I'd really like to try out this server, it all looks good and all that.
But I don't want to donate (e.g having to pay) untill I am sure that it is worth it. Also, I don't feel the desire to give my real life name in the application form. It is not that I am too stupid to fill in an fake name, I just don't feel it is something needed.
A shame really, otherwise I'd have joined this server instantly.
Requesting the players name adds one more level of accountability. I'm sorry you don't feel the desire to enter your name, maybe later you will. :smile.gif:
Also, you can still log onto our server to try it out and have a look around and meet the community. :smile.gif: But if you want to build or use any commands, we request that players donate.
Always best to err on side of caution online, I know, but you don't have to enter your full name if you absolutely do not want to. A lot of ppl just put their first name and initial. But it is up to you of course. :smile.gif:
Anyway, yes feel free to try us out and have a look around. If you have any questions, feel free to PM me on AoM forums at http://www.ageofmining.com
looks great and i applied but the last couple of servers i was on didn't require me to donate and i'm saving all my money for more important things.
Why don't you stick wtih them then? :wink.gif:
We have a great community and dedicated admin team, and we run on top-of-the-line hardware in a world class data centre. We run redundant backups should anything bad happen. All of this costs money, and while I would love to offer our server for free (and we did for a little while), I can't afford to be paying hundreds a month. In addition, donor players are less likely to grief and ever since we have requested players donate to play, griefing has gone down. This was done at the request of the players as well, so it is not something the admins just randomly decided to implement.
ampdgmr, our server requires that you apply as well as make a contribution of $10 or more to join. This is to prevent griefers. We have a great community and you are free to log in to test us out, however to build, you will need to contribute.
Hey, me and my friends would really like to join ! We've builded alot on a private server but we dont really have any mods for it. So we are asking to join this !
So i checked out your website and forums and liked the presentations.
But truthfully, the donate-to-play really skeeves me out. I very much understand where you're coming from and why you've implemented it as the admins make a very sound argument... but there are very strong counter arguments as well.
And i do have a question regarding players who have joined before the pay-to-play was instated. When it was put into effect, were players already on the whitelist required to donate as well, or were they an exemption?
Regardless of how bold and blunt i may have been in the opening of this post, i truly am interested in the server and the map you've put up on your website depicted a rather clean looking world, as opposed to the chaos i'm used to seeing on many other servers. But a map alone isn't going to sell me, and i would very much like to see it for myself before commiting real life currency to something so readily available for free.
It seems previous applicants were allowed to walk through your server before donating, as it seemed their building / destroying abilities were revoked during their tour. I tried to visit as well and it denied me stating i wasn't on the whitelist. Was this another recent implementation, or can i apply for the whitelist and then tour the area before making a donation?
Thanks for your time and excellent work on your website.

For a $5 contribution you can play. As explained on the website, this prevents griefing and as you can see from our map and our forum, we have a great community full of great players.
We also have a youtube channel which allows you to peer into age of mining.
As when you subscribe to any game for the first time, you've most likely never played it before so there is always some risk. However, you have our forums + videos + the map to see if it is something you would be interested in.
Our server has dedicated players that spend a lot of time building great structures as well as RP'ing, thus requesting a contribution to the server ensures that mostly mature players are coming thorough, and it also helps us keep the lights on to pay for server costs each month.
Hello,
I just applied and donated (did 10 for the /home /sethome functions :smile.gif:)
The pricing seems pretty fair, and from the screen pics it should be well worth the donation.
I am looking forward to being accepted and starting to build my castle.

I don't know if I just have bad luck but after regrettably giving these guys 10 bucks 12 hours later I still have not been able to log onto this server. When according to them I should have been able to as soon as the donation was given.
Well it seems I was over reacting with this post.. They fitzed it :smile.gif:

Your account was instantly whitelisted, I apologize for you having to wait but I was at work all today. I'm awaiting your response, your name 'shadowfight89' is both on our user list and white list, so either something is not spelt right or you might be logging in with the wrong user? Anyway please PM me back on our website and I will reply as I'm now home for the evening.
Accepted, thanks for joining. :smile.gif:
