* It sounds like there might not be another pre after 5 until they are ready to put out a "Release Candidate" later on.
** Someone has already reported still having the 100% CPU bug on a Macbook. :sad.gif: I haven't tested it yet myself.
[ Edit ]
A report of the problem still existing on Windows too...
* I'm starting to think Jeb may have only fixed the problem on the Server version, which is a good start but not enough... At least Jeb has been made aware of this.

For me this is the single Best piece of news regarding beta 1.9 yet!
I, and many other people have been worried about the near 100% constant CPU usage that beta 1.9pre brought with it, especially for the 1.9pre servers... Hosting companies will shut you down fast with that going on.
I must comment, I run a small 1.9PR4 server off my own computer here, standard vanilla settings and whatnot, and play MC on the same machine at the same time (1.9PR4 vanilla still). I have heard of this 100% CPU problem, and quite honestly, I have watched my CPU meters for all 8 cores and not one of them goes over 30% at any one time. Maybe it's the machine setup, but I have not encountered this...

Even still, better to have it fixed. :smile.gif:
I'm not sure what you're getting at. I run one too.. since 1.5 I've run my own server. I've never had this problem until 1.8.n. It's obvious that some computers, regardless of specs, have trouble with Minecraft. The server is no trouble to run, it was just MC1.8.n itself. I mean Jeb just mentioned the fix, so it's obvious there was a problem on their side. A problem that cause the uneasiness between MC and some people's computers.
Oct 18 is when they start the month long period of fixing bugs.
Exactly. notch decided not to release 1.9 per se, only pre-versions up until the official Release 1.0 during Minecon. Of course, he can always change his mind...
In any case, I agree with banr, pre5 should be released with this fix ASAP.

That's ********. That means nothing can update until November 18th.
amazing news, I will finally be able to play 1.9 come pre5.
Yeah, and if MCP decides to go ahead and do a version for the 1.9pre's, since there may never be an actual 1.9, I hope they at least wait for pre5 before doing it.

Yeah, Feature freeze is tomorrow, tuesday. So pre5 could have any new features added up until then. Any pre's after 5 should only have fixes, polish etc, at least per notches current decision. And yes, notch will be releasing pre's up until the full 1.0 release at Minecon (For "Advanced Users") Per notch's Blog.

Well, in case you didn't notice, 1.9pr1 was on September 22th, pr2 on 29th, pr3 on October 6th and pr3 on 13th. What had this dates in common? well, they're 4 consecutive thursdays. Who knows, maybe this thursday we'll have pr5.
In any case, they said they'll keep with the pre-releases until minecon, so, even if they freeze the code tomorrow and don't add any new stuff, they will probably keep releasing pre-releases with bugfixes so we can help them fix all the problems by November 18th. It's a possibility, since they never said that with the code freeze they would stop releasing versions.
From looking at my keyboard's CPU usage readout (LCD screen ftw), I'd typically get 100% CPU being in Minecraft under 1.9pre4, yes. Fallout New Vegas, with an assload of mods, for comparison, ran at about 40%.

Exactly! Thank you for that detailed comparison.
And DanSparrow; That's right. I'm really looking forward to pre5 now that Jeb says he's fixed that problem. And also; other than the inevitable bugs when this many features are packed in so fast, pre5 should be the first version with all of the Final minecraft features in it. :smile.gif: So I'm particularly glad jeb fixed that bug just now. Though I could also see notch deliberately keeping some features like the Dragon out of the pre's just so that there will be something you can only get with 1.0, heh heh. :wink.gif:
Depending on how stable pre5 turns out to be I could actually see MCP doing a release for it. < fingers crossed >

They try to get a new Pre out each week, but lets not count on it. Let them take their time and work on it then release a Pre worth testing.
This is good news indeed, my Quad here has NEVER gone 100% with Minecraft until now. To note I also run a server and MC on this computer and it can make issues occur at moment. Hope this pre5 kinda hurries to help sort out this issue with the high CPU usage. But good job Jeb, if any bug that causes most annoyance is CPU usage bugs or Memory leaks.

Well of course that depends on the PC resources, some people had 80%+ since 1.8 lol compared even to 1.7.3, MC has been requiring more and more resources with every new version.
Pre 5 has arrived.

Minecraft beta 1.9pre5 Server

So it will be fixed in pre5 when we get it.

I hate getting the message "100% usage in at least 1 CPU"
I have a fairly good computer as well...

The game itself was running a bit high on CPU usage but whenever I went back to the main menu from in game the CPU usage spiked like nobody business.
