I completely support the idea of a ridiculously complex potion brewing system. It looks simple enough that anyone can quickly brew a basic potion, but complex enough to keep people working for hours to make the ultimate mix. I hope it won't be changed much before the full release.
I might post a link to the modified files in awhile If i can, the edited files I'm using were made by a friend and I'm not sure if he wants me to hand them out or have his name strapped to them, I'll ask if I see him around but till then I'm just gonna wait.
However the code change isn't that big so if anyone else wants to front the responsibility of making the change and posting it I'll happily edit the link into the OP.
If you're wondering why I don't just edit a copy myself, I don't really want to steal his credit either unless he deems it fair, but, if anyone else just -happens- to figure it out, I wouldn't feel very guilty at linking their implementation.
I found a speed 1 potion with a 13 minute timer so they can get higher. The max natural timer seems to be 27:17 which comes from sticking the max short int value (32767) in the duration data on the effects data. You can push it further but then the timer display goes all crazy.
Well, assuming that those are the only ingredients, and there are no random factors...
There are seven primary potions and fifty-six secondary potions.
I'm going to call these the "first 63".
Highest time I've seen was on Invisibility (13:00). Desperately trying to find a level 3 or higher Jump Boost pot, but it's bloody difficult with over 2 billion possibilities :sleep.gif:.
If it does go to that I'm sure someone will figure out how it works and then just bruteforce to the integer cap and pick the best ones. If they made it depend on map seed or something else random then it might make a bit more sense. But if you can just look up the best potions on the wiki I think it's unnecessary complexity.
OMG YES love this idea. and hide the effects for anyone that didn't make it.

That's what I assumed as well, it seems to relate somewhat to the "height" of the value towards the bounds of the integer, of course the bits only seem to go in small amounts like 7-8 an ingredient, so getting that high may take hundreds of ingredients to make such a long duration.
I'm just waiting until I can weaponize poison potions. Like, poison arrows.
Yeah, if this was added I'd love a way to mask potion effects and apply potions to weapons, not just poisons either xD maybe you could even apply them to staves of some kind, or sticks and becoming a support character, whack someone with your stick doing 1 damage but insta-healing/HOT for more. or buffs haha, speed stick!
So how do the names work? Are there names for EVERY type of potion or just the general type of potion?
There's a list of different "buzzwords" that it attaches to each potion, things like Mundane, Sparkling, Elegant, they're also split up by color. There obviously isn't really a color combo and name combo for every possibility though, many of them will end up sharing the name so you'll have to judge potions by their listed effects and recipe.

You mean 7 potions with a single ingredient and 56 with two?
You'll just get hurt with a level 3 Jump potion ;P those things are dangerous I tell you.
Also, here's a hilarious one:
That sure is harsh!
As long as you land on something that is the height you jumped minus 3, you won't take damage (at least from my experience playing the Aether mod with the blue aerclouds)

Haha I've played around with those effects. I gave myself a speed buff with an 11 amplitude and tried sprinting. Your FOV gets pushed so far the world turns upside down. You can do the same with jump and at about amplitude 18 you jump so high you die landing.
agreed, looking at the work stations some of these mods let you create, entire rooms of industry, it's amazing haha
off topic, @theUSpopulation, your sig, I like it.

OMG that is beautiful! lol
I found Resistance II to be godmode. You can jump 50 blocks and take ~8.5 hearts of damage from it.
