I was exploring around, enjoying finding swamps, ravines and such when a idea came to me. Whats one thing you hear in swampy/marshy areas that is missing from minecraft? Crickets and other insect sounds, its more of a ambient/atmosphere thing but it'd help set the tone well enough for the area you're in.
In other non marshy areas, a thing we're really missing in other biomes are things like birds. They don't even have to be something we interact with, maybe they could be something that flies from tree to tree making birdcalls. Something pleasing visually and something we can hear to enhance the effect of being in nature a little more. Can't be harder to implement than rain, we don't interact with it but we hear it.
The next is more of a need than a suggestion in MY opinion, submersibles.
I was boating along earlier trying to find a stronghold, mineshaft or something of the sort when I saw a light on the bottom of the ocean. Low and behold I found a ocean-bottom mineshaft or so I believed. I got to the bottom and found it closed off, I was about to drown so I tried to swim back up. But I found I was caught in a undertow. I drowned 1500+ blocks out without taking a pic of my whereabouts, my fault I know. Though, I couldn't help but think what would have happened had I a submersible vessel that I could enter and exit while underwater. We have complicated redstone systems, pistons mechanisms. Why not small subs? Heck the crafting takes care of itself. Put glass panes in a bubble shape over a boat U shape.
Sorry if these have been suggested before just thought I'd give my two cents.
