My laundry list of wants. Please feel free to list yours as well, as I hope mine will inspire some ideas!
1. Waterwheels- With talk of adding a current to rivers, I am forced to ask why? All content should serve a gameplay objective (not that mojang developes this way). Why not utilize this current to harvest power?
2. As an addendum to number 1, Power generators- Waterwheels (already partially explained), windmills and solar generators. It is silly to have glowstone torches make endless power in a game that draws it's chief gameplay elements from harvesting and managing resources. What I would like to see is the addition of transmission rods and universal joint blocks that can be hooked up to windmill blades/water wheels and used to generate power via a craftable generator block hooked to the wheels by the rods/universal joints. This way, you could have windmill blades on any shape tower you like as opposed to having a single "craftable windmill" object. As a bonus, maybe you could also have a grinder block that could replace the generator block for some windmills to actually mill crops into flour for use in bread and cakes. As for the solar power, I would like to see this be biome specific and crafted out of obsidian. It should take a lot to equal the power of windmills since it would be fairly easy to make.
3. Greater variety of food recipies- self explanitory.
4. Pumpkin seeds generated much like melon seeds- I want MORE farming options. The more this game resembles harvest moon the more I like it. XD DOnt limit pumpkins to an every now and then experience due to seeds being rare. And for that matter, PUMPKIN PIES! crafted with grain on the bottom three, mashed pumpkin in the middle three, and, for a few extra hearts, milk on the top three for a whipped cream variety.
5. Underwater breathing aparatus- We have the promise of an ocean biome and 1.8 delivered deeper trenches. The problem is, it was somewhat useless even before as it would take half your breath just to get to the bottom of oceans before the depth change. We need craftable air helmets, made from glass. (Although I am aware of the pumpkin helmet/underwater breathing mod) I would like to add that there should be things underwater that make it worth going down there. We have all made our underwater bubbles to build houses in, but the sea floor could be a place we would want to actually go out and explore for resources.
6. More craftable devices to supplement the power generators- Pistons were a step in the right direction but they are entirely too limited in scope. I would love to see crafting elevated to an art form. Pistons should be one craftable element of even more complex devices. We have this wonderfully complex electrical system at our disposal and all it really is good for is opening doors. What a shame!
7. Lights that can turn on and off with switches/redstone-self explanatory.
8. Water pumps/Pipes- A craftable pump that you place in water that you can then connect pipes to for indoor plumbing! Maybe make it like redstone for added challenge so that you have to have an additional pump every 15 spaces. I don't think it's really necessary to have the pump deplete the water source it's placed in, though I wouldn't be opposed to it. We all use endless pools now anyway, but I feel the pumps would lend to more crafting and more variety in water usage. Maybe even have blocks that behave as spigots that can be turned on and off with switches/redstone.
If you read through my want-list, thank you! Most of them were focused on craftable items as I have long felt crafting is the most under developed element of this game. We have plenty of resources to gather, and the mentioned electrical system, but so little to do with them. Ultimately, the reason I find myself going back to farming time and again is farms are some of the only structures you can build in this game that have a purpose AFTER they're built. You must tend them and then they produce more goods for you. The windmills and water wheels would be similar in that you have a structure built that serves a purpose after the fact for power generation/grain milling.
I really like all of these ideas! I hope mojang take some of them into account!
:laugh.gif: Thank you! I'm pretty sure Notch has publicly stated that he's opposed to having technology in minecraft...which is a weird thing to say, but I cannot find a link to the comment anywhere. So...maybe my brain just made that up. It happens.
Anyone want to share their wish list? I like to read about what people hope to find in the game.

I love this! I make kitchens for my houses. It would look nice if I could have a sink instead of the endless water thing.
I make huge grinders, myself. I envisioned pipe mazes tangling along the outside of my structure and set on risers across a complex to give it that "industrial" look. Probably wont happen, but meh, I can dream.
Since no one else added ideas, I'll add one more.
9. Elevators/Pullies- These are sorely missing from the game, in my little opinion. I envision rope elevators, like ropes slung over pullies and attached to planks to stand on. Would be fun to add chests on them to lift up your loot to people waiting on the surface to sort and store, as well. I would love to use them in houses and factories as well. I like making grand stair wells, but sometimes I wish I had that compact, express option. I'm sure the more creative types out there would find all kinds of other uses for pullies besides simple elevators. Ideally, there would also be craftable motor blocks that the ropes were attached to at the top, like automatic pullies so we could rig up redstone wiring for them. If there's anything more fun than elevators in minecraft, it's automatic elevators.
Sounds like you want the Better than Wolves mod in the game. While some of the stuff is nice it won't be added because the mod insults notch and would you add something to your game that insults you?

