Same thing with that rock in The End. I hacked an efficiency 500 diamond pick and all rocks except for obsidian and the rock in the end were instant mine.

wait...does this let something like...say a wooden pick mine diamond ore? O_O edit: got confused lol, i ment, does it let something like a wooden pick mine up ores it usually cant mine?
or is it (as i think) an awesome enchantment that lets me mine grass and stone and all sorts of blocks i would otherwise not be able to mine?
It's the second one. Blocks that change into something else when mined would retain their original form. For example, ice. Mine ice normally and it becomes a water source. Mine it with a silk touch pick, and it becomes a ice block entity for you to take and place anywhere.
You can burn diamond ore in furnace into regular diamond gems (but you waste coal then), but I think you can't with coal ore. Anyway, not so useful enchantment unless you need smooth stone for crafting buttons and pressure plates.
For water in the Nether.. I think it should be nerfed to not being able to flow over netherrack or lava.
That way, you can create an oasis in the Nether but still be limited. I don't want to be able to just pour water in the lava to create obsidian. Yes, it be very handy but I'd assume could also happen accident and thus, screw up your nether basis.
I've once, long ago, heard somebody suggest that obsidian, when in contact with lava, should 'melt' back into lava. Like grass spreads onto dirt, lava spreads onto obsidian.
That would work aswell. "Oh crap! I flooded the lava pool! Oh well, it'll change back sooner or later"
Besides, why would we need the Nether for our obsidian mining, there is plenty of lava in the overworld at level 10.
And yes, I do want to pick up ice with pickaxes... I want to make redstone-floors... I want to make a room full of the 'grass-like' block found in mushroom biomes. I want it all.
Silk touch brings back the sandbox feeling of 'do whatever you want'
woulndt that cause in the nether a variation of the leaf decay lag? if it has to check if obsidian is touching lava, other then that it would be pretty cool
Is it okay for me to gather as many pig spawners as possible with silk touch before they patch this or would you consider it exploitive? I did spend 6 hours getting the enchantment legitly
Since it was already announced to going to be fixed it makes it a bug, therefore using it will be an exploit.

Feel free if you to ^ my posts if you find them helpful.
Axes are also good for wooden stairs. Not to mention picks for stone stairs! Goodness, annoying losing your stair blocks for misplacing them.
What is the lowest level you've seen this enchant at? I saw someone get it at 13...
EDIT: trouble is, that would mean that all obsidian blocks would need a state, but not exactly like a farm block (which is just a dirt block in a different state, which is why it isn't movable with silk touch) and how would that work? I guess the obsidian would 'grow' like seeds at a kind of random (or regular rate) and when it was about to turn back into lava it would glow red? Still, that means every obsidian block needs to potentially have state information, and check for adjacent lava.
EDIT x2: It would be nice though, especially if it meant that rain would cool surface lava, given that it would heat back up if the pool was deep enough.
For making something with silk touch, the least amount of experience needed on average is level 12 on gold tools (and you're expected to get one silk touch tool for every 24 made), 20 on iron tools (1 silk touch tool for every 13 made), and 21 on diamond tools (1 silk touch tool for every 13 made).
Those are just the expected amount tho, it could take many more or less, or never if you're super unlucky.

Still no infinite strongholds D:
That's what I'm hoping to get. You can get grass blocks and mycelium (the mushroom biome "grass") with that. What level enchantment was that?

NBTEdit
Anyone tried mining cakes, double slabs, burning furnaces?
Yep, works. I have lit furnaces lighting up my dungeon due to Silk Touch.
huh, do they still work if you try to use them or do they reset?
Not quite sure actually. I assume that they would reset, so I never tried (cuz I didn't feel like replacing them again if they did turn back).
alright, still could make a lot of decorative pieces with ever burning stoves, and I'd be fine as long as you couldn't actually use them.
Yeah, they're VERY cool for decoration. Which is what I did ^^.

Nah, it's possible to turn Glowing RSO into normal RSO by touching it, unlike how Burning Furnaces work. (You can have a Burning Furnace forever)
redstone ore blocks should be craftable, and conductive, for vertical redstone transfer.
Only used for Bookcases I believe.
