I suggest that there is some sort of ore added, that takes a diamond pick to obtain it. This ore when smelted then can be crafted into some sort of machine, that when you right click it, you can put your weps, tools, etc. in and they will repair. It also would take redstone as "fuel".
Only very few simple changes are needed:
-Leviathans in the lava oceans that sometimes jump up to grab and eat a ghast or you
-One new type of nether plants (preferably stuff that spreads over the ground, walls and floors, but DOESN'T hang like vines, some sort of fungi colonies).
-Netherstone pillars that look like they were made by zombie pigmen to prevent the place from collapsing on their heads and releasing even eviler evil on them
Hellstone ore, puts you on fire when you step on it, and can be mined only with a diamond pick, when crafted with obsidian, becomes a hellstone bar.
Then use that to make more powerful tools(Flaming sword, molten pickaxe, molten armor etc.).
Because Minecraft needs to copy Terraria some more. We're already getting a mushroom biome that looks very similar to the corruption, but this is just blatant.

In the Nther they need to add some kind of nether-specfic items like new NETHER ORES, besides the regular stuff just glowstone, soul sand, and netherack add some new features like some kind of nether tree (for nether tool specifics such as for makign special sticks for the base of tools) more ores to amke it more interactive i only go to the nether for netherack (never ending fire) and glowstone so overall its boring in the nether, the nether should be more interactive not just like what 3 blocks...? ores, trees, more mobs whatever just want a more interactive nether
the ghast should be slightly less common. they're actually a pretty tough mob if you don't abuse the baseball bat technique with their fireballs. they make doing anything out in the open in the nether next to impossible. taking them down legit with arrows can really drain on your resources when they stay so far away. ALTHOUGH, charged arrows may make this a totally different situation, i haven't tried it. but my favorite moments with ghasts have always been when there's just one or two roaming around behind the cliffs making their little crying noises and i'm trying to do something quickly because they could find me at any moment - and when they find me it's like my worst nightmare coming true.
basically if you spend more than 5 minutes in the nether you should have encountered a ghast at some point, either face to face or nearby, but they shouldn't be all over the place making the nether just plain irritating.
there should be some more typical mobs that get up in your face. there don't have to be a ton, but something for variety, that doesn't spawn in huge groups but dotted all around. something that behaves similarly to the silverfish would definitely be appropriate, some kind of hellworm. especially if silverfish only occur in strongholds.
i don't have enough imagination to come up with a new unique mob for the nether, everything i'd come up with would basically be a biome-specific re-skin. but there should probably be at least one more mob with unique behavior.
as for other stuff, i dunno. there should probably be more variety in the landscape generation. definitely some kind of biome-specific "vegetation" or mineral formations or something, to make the place look more alien. uses for glowstone dust would be nice. as well as at least one or two other valuable resources that have to be dug around for (glowstone is easy to spot and netherrack is every****ingwhere so why would i spend a lot of my time digging around in the nether? other than sheer boredom i mean?) zombie pigmen are probably fine. i dunno if they should occur in villages the same way overworld NPC's will, but maybe they could construct temporary nomadic dwellings, then move on after a minimum amount of time has passed? just an idea, i'm not married to it. but it would be cool if they had some kind of terrain generation algorithm built into their behavior, so they actually moved netherrack around to make their little rock huts. something that could, by the way, be adapted to endermen so they actually built something when they moved blocks around (although it would be creepier if endermen built abstract geometric shapes of some kind.)
actually while i'm on the subject of endermen, they could spawn in the nether too. that's the one case where i think an overworld mob should also be in the nether.
all in all, i don't think the nether needs to be like a whole fully-fleshed out alternate version of the overworld. but it does need some work. i don't see much point in going to it, other than to spend hours harvesting glowstone dust that isn't very useful.
New mobs is kind of an obvious one, but it's a must in my opinion.
I would like new ores that give different ABILITIES not different durability to tools. So all the Nether Ores have the same durability, but different upgrades and abilities to tools or weapons.
Minecart as boats, is what I want most I think.
If not new ores, than at least lots of new blocks.
Evil Villages?
Ruins?
Not sure if I really like those last two ideas, but I wouldn't mind them.
I think it'd be pretty cool to see naturally-generated portals to exclusive other places in the Nether which contain rooms with chests of various treasures.

here's what i would like to see in the Nether. Keeping in mind this is a whole new realm, it should have a lot of similarities and dissimilarities to the main world.
+ a nether from of stone. might make tools that are stronger then normal stone, but weaker then iron.
+ A nether metal. most likely as common as iron ore, but slightly stronger in use of tools.
+ A nether type of diamond. maybe crystal in nature. Should be reddish with black swirls inside of it. As strong or stronger then diamond. might also be cool for decorative purposes as blocks.
+ Pig men villages in the nether.
+ Forts and strong holds in the nether. Gothic styled architecture.
+ nether vegetation including tree like objects as well as food like plants.
+ Lava fish.
+ other flame based mobs. mobs that play off the fire motif.
+ other types of nether biomes. things like lava ocean, netherack hills, corruption Forests, and crystal fields (these crystals are not to be confused with the diamond counter part.)
+ crystal formations that give of crystal shards, a unique form of glass material used in a slew of new crafting recipes.
+ Demonic bosses.
Heres my list that will ruin the game if they add:
- New ores(We dont need more ores!)
- Ruins(No, just no)
- Trees(This is nether not earth)
Something they should add list
- New mobs(Not devils or something we think when we say hell, something more minecrafty)
After that i dont know.... I really want something that we dont think about.
sorry to flame, but are you stupid?
The nether is boring and virtually empty. Its so easy to survive and all you get is the few nether materials. Ores would make it worth digging around in the nether.
You have to be dumb to disagree with ruins. It would add some mystery to the nether and there would be somthing to look for. Trees are iffy, but If it was a nether tree made out of some cool nether materials, maybe obsidian, lightstone and other stuff, then it would fit the nether great. I would like nether trees if they were made of nether materials, and not logs & leaves. New mobs are something that are always great to get.

Well, you have got to remember, people are not playing minecraft because there's not many ores or things to do. I know that 1.8 has added some nice things, but ruins would be nice. the Nether and Earth needs something to spice it up. I myself am getting bored of minecraft becuase theres the same old ores. But i would like to see more things with gold and lapiz. That would be greate

Better yet, hellish ruins with aggro zombie pigmen

YES
Satin? You think the nether should contain satin? That's an odd thing to add to the Nether...
