There was going to be a 1.9, and 1.10 at one point. However Notch changed his mind, he posted on his blog ('world of notch', google it) that this is no longer the case. There will (as of current plans) never be a BETA 1.9, or higher.
All this time, since minecraft has existed, it has been in a series of test phases. indev, infdev, ALPHA, BETA. Each new phase starts back at 1.0.0. At minecon, Minecraft will be released as a full game. The price will jump up, and all the people who purchased it in prior versions will automatically get it. This will be Minecraft 1.0.0, not BETA 1.9, or 1.10.
Any wiki can (by definition) be edited by anyone who wants to edit it. And, like in SMP, there a griefers. As well as idiots who are ignorant. They can put as much misinformation on it as the smart people can put true things.
The forum (ideally) is a place for people to have discussions about something. In this case, Minecraft. Would it be nice if all the information was true? yes! is it? no.
The only way to get absolutely true info is to go to a trustworthy source, Notch's blog, his twitter and reddit. As well as jeb_'s twitter and reddit. Though in all honestly if notch says something in a way/context that it might be BS he is known to be a troll. You should really only trust thing he or jeb say directly and specifically. The world is full of BS, you just need to find the source with the least amount of it.
Thanks for saying what has been said atleast 20 times in this thread.
a bit off topic, but 1.10 is actually the correct number here. There is no 1.10, nor will there be a legit 1.9 it seems. But earlier in the year, it was mentioned that the update after 1.9 would be 1.10. These seems nonsensical at first, but remember, these are not decimal numbers, they are version numbers, the point is a separator, not a decimal. Just like the point in an IP address 192.168.1.1 for example is not the same as 192.168.1.10.
OT: It seems 1.9 will not happen as a full release, we will get pre-releases until Minecon. Any pre-release after Tuesday or whenever will consist only of bug fixes due to the feature lock. Once Minecon hits, the game will be released fully, and Mojang will go back to flushing out any missed content should it be needed.

Yes, but when Notch said that, he was talking about releasing a Beta 1.10, that's not what the real deal is going to be called. The first Alpha was 1.0, the first Beta was 1.0, and the real thing will be 1.0.

I'm aware, I just ment in patch order, 1.10 does indeed come after 1.9. Earlier in the thread I saw confusion about that. (I also failed to notice the thread was several pages long until after posting >.> no idea if what I said was even relevant anymore.)
I remember seeing the posts that said that there will be a code freeze on Oct 18 followed by only bug fixes until Minecon. Given that, it would make logical sense for 1.9 Beta to be released as they focus on the bug fixes.
But I see a lot of people thinking that it will be pre-releases all the way to Minecon. Was there a post/tweet stating so?
Similarly, a lot of people think that 1.10 is not happening. Was there a post/tweet on that?
Notch has joked about 1.10 for awhile now. I think that's why people are mentioning it. Has nothing to do with how version SHOULD be labeled because who is the one who decides HOW they should be labeled? Final release can be 5.5.6.2.1, w/e developer decides.
Funny to see so many wierd speculations being mistaken for truths
(1) Notch has already stated that there will be a version 1.10 and that this will most likely be the last version before Minecraft 1.0 (without the BETA tag).
(2) The socalled "code freeze" on the 18th relates to NEW CONTENT no longer being added as well as fixing existing code. We will still see new versions after the 18th.

LOL, great way to not truly read or understand the entire thread. Here, maybe this other thread OP with recent Tweet quotes straight from Jeb over-turning that old info might clarify this for you. I like your Avatar though. :smile.gif:
btw: I can't believe all this happened in this thread without it being my fault! Kudo's to you renadi for taking one for the team here. :biggrin.gif:
Oh yeah; in addition to the thread I linked, there is also notch's blog:
Up until then, instead of trying to squeeze in another real release, we’re going to do weekly (or so) pre releases, aimed at advanced players. We release these via twitter, so make sure to follow me (@notch) and Jens (@jeb_) if you’re interested in those.

Now , can you just let this thread die finally?
Why let it die? It was an excellent read, I even made popcorn!
ugh, 1.9 was going to be released and even 1.10 but Notch decided to just do pre releases until Minecon. Come on people this info is out there!!!!

Oh and the "moderator" is someone who works for Mojang and truly knows the release date?
I wish there would be a 1.9 release tomorrow, but sadly I don't think it will happen, based on what Notch has been saying on Twitter.
Pre-releases really suck too, because it is impossible to run a good server without CraftBukkit.
But I see a lot of people thinking that it will be pre-releases all the way to Minecon. Was there a post/tweet stating so?

"We'll do a 1.9 pre-release today, and a full release after feedback. More Adventure Mode content will come in 1.10, we're splitting it up!"
This was back in September though, so could have changed.
