You claim that the traffic is so high that 100% enforcement is impossible, so no enforcement should be attempted, and we should give up and not even try.
If I have misunderstood that, please correct me. I believe that to be a simple summary of your view.
My view is this: 100% isn't possible. 100% isn't the goal. Just start locking all the bad threads. Do it for an hour here, an hour there. Don't wait for reports, just investigate everything on page one. Then, when done, investigate everything that is now on page 1.
Do this -- two passes, should take an hour for two passes -- once a day, at different times of the day.
It may take a few days.
It may take a week or two.
But people will realize that spamming gets threads locked.
They will stop, or the threads will disappear.
If you make no attempt to enforce the rules, you have worse than no rules -- people who obey the rules are worse off than those that don't. You are encouraging people to have no respect for rule, to have no integrity, etc.
Any attempt to enforce the rules will help. And it may take time. But it will work.
** But you have to have the admins take a "We will lock the spammy stuff" view. **

I've gotten _ONE_ response from my detailed writeup of economy questions for economy servers. One.
Everyone seems to say "We have an economy. We run X/Y/Z plugin". No one seems to pay attention to the functioning of an economy, expect for one person that said "If inflation gets to be too much, I'll just raise the price of land".
No one understands, or seems to understand, the difference between total money in an economy (average per person) versus amount available to people (the medium (50%) of money as seen by people, disregarding the top and bottom extremes).
I've seen so many games that had hyper inflationary economies. Heck, look at the cost of bank slots in WoW -- the next slot is always ten times more than the previous. That's designed around the assumption that money earned even 5 levels below level_max will be worthless.
I played, for several years, Puzzle Pirates. As time went on, their economy changed from very realistic to "new player friendly", with no economic end game left anymore. I don't play there anymore.
Balancing an economy is not an easy task. Other than EvE, I'm not sure that any big game has succeeded.
Minecraft economy doens't work well, because everyone can make everything.
We block that on our server - each job can only make a few items and you gotta buy the rest. Its the only way I can see to get a proper working economy. And it does work :tongue.gif:
Anyway back on topic, this forum _NEEDS_ a "newbie server" section again. Look at the server listings... there is ALWAYS loads of posts just called "my server" or "JOIN DIS SERVAH" or whatever. The noob servers on a VPS or local machine owned by 12 year old kids that are dead after 2 weeks... they need their own section to massively cut spam.
I saw one post today that was just a load of players on a new server talking about whether their mods should be allowed to set the time or not. Surely thats spamming and should be against the rules..?
A forum is simply not the right solution for connecting players with servers. A forum is for discussions, not a replacement for a database-like solution with a powerful search.
In this context, you're all expecting way too much from this forum. You should be out searching for wholesale better solutions rather than requesting tweaks on this entirely incorrect foundation.
And before you say it, yes, I know PlanetMinecraft is just as bad. They're really just a forum too, when it comes to servers (with bumps and all). And the other sites which rank their servers by vote aren't credible because all the popular servers there bribe their players with in-game items to get votes.
Connecting players with servers is a very important problem for the Minecraft community to solve, and no one has offered a decent solution, yet. Forums are definitely the wrong approach.

Will moderators actually answer reports? I know I have reported countless threads that break this rule (especially after what happened to me a while back with regard to this rule)...
I look on the forum the next day, and the thread is not locked, the user does not appear to be banned, and the thread still thrives with bumping...
What will be done to resolve this?
There are tons of things the moderators have to deal with so yours wouldn't be dealt with right away, some of my issues have lasted a whole week or more.
Heres a simple idea: inside the "Survival Servers" thread, add these topics. Small (1-30) Medium (31-150) Large (151+) In the small section, no bumping should be enforced the most, and any double post person should have their account banned. It should also be reinforced about no advertising in other threads, as the small servers struggle the most. Medium and Large could be anything. If you used this, it would be easy to find the server you want, without either googling or scrolling through pages of text to find a good server.
Hope you use this suggestion guys
KiwiKrafter ftw
Why can't there just be a bump button in this section? Only the creator can bump their thread, and it's done every 10-20 minutes or whatever. When they bump, they must do a captcha. Wouldn't that solve everything? Everyone gets fair game, and the threads aren't cluttered with random spam.
I've seen this work before on many popular gaming forums (one including Runescape) and it worked just fine. The system right now is just stupid, because if you put rules on bumping, the honest people who don't have a whitelist system or whatever and don't want to disobey their rules will never get any popularity on their server, while all the big ones that bump random **** get all the fame. It's ridiculous.
I constantly talk about factions and stuff in server topic's in Survival Servers list its obvious when your actualy spamming or just mass posting I dont understand why people would be scared to post 2 things in 10 min if you post like 5 things in 6 min then thats over doing it. Other than that I never get in trouble...And Iv only got 1 Warning by not reading these rules :3 But to me the Rules sound quite Simple Basic and most people in this World have Common Sense and if your a Forum Staff then you deffinatly have Common Sense So really just dont MASS spam post and Forum Moderators/Admin Wont care.
I really don't see what the big deal is with bumping. Go look at d2jsp trading forums. They move 10x faster than this forum. They have a bump button which you can use once every four hours and iirc any double posts are automatically deleted. It's not remotely difficult to code, gives everyone a fair chance to sell their items at some point, and controls spam fairly well.
But no bumps at all? And no duplicate threads? So I post once, no one sees it because of the big threads full of spam, and that's that for my server on this forum? That makes a lot of sense.
Yes it is it for your thread, i understand making a new one after a month or two, but making two just to inceease traffic is stupid. Also, why the bump button? If you really want to promote your server, use something called a sig it promotes better.
Curious as to why we are not able to edit our titles.
For example: our server just removed mcmmo for quite a while, and we have no way of removing that information from our title, thus it is misleading new users

make a decent server advertisement. and snipe for people in the looking for section. if theyr thread ask for a server like urs paste the server advert.
this is how most smaller/medium servers do it and its the only thing keeping us alive
Exactly. The rule is not enforced.

Paving the way to a better world!
No, doing so is considered duplicating your thread, which is against the rules.

Yeah, really.
Should be able to allow bumping every hour or so (amount of threads is so high). And those big servers are no fair with their white list apps.
