Hey all..post a comment here if you think that making torches non-permanent and replacing them with lanters(which are much harder to get) is a bad idea:/ What the heck in Notch thinking? if he does this its going to be ten times harder to survive in minecraft. As far as i read lanters are probably going to have glowstone as an ingrediant..and where get glowstone? The Nether...and how get to the Nether? Obsidian portal...and how you survive long enough to get diamond and mine obsidian if your torches are constantly going out? You dont. :angry.gif: So..post here and send notch an email to [email protected]. if you dont want lanterns:)

Actually, I really want lanterns. Torches are awesome, but there are cases where lanterns are more aesthetically fitting compared to torches.
What I don't want are finite torches, unless they last a really freaking long time -- and even then I'll probably mod them out. Also, torches should always be infinite in Creative.
I heard that during the updating process all currently existing torches will be changed to Lanterns. So....
1) Level a forest, make sticks.
2) Start strip mining for coal like the non-renewable resource it is!
3) Make infinity torches and put them in a chest.
4) ????
5) PROFIT
Additionally: Use Redstone Torches. :tongue.gif:

I'm all for lanterns. Torches are too easy to make, especially with charcoal. I can easily get 8 stacks of torches in the first 15 minutes of the game.
However:
If this were to happen, I think torches should be able to be held in your hand by the toolbar, and have them illuminate. This would make torches still useful even after lanterns.
Notch said that if he does add lanterns, it will change all current torches to lanterns. This is a very effective and easy way to get 100's of free lanterns at the start. Also, it's not likely that torches will burn out after 5 minutes. You'll probably get a few days use out of them. I'd assume that he would make torches even easier to acquire in this case, so that bitches like you won't complain.
Also i dont think i expressed myself very clearly:) I'd actually like to have lanterns....just dont make torches non-permanent...torches are necessary for survival...thats why their so easy to get;)you dont have torches on the your first night...the only way to survive is just build a giant dirt tower (Or turn on peaceful mode for pussies)
If you aren't capable of having a house and torches by nightfall on the first day, you suck at Minecraft. It's more then possible to have iron tools by nightfall if you try hard enough.

*NOTE* You can make a gate to the Nether with only 3 iron if your crafty enough,
And no, you see it now, so it's not done, not done til we keep our torches!
*rough translation*Is this a troll, because Notch says that he is not adding lanterns. And this looks like *Untranslatable*

Your avatar is extremely scary.
I guess the objective of the hunger meter was to avoid that.. but you can make a wheat/reed farm inside your house and have unlimited food.
