I disagree about humor in general. Minecraft could use a lot of humor, it just depends on what type of humor that is. Shroomcows, for instance, are just plain delightful. There should be no limit for humor, only a quality standard.
I can agree on that, some fantasy-like gameplay can still be present. I really don't mind mooshroom cows or large mushrooms, I wouldn't prefer them in the overworld, but it doesn't bother me one bit. But these other additions are a little out of hand, even if it is to entertain the young ones.
Short version: Minecraft is a joke because there aren't any baby animals. Go play Farmville.
I don't know about you, but I think if anyone knows what the theme of Minecraft is supposed to be, it's Mojang. Maybe you had a different idea, maybe others as well, but obviously Notch passes his ideas on to the other members of Mojang for their input, and if they think it fits their idea of the theme of Minecraft, they it goes in. Besides, it's not like you are forced to make Snow Golems if you think they are a joke, but you should see what people have done with them.
You're complaining because of an useless, non-game-breaking option! I hope you realize how stupid that sounds.
I like the villagers, though I, too, was expecting the regular player models to be used. The design of the villagers make they seem like different civilization, who have already settled, and leaves a small sense that you are still "alone". Anyways, just wait for a mod, I'm pretty sure there have been village mods done already.

It's embarrassing when mods are generally better than the actual game.
Then add mods if you don't have the imagination to have fun with what the game provides.. I feel really sad for you, your obviously a troll who is starting to believe his own rants..
Spore is another game where all animals hatch from eggs, and it works fine. From a gameplay design perspective, there's a lot you can do with, for instance, square minecraft eggs that the player will have to protect for a short period of time. Don't know if they're actually going to be implemented like that, but I'm not that worried. As long as breeding is implemented and I can get my ranch started up! :smile.gif:
Is it me, or is there just a little too much humor going to be present in minecraft when 1.9 comes out? I don't believe Notch is taking it seriously what-so-ever and it's just going to kill my experience in minecraft, a game which had much potential and respect. Instead of convincing people to buy the game now, I'm telling them to wait because I don't feel Notch is at the right state of mind at the moment. Humor is appreciated but not so much as in to ruining the general quality of the game.
Jokes in Patch 1.9
Snow Golem
- Renamed to escalate the joke.
- Made only because he was "frustrated".
- Could of been working on another mob, like a baby animal.
- Doesn't fit the theme of minecraft at all.
NPCs
- Look graphically bad when compared to the rest of minecraft.
- Have a humorous look that makes you not even take a village seriously or the game for that matter.
- Jeb stated that they are not planning on changing their look anytime soon.
Animal Breeding
- All animals will come from eggs because Notch thinks it's funny.
- Somehow I believe this isn't a joke because we all thought the snowman was and look what happened.
- Notch is most likely doing this because he's too lazy to introduce baby animals, which is a big disappointment.
I will admit the Snow Golem is somewhat of a joke, but the NPCs I believe are intentionally made to look like that. If we had a bunch of Steve clones inhabiting the villages, it would kind of ruin the isolated feel of minecraft.
As with the animal breeding, just because he tweeted that doesn't mean he's done. Don't go and start attacking him about it, who said he's done with it yet? He's just testing ideas out, this game's in Beta for god's sake. Just chillax and wait for the complete version.
Ironically, the amount of folks that will jump down your neck for a post like this is quite astounding when you think about it. Okay, we all know this is a beta version of a game, yet implementing things such as a snow*MAN* which will have about as much use as a chocolate fire guard in the dead of winter is like lighting the fuse to a stack of dynamite in a natural occurring pool of gasoline. Come on notch, give us something relevant, not something a five year old will enjoy for five minutes..
Sorry, just my opinion.
Aww poor guy cant think of useful things to do with random items, go see the wizard of oz maybe he'll give you a brain..

It's quite funny it's like...
1) I shouldn't have an opinion.
2) I must worship all of Notch's work.
3) I gotta watch out with my negative feedback because Notch can stop working the game at any moment. :laugh.gif:
It's embarrassing when mods are generally better than the actual game.
How is that sad, it means that someone say a way to improve the game the way they wanted and instead of sitting and whining until someone comes along and ruins the entire game for the people like what they did..

Are you afraid of change? Do you hate challenge? Do you know what would happen if there were no new additions to the game? ... You sir, are a fool
You missed his point completely. He never argued against implementing new elements to the game, only that said elements be a little more mature than the current offerings. I'm inclined to agree. I think mooshrooms are ridiculous, and the very idea that cows, pigs and sheep will be spawned through eggs angers me. We, as a supporting community that made Minecraft into the cult hit that it is today, deserve better.
I play Minecraft standing on the roof of my house with a laptop, completely naked, the wind lapping at my hair and genitals. It is very refreshing. The neighborhood watch loves me.
Are multiple threads really necessary to state your opinion or make your point across? We get it now. You think that the snow golem was made for a joke, the NPC's look ugly, blah blah blah. You only need to make one thread, sheesh.
Really, I don't think Notch was joking when he added those. The NPC's do look ugly, but you really should try using snow golems as sentries or test dummies. In fact, if you're been :SSSS:'d multiple times in a cave while trying to mine diamond, try building a snow golem the next time you see one.
Also, about what I said earlier, something tells me you're spamming the forum with virtually identical treads because you're just sour about the lack of a table block.

Still don't see that as joking. He just says it would be fun.

Like I've said before, every day Notch becomes more and more like George Lucas.
A lazy, unimaginative businessman.
That's West Virginia. Scary people with banjos, so always travel with Burt Reynolds and give him a bow and arrow.
It's embarrassing when mods are generally better than the actual game.
Plus they look annoyingly stupid.

How do you see that as a confirmed fact?
And the snowmen are useful if you use brains. Go watch Etho's video on them. Lot's of great stuff there.
How is that sad, it means that someone say a way to improve the game the way they wanted and instead of sitting and whining until someone comes along and ruins the entire game for the people like what they did..
Well, no way to please the troll.
I'm sure what goes in the toilet can be found useful too.

You people are worthless. Having an opinion different to yours does not make someone else a troll. Way to stifle debate and constructive criticism.
