I just thought I'd get a gauge on which of the two types of baby animal model people prefer.
Earlier in the year, a modder called Cocoavalley submitted their "baby animals" mod (which may be found here), complete with code and baby animal models, to Mojang. It seems, however, that it's gone unused, since the recent snapshots from Notch indicate he's made some completely different models.
Notch's baby animals:
Cocoavalley's baby animals:
I think I personally prefer the latter. It's no biggie though - I'll probably wait until the final version of Minecraft has been released, and then use Cocoavalley's mod to replace the babies. :tongue.gif: (So yeah, this topic is also a reminder that the mod will still probably be around, for those who dislike the current state of baby animals!)
I like the mod babies more. I don't envy Notch's position. He can't exactly make anything similar. Because half of the people on this board would *****, "He copied!" and when he does something like this, "They're ugly!"
Want the baby chicks, don't give a damn about the rest.

I used the baby animal mod since I joined these forums. I do love that mod, it let me have little animals which were adorable. I actually remember people complaining on the thread that they were TOO cute(especially since they dropped items! Uhh lambs dropped bones! Haha)
The big headed animals for the legit game is also cute to me, in a funny/adorable way. I think it fits with the goofy side of minecraft perfectly, and I have no problem using it! Animals in minecraft are already PRETTY silly looking, it makes sense that their babies would be silly looking as well!
I assume when the game comes out there will be a mod update that allows the skins to be changed to that baby animal mod, and possibly other versions as well!
I'm kind of excited about the textures that will be made for these funny big headed babies. They are cute in the weirdest way.
To be honest, I'm torn, I may vote for the mod because it IS cuter. But I may vote for Notch's, because think the baby animals already in the game look just fine, and I will probably just use them. I don't have an issue with them, they aren't as 'traditionally cute', they are more 'adorably funny looking' which is a style I like.
Plus, if they stayed that cute as the mod was, I'd never do anything else in minecraft but make animals have babies. In fact, while I had the mod, all I did was collect and farm little baby animals. Seriously. XD
Edit: Honestly, I voted for Notch's. But I wish I could both for both!
Because they're completely different models, not just textures.
Barely, just the head size is bigger by a bit. All a texture pack needs to do is transparent certain areas of the head, like they did with the NPC noses.
Cant really judge a single static image with only two animals, one of which you cant even see the face.
Cant hear them and cant see them move.
Whereas you are comparing it to a finished work that you can actually experience.
Yeah, it is only a rough gauge. Then again though, I am only comparing screenshots to show off the models at this stage - just assume that they have the same behaviour! :tongue.gif:

Hmm, I think we're going to have to agree to disagree on that one! I see quite a radical difference in body proportions between the two types of models.

That doesn't make sense. The nose was a seperate object, so making it transparent made it invisible. You try making some of the baby textures transparent and you could have floating squares, not a smaller head.
The chicks are cute, but the pig and cow aren't. They have these little beady eyes and squished faces...

At least he tried. And I agree entirely on the chicks being the only good part about it.
As a sidebar, we should be able to breed wolves. But they give birth to 4-9 puppies. There is a chance that some are stillborn, you are forced to drown the runt in a bucket of water, and the mom may try to eat one or two of them to keep it balanced.

I believe only making part of the texture transparent would solve the problem, not making the entire model transparent. Such as:

No, because they are still fitting on the same model space. So if you delete areas all it does is make holes.

I still prefer the look of the mods.
This.
If he used the mod version or even something similar it will be like pistons all over again. People plead and beg to have them in the vanilla version, and then when he adds them people call him a copy-cat. Obviously not the same group of people, but still

The sheep and the wolf are the cutest thing ever!

I prefer the mod babies but you are right about the eyes, the texture needs a little work.

Its a cube. Not a square. Unless they are doing things ina very bizzar way, making the texture smaller on a cube does not make the cube smaller.
I might be wrong then. I was assuming from NPC nose removal, I am not a texture maker. You're most likely correct.
