I don’t have the time to undertake this project right now, but I’m wondering if anyone is willing and capable of creating a multiplayer server in which we could build it. Once the initial bridge (and maybe surrounding landscape) is finished, it could be saved for others to use, and then populated by other structures.
Obviously a little planning must be done before we begin. What thickness of blocks do we use for the steel cables? How large should it be? How wide is the road? Do we try to match the scale as closely as we can, or distort it so it fits better? Should we include Alcatraz and Angel Island?
i'm already making a golden gate bridge..if you want to see it its on the WoM main server
ill post a pic later
That’s not exactly the scale I was thinking of. I’m thinking of doing a larger bridge, not quite as distorted, and with a landscape built to be accurate (deep water, high hills on both sides). Plus, WoM servers are really slow because of their size, so I’d like to do it on a server dedicated for that specific build. It would also mean we could all immediately start building, rather than having to sign up with WoM and wait for admin approval.
Would using blb cheat or not when making the bridge?
I’m not sure about blb. It could be useful for building the concrete foundations, but even that could be done by hand with little trouble. Aside from screenshots and showing it off, I’ll try to work on this as hack-free as possible. (Though I’ll keep them handy for chasing off griefers.) I don’t really care if other people use hacks to help, but keep in mind it will be much more impressive if we don’t. Ultimately the decision will go to whoever can donate a server for our use.
I’ll try to see if I can get an old G3 tower working as a dedicated server, but no promises.
Is this ever going to be put into action? I would like to see the final product if it is, I like the idea of running it off of a G3 tower, ghetto :biggrin.gif:

Let's try to fit all six lanes plus the pedestrian and bike lanes. I say only the bridge for now.
Are we making Fort Point too?

It took me longer. Regardless, I’ve stated other reasons I’d rather not use WoM.
I wouldn't do it alone, however. In fact, I'd be up for any large project like this as long as we've got a good idea.

Why, thank you.
