As I said in this thread a couple months ago, the forum icons are an eyesore to look at (and many others can agree). They make sense, but can be further improved, to incorporate the idea of using a relatable Minecraft block in the background as seen in the current Twitter, Facebook, and Youtube Icons. Using the same concepts I created in that thread (which are now being used), I created some redesigns for the Thread, Pinned, and Lock icon (yes I know the icons were recently changed, but we can improve them once more):
Thread- (grass block)
Pinned/Sticky- (slime block, makes perfect sense)
Lock- (bedrock block)
Due to my limited knowledge of Photoshop, I couldn't figure out how to un-pixelate the pictures in the middle. I know the forum design team can handle that, as they demonstrated in the Twitter, Facebook, and Youtube Icons.

Why do they need to have the though balloon or other white icons on them? I think it detracts from the Minecrafty look and makes it look too Twitterfacebookish.
This is what I proposed: (mine are the right two columns):
-snip-
This is the best way of doing it too IMO. Really hate the new style of the icons. The OP's aren't bad but they're a bit cluttered. No reason not to just have them as a simple block or bucket like they are in the current forum.

Huh, you just gave me an idea. We could mix harcorerobot's layout (no pictures in the middle), with the new blocks I proposed above to give the icons a fresh new look.
In case it isn't understood I am proposing getting rid of the hideous ones on here now and using only ones that look like the two right columns - ones that look like Minecraft. There's really no need to add the white areas to the sides of the block - it makes them look ugly. We're on a discussion forum - does an icon need a word balloon on it too?
I totally agree.
I don't think the current('old') forum's pictures are all that bad. I prefer your suggestions as they make more sense, look more appealing, and relate to the game.
On that note, I'd prefer if the background wasn't straight white. I've always liked the light blue background of the MC forums as it was easier on the eyes.

These are as good as the lava, water, and redstone icons on the old forum.
