If anyone hasn't heard yet, there are two new news articles, one about the forum starting back up, and the other about the snapshot 14w27a. Neither of these appear in the news subforum. Also, the "recent news" bar has disappeared from the top of the page. Was this an oversight or an intentional change?
The news subforum is now a artefact of the old forum, Cobalt providers an exceptional Content Management System that we're now using for all content on the site (news, pages), as part of this comments are now separate from the forum. This can be a bit of a jarring change but I believe it's very much worth it long term.
The latest news widget was an oversight on my part, I didn't realise many people used it (when we launched it there were a number of complaints) but it became clear at the end of the beta that it's a feature a lot of people do care about. I have a note about returning it in the future, it's not something we're prioritising but we will be returning it if possible because of how many people care about it
Also on slight tangent the new Content Management System means that for users that enjoy reading the news articles we post can get even more value, including subscribing to articles (get a notification when it's updated), following our authors (Sacheverell) and getting alerts when new articles get added! If you want to try those features out it might provide a similar experience to the old "Recent Articles" widget (you'll always know when there are new articles!) and if you have any feedback on the news system we'd love to hear it.
I always liked checking the news as forum posts.
Thus still seeing the News Forum as the top main forum is a bit annoying now.
Especially if no new content will be added to it anymore.
So if the news forum is now only an "archive" of the older news system, why does it take the prominent spot.
It is the first place people would be looking in to see if there's something "New" when they are on the forum.
Putting the CENDENT back in transcendent!
