Well, looks like we got some new potions with this prerelease. The potion of regeneration is made with ghast tears now, and instant health is made with glistering melons, which is made by putting a gold nugget and a water melon together. I also heard of some sort of weaponized potions, but I have yet to confirm.
I'm rather disappointed with how simplified potions have become. It's no longer a system that makes me want to jump in and start experimenting due to how few combinations there are.
OK I've been messing with potions and all I can make are potions that make me stronger, faster, heal, resistant to fire. I see other potion effects in those screen shots. Are they in the current pre release or are those screen shots some kinda sneak peak? If they're in the game right now, can someone tell me how to make a breath under water potion and an invisible potion.

They aren't possible now. They were possible in pre2, and you can hack in those effects.
GOD! People CAN throw weapons as generates, i have seen poison(spider eye) Instant damage(spider eye + a fermented spider eye) weakness(fermented spider eye), fire resistance and all other effects. You can only add gunpowder to a tier 2 instant damage if you have made it first(?Nether wart + Spider Eye + Fermented Spider Eye + Glowstone Dust + Gunpowder. Elmach, you are incorrect, and Elmo I have included the potions for you. Fyreweaver, i also included the recipe for tier 2 Splash Instant Damage.
I'd be fine if it work as it does now, but I'd be disappointed if brewing becomes A+B=C considering there was already such a good foundation for it. I'm still hoping the cauldron is going to work alongside the brewing stand, but that is likely optimism.

Lol yeah, I definitely wouldn't expect it, idk, I had no complaints with the old system, and if they just plopped it in the brewing stand with a gui I'd be perfectly satisfied, maybe give ingredients properties for showing how they actually work, give the different bits names in game and then we could figure out recipes scientifically.
Has anyone else noticed that instant damage and poison dont work on all mobs?
-Spiders-
Immune to poison
-Zombies/Skeletons-
Immune to poison
Immune to instant damage
-Endermen-
Dodge instant damage
Is this intentional?
Also, I think the new system is much better than the old one. Cauldrons seem kinda pointless now though.
given that these would all have to be coded special I'm certain it's intentional, except possibly on the account of Endermen, though maybe that's just wishful thinking on my part.
There is absolutely no way the new system even compares to the old, even if simply because they haven't even put in most of the potion recipes yet.

There we go!
Umm...
My post was made before 1.9 prerelease 4, or before grenades. I did not say that you cannot make poison, instant damageharming, weakness, fire resistance, instant health, swiftness, slowness, regeneration, or strength (well, maybe regeneration, but THIS WAS BEFORE PRE4) potions. These are the only effects you can gain from potions AS OF PRERELEASE 4.
EDIT: I meant from potions, not without hacks. Hunger is possible without hacks.
For the record, and I can't be bothered to check if this was stated before, but distilling gunpowder into any potion makes it a throwable one, and creates an area of effect where it lands.
It seems like Jeb is making potions brewable without nether warts. Now all he needs to do is make the effecting reagents do stuff with the mundane and thick potions
I guess I have to add melons, nuggets, and gunpowder to my potion ingredients chest.I am loving the options we're getting!

Thank you so much for that clearification.