I'm vaguely aware of the mod but I know nothing about why it would insult Notch. Frankly, Notch is running a business and I would hope he keeps his personal feelings in check. Being lead around by your heart is a pretty poor business practice.
i think elevators would be a great idea :smile.gif: also why dont they make more mobs!!!!!! the other ones are so boring everyone just gets mo creatures!!!!!!!

Oh, alright. I just looked up the mod and saw what was said. Sorry, but I agree. Especially in this last year, a great deal of minecrafts "updates" have been frivolous. Wolves are cute, I guess. Maybe they shouldn't be so mouthy about it, but I often wonder if Notch is in a George Lucas style yes-man bubble where no one closest to him really challenges him. He's had some great ideas. He's had equally as many freaking god awful ideas. All of it seems to end up in the game. Off topic, yeah, but tough.

I would love more mobs too. But, I hope they go easy on that until we get to see how badly persistent mobs is going to screw the multiplayer community. I've stated in another thread that I fear this feature will slice the number of servers out there in half due to each player now needing stables of animals to reliably gather wool, meat and leather. Many servers already do not allow mob farms for the reason that they cripple the hardware en-mass. And to be honest, my favorite SMP experiences have almost universally been away from the big name servers out there. I'm hoping that there's some coding witchcraft out there that will make the mobs easier on things, but I'm not educated in such matters.
Don't see how the better than wolves mod is disrespecting. The mod author decided to, you know, instead of moaning baselessly like a 6 year old not having his way, do something about it. It's a good mod on top of that, so really, the ideas posted here would be a great inclusion to minecraft, would be a pain to get it all working but would be amazing
I tend to agree, but you have to handle these Mojang fanboys with kiddie gloves or their blood pressure will rise and their fingers will spew virulent hatred. Not saying flyingchihuahua is one. I just don't know him/her so I'm being amicable about it.
Not sure the limited power source is practical as it would mess up redstone wiring and you could just put a water wheel in a man-made stream to get infinite power anyways. Alternatively, using the water wheel as a sort of "powered-if-this-stream-is-running IF gate" might make a bit more sense
how about bodyguards that r upgradeable(but u can only take 2 with u at a time).or maybe a starter house loaded with treasures.and we definetly need more plants and mobs.that would be kool.and a new block:'ice-cream'(cums in different flavours).im tryin 2 fit all my ideas in 1 message so sorry if u dont want it long but hope u read this.ummmmm...ill post more when i think of it.thought of 1:just add all the animals from mocreatures on the normal version and how about this new plant:THORNS (deadly)u would be able 2 make traps out of them.new item.:drinks.every1 goes on bout gettin hungry, wat about gettin thirsty.also add a new mob for the nether.OMG I have a lot of ideas but i cant think straight.vehicles.a button that makes ur seed 4 ur world an ip address so u can play online with friends.a television.u know how when u put stuff in the furnace and u goto sleep and wen u wake its still not done, maybe change that.flying zombiepigman.more achievements maybe.obsidian tools.higher jump.more pictures(paintings).trees fall down when u cut the bough.SHELVES.DEFINITLY SHELVES!!pls comment if u like any ideas of mine thx

Well, I don't disagree that it would be nice to have finite or limited power sources, but I don't think it's necessary. The idea isn't to include some misguided sense of "realism" to the game more than it is to create a gameplay dynamic that encourages you to gather and build structures that are actually useful. It would give more of a boost to the under utilized crafting aspect of the game and build upon that Maslow's Hierarchy thing the game has going.
Most of my ideas are more about the top of the Hierarchy as I feel the game has well implemented the lower tiers. You start out simple, tending to the basic needs of shelter, safety and hunger, then improve a bit, then collect more for your comfort and vanity. The upper stage in the game is tragically missing. Industrial technology to handle power, digging etc, is the logical progression and very easy to utilize in a game like this. But it really needs to be native. (No disrespect to the modding community. Those guys have done more for this game than Mojang has, in my little opinion.)
@ Reko9999- I love your more pictures idea. I was thinking that the other day. I got to thinking, instead of random pictures and sizes, we should be able to make bigger pictures. For many of my little crafting ideas I thought we should be able to combine crafting tables to make a bigger crafting plane, more space. That way we could manufacture large pictures. I was also thinking it would be nice if we had the option to open up a basic editor like ms paint in the game to actually make our own designs on pictures. On a related note; I want to be able to write stories in books too. I've always wanted to join a server and erect libraries in out of the way places, leaving little stories I'd written to be found.
