okay, i got the strangest idea. what if there was a survival server...
WHERE THE POINT WAS SURVIVING IN THE WILD?
I know, crazy, right? every server i've been to was a whitelisted, pvp, highly civilized... thing. if you find what i'm looking for, join the crazy club!
I wanted servers exactly like this. Kinda like a vanilla server. I just want to survive in the wild.
I have hosted some sort of server like that.. although people seem to want to have civilized things, such as arenas.
I whitelisted my server to avoid griefers.
The problem lies in that people aren't just going to live in huts in the woods forever, if a server is around for days or weeks, things are going to start to build up... houses, structures, monuments, all types of civilization. So where do you draw the line on what is "wild"?
The kind of server you describe, more often than not, will quickly be reduced to a landscape of nothing but burning logs, lava, and rubble.
That being said, I joined an open PVP server yesterday, and after getting killed a couple of times within a few minutes, ended up teaming up with a guy and quickly building a secret base underground off in the distance. We struggled for a while trying to keep our location hidden but getting enough light in to dig around and find some coal. Eventually we struck into a small cavern with a lava pool and some coal, set up a small workshop and started mining down to bedrock. But always with the threat of someone suddenly busting down our gravel door, killing us, and stealing everything we worked so hard for. Not only that, but the chance that my partner could turn on me and kill me at any moment and take everything for himself. Then the server went down and never came back up. But it was one of the most fulfilling Minecraft experiences I've had in quite a while.
My server kinda fits into that criteria.. although it's a bit hard to get into the server. Also, it's whitelisted because it somehow has to have one for the server to load.. It's not hard to get in the whitelist, though.
remember, no whitelist, 100% cooperation.

I was in my house, far away from the city, and I was covering it up in dirt,
besides, It was disabled.
I will take ANY server as long as it's NOT PvP. And if it's up, of course.
