community agreed they wanted adventure and questing elements in the game so they are delivering, with the fantasy element maybe we can expect cool mechanical objects such as pulleys for a draw bridge on a castle, considering the theme? I am more impressed that the actual game is starting to fill in and get to the point where if I tire of one task or ability, I can easily swap it out for farming or branch mining, hunting for experience, you know, it gives more of a purpose to the creatures than blowing up your creations and giving you craft goods, maybe experience will do more than just enchant wearable objects, and who knows cauldrons will be used for cooking for all we know, these are just the base ideas being thrown out, and even Notch himself has stated if he does not like it, he will scrap it and start over.
TL;DR
why can't a Sandbox game incorporate every style of game element, I thought sandbox and open world environments meant having the tools to explore and do anything pre-designated at will?

Villagers need to turn into zombies once killed by a zombie... March 24th 2012
You were here for about 3 hours, moaning and crying. Stop using your caps lock so often, stop swearing, stop with the terrible insults, and go outside.
The new stuff adds oodles of gameplay and more incentive to explore and go on perilous adventures. You just so happen not to like those features, it seems, and it makes you immediately dismiss them as crap.
I agree, I love going exploring, but in 1.7.3 and before the only real reward there was new territory and if you were really lucky maybe some pumpkins or a dungeon.... mow there are ravines, mineshafts with stuff in them, towns (that can be invaded and you can supress the natives), as well as strongholds (whuch i still havent come across in legit gameplay), all the while looking for new ingredients for potions... and this is not to mention all the stuff in the nether you can fight farm or collect... PLUS whatever turns out to be in The End... And then after all the exploring is over, i can head back home and work on expanding and fortifying my base just like i used to...
It's not so much not being able to play around these new updates, as the time wasted on coding junk into the game when they could have added something really cool and useful that would have added oodles of game play.
What about stone bricks? Those are an awesome addition, they add a lot more variety to buildings. Same deal with Nether Bricks, having more building materials is always good.
In 1.9 it's now possible using enchantments to pick up things like ice blocks which adds more possibilities.
What about the ability to grow giant mushrooms where-ever you want? That's a cool addition that adds some gameplay. You can grow your own mushroom forest or just use them for decoration.
Even if you're not going to use enchantments, the enchantment table is a nice looking and cool piece of furniture. So is the cauldron.
I think there's a lot of things about the recent updates you're overlooking. Even if you aren't into "exploration," the creative side of the game has gotten a number of boosts.
You were here for about 3 hours, moaning and crying. Stop using your caps lock so often, stop swearing, stop with the terrible insults, and go outside.
I'm the one moaning? Crying? Have you not the slightest urge to read what I'm saying instead of making yourself look like an incoherent troll?
I'm the one telling them to stop crying as their points are illegitimate idiot "thoughts" that they for some reason can't see the slightest bit other than what they have convinced themselves as true.
And the 3 hours? Take the ****ing sticks out of your ass and grow the **** up. At lease come up with some kind of response other than a half-minded comment that has nothing to do with anything. How about you go get an education and come up with a good insult yourself. I wasn't trying to insult anyone, only coming to the word idiot to express the intelligence of the one I was responding to. Is that an insult? No. You need to take a minute to think about what you say before you say it as I said so many times before.
By the way, it took me maybe 20 minutes to respond to the comment and you sir try way to hard troll and make yourself look like an idiot in it's own state. And by the way, the only one that liked your comment the one I proved wrong and couldn't come up with a response himself. Congratulations, get an education.
well... i wouldn't really say i'm unhappy with the state of minecraft now, but the code freeze came too early.

4 things still wip. how does notch/jeb expect to be able to release the game by minecon? even if they manage to do so, the game is still incomplete, unfit for a full release. it should stay in beta, even if they have to push the release date back after minecon.
i think it's just right (as a programmer myself) to get everything in place, good and proper, with no bugs, then release it.
right now minecraft is like a half baked pie, still piping hot, but the party is starting soon, so this kid hurriedly takes the half baked pie out to serve to others. it's just not right imo.

I still play the pre-releases, and I am really trying to get into it's bits and bobs, but not having to much success I'm afraid.
Well that's too bad. This may seem silly to you... and although I love a lot of the stuff in the 1.8 and 1.9 updates, personally one of my favorite new things is the stone bricks.
