Might be a cool addition, but 99% of people would hate it, and it might get annoying, but here goes.
I've always been one who loved the challenges and survival aspects of minecraft, and I have thought about some way that caves could collapse, but still keeping it balanced.
So, after 10 mins without support, and player made caverns or caves would fall though or 'cave in'.
Support columns would just be wooden planks connecting the ceiling to the floor, and each column would cover 10-20 roof blocks from falling through.
I know everyone will hate this, and I probably would too, but it might be a cool addition for a 'hardstyle survival' difficulty.
I don't know, but eh... Just writing whatever comes to mind here.

I've been working on a Warcraft mod an incredibly long time. Just you wait, people.
It can't be implimented without affecting natural cave systems. Also the 10 minute time limit is based on what? rooms, entire caves, per block? ... it sounds way too harsh to program.
I shouldn't say "can't"... just way too difficult to do appropriately and not worth the time.
Also... When did the 1.9 forum become a suggestion forum?
