Explain how are those RPG stuff and how it's ruining anything at all? I mean, walking skeletons attacking you, giant spiders and zombies are very common in RPGs. So what's the problem with cows covered in mushrooms and golems?
It's because they are COMMON in adventure/RPGs, most of which implement them much better. To us builder types, it's a waste of their development time, which obviously is limited. Time which would be better spent improving the building aspects of the game, which is unique to Minecraft.
I do have to admit that playing survival mode puts an interesting spin vs. creative/peaceful mode, by providing some focus on what and how to build. But by the frequent adventure changes, which have been partially implemented and bugged, it's left us builders who play survival mode in limbo.
So I've gone back to EQ2 for now, which makes the adventure/RPG aspects of Minecraft seem even more pitiful.
Put it this way.....theres a ton of games which act like the genre, but minecraft is the rpg where you can escape by blowing up blocks and running away from it. I've seen many games which imitate the behavior....(Haven and Hearth to be one, yeah thats a really messed up game on pking but its fun.).
I have to admit, the End and the Enderdragon is kind of getting...out of it. As the new changes in 1.9 are wild and radical...but they are good, most of it is. But It doesn't have a feel like an rpg (Because we dont have stats).
The problem is....and I find this the case, no one is going to be satisfied with everything...which goes to say...everyone is going to complain about one little feature and praise the rest. But overall the 1.9 features are impressive..
The thing is...I don't if the final version will be...thats the question Im sure on everyone's mind. If we already know whats going to be in the 1.9 update, whats so radical about the 1.10 or final?
In either case the amount of additions to the 1.9 is beyond most of the features of what 1.4 was to 1.5. It added a ton of stuff....more than any update. But it feels....unpolished. And its like we already know what the final version is going to be like due to this. Its a pre-release, but according to some players here...there will only be pre-releases until the full release, which is at MineCon.
Guys its not the game its how you play the game. Seriously I have 1.9.4 I was confused at first but once I stopped worrying about the updates and focusing on them I got back to building Redstone, buildings and stuff like that. I'm also happy about sprint and creative.
I have a lot more I can do besides dig. I have a lot more stuff I can put in my house now. I have a lot more mobs to kill, and better reasons to kill them. I can actually farm more than just wheat.
Seriously. If none if this is good for you, what kind of game would you like to play?
Cause I'm pretty sure it would be the most bland thing imaginable.
Personally, my opinion on the latest couple of updates (1.8, 1.9) is that they have a lot of interesting concepts, but are implemented very poorly overall.
Let me go ahead and say it now: I don't hate the "RPG" part of it. I quite like the idea behind some of the new features.
As I said, though, my issue is on implementation. Take the oceans of 1.8 for an example; I quite like the idea of having huge oceans to sail around in, but I'm not exactly enjoying having to constantly restart new games to avoid starting on a tiny deserted island with no resources. Or maybe you prefer the strongholds; absolutely love the idea of abandoned fortresses I an renovate and move into like some kind of evil overlord. The problem being that most of the strongholds I've found are pretty much a lost cause thanks to being consistently gutted by mineshafts.
The NPCs in 1.9 are another not-so-stellar example. When I've been playing with the Millenaire mod pretty much since I bought Minecraft, it's not exactly impressive to see the dumb-as-a-sack-of-bricks villagers that 1.9 has to offer.
Overall, I think the problem is that Notch is trying to cram too much into the game at once instead of focusing more on completing features.
Yeah, I'm not all that bothered about all of this new naff stuff as I have my copy of version 1.7.3. and that to me, is what I paid my money for. That was minecraft at it's best.
I remembered how you poured over threads a while ago about how you want the Enderman to be like 'this' and be like 'that' and how the game is boring without the Enderman and how the Enderman was the best thing to happen to Minecraft and yadda yadda...
Now you are playing 1.7.3 without the Enderman in it?
I must say, I'm not too impressed with the things I'm reading about 1.9. I think Id much rather see things heading towards mechanisms and building rather than mythical happy fantasy fairy land stuff. Who else agrees?
Pistons, 1 of the best things ever, keep going in that direction please...
Silk touch?, just the name sounds dumb. It's function, ok I see some use there but still not impressed. I'm picturing it as my favorite football team going 1-15, seasons over. Better luck next year.
I must agree with OP. Up to 1.7.3 the sandbox model of minecraft was something special and unique.
Some people say that Notch always intended to do this, but he didn't say it on the website or reviews, only tweets. Changing it towards RPG might be popular... but it is a complete betrayal of those who bought the old game.
Perhaps the solution will be to split the game one more time:
Creative
Survival (1.7.3 plus some of the features of 1.8/1.9)
Adventure (full 1.9)
You dont have to use the features that are in 1.9.x. Exp can just be stockpiled and not used for enchantments. There is no reason that you have to use it. same with the end. Same with enchantments and potions. Just dont use them if you wont want to. Having little experiance orbs shouldn't be too big of a deal to get used too.
As for food if you are that against it, either inv edit for unlimited food, or better MAKE A MOD FOR IT. Modding is easy in minecraft. If you want a feature removed design a mod that does it.

it adds very nice features to the game!!!
Like new, and bigger, biomes.
Strongholds, Ender and so forth...
Although i'd still very much like to see volcanoes...
>:sad.gif:
But it all seems like each thing they've added needs a lot more development. In terms of polishing up, and fleshing out the features.
For instance strong holds not getting ruined by caves or mine shafts.
NPC's need everything. Jobs, quests, day and night cycle, etc
Some way to leash or hold on to animals when crossing large pieces of terrain.
Etc

open source to boot.
But 1.9 is still nice. ALL of the additons being as good as 1.8 is... debatable though. At least in terms of quantity it was as big as 1.8.

definitely needs more mechanisms
Round 2?
Keep up the posts, thanks guys.
