UPDATE: we are TEMPORARILY OFFLINE with version 1.0.0!
Overview
Opulentia is an actual hardcore server, where there will never be protected towns or a safe place from other players. Players can form towns if they like, but they will never be able to disable PVP in the town. Rely on each other instead, or don’t make enemies!
The only location where players cannot kill each other is spawn (for an obvious reason). We have also kept plug-ins to a minimum so the gameplay is as original as possible. Because of this, moderators are also not allowed to give teleports or items to players.
We will NEVER change worlds, so all your structures and buildings will stay permanently. Unless someone tears it down for their own benefit.
Currently we have a very strong player base, and the maximum capacity is 50 players (but the limit is expected to rise soon)
We base the server on many other servers, including the MMORPG Project. From the experience of many other servers, we feel that our minecraft server should be tricky to survive, and hard to dominate.
Spawn
We’re keeping it simple, because huge, hard to navigate spawns are incredibly annoying.
There are no official buildings besides spawn. Feel free to do anything you want outside spawn! (Try not to violate the rules though – see below)
The world
This image is a representation of the map of Opulentia, where each pixel represents 100 blocks. The yellow zone is spawn, the red zone is none-PVP or build zone, and the green zone is where you are free to build and fight to your heart's content. Note that this map is completely to scale.
Rules – PVP, stealing, greifing etc. MUST READ! Stealing: stealing is allowed, but be careful of vengeance – you can hide but you can’t run! Also, see the section regarding stealing for more specific rules on stealing. PVP: kill anyone you feel like. In fact, you loot 10% of one's money if you kill him/her. Think twice before attacking rnw159 however. No logging out while in combat! You might find a small surprise when you log in… Chatting: no offensive or racist words. Swearing is frowned upon but slight venting is fine. If someone tells you to stop, however, stop. Spamming can lead to bans. Griefing: defined as: “mindlessly destroying blocks or player creations”. If someone calls you a greifer, kindly explain the purpose of your act and you will be fine. Looking for chests is fine, as long as you do not leave holes everywhere ; replacing the blocks are the best way to avoid conflict. Dumping lava and water is greifing. Taking specific building materials is not greifing! Glitches/hacking: NEVER ALLOWED. The discovery of any bugs, glitches or hackers must be reported immediately.
Duping: only attempt this if you want to get banned. Special code: work out the following calculation and type the answer into the “prove it” section of your application: the character length of your minecraft in-game name (IGN). For example, I, "nickyh1200", would insert "10" as my code.
Major Plug-ins Hawk Eye: modification which records every block you break and every chest you loot. This allows moderators to know whether you have been bad (greifing/hacking) or good (proper looting and killing). It also means we (moderators and above) can undo the damage done by greifers. homeX: enables /home and /sethome, allowing you to teleport to a set location after staying still for 10 seconds. Timber: allows players beyond a certain rank to chop down a tree after destroying its base (the bottom wood block) - all wood blocks of that tree will instantly be changed to item form and can be picked up. A sapling will also automatically be planted at the base. Iconomy(work in progress): allows currency for easier trade. Use /money commands to pay other people during trade. You start off with 100 dollars, earn money by selling gold ingots or gold blocks at spawn, and lose a small percentage of the total when you get killed by other players. Herochat: allows global chat (/ch g), local chat (/ch l), and private messaging support (/tell [name] [message]).
Money
Through the killing of players or selling gold at spawn (with /shop commands), players can gain money to buy items at the shop in spawn, or simply show off their wealth at other players. Currently gold ingots sell for 2 dollars each, and gold blocks for 20 dollars each. The shop allows players to buy ice blocks, grass blocks, webs and other items!
Deaths
It is important to know that on our server, deaths have no penalty except all items and experience orbs being dropped at the location of death, and the player can choose to instantly respawn at spawn. Some players have questioned us why we do not ban players for a certain period of time after death like other "hardcore" servers, and the answer is simple - our server has existed before "hardcore" was popularly defined by death-bans. We also believe that death-bans only ruin players' experience on the server if they are forced to stop playing for up to a day on the server, especially if they enjoy it. Other servers made their choices, and we made ours.

Clans
Opulentia has quite a few clans, none of which are supported or protected by the server. Below are the links to the threads of the clans...if they have one. Most clans can't be bothered with it. That doesn't mean they aren't dangerous, though.
Specific rules regarding greifing or raiding
V = allowed; X = not allowed; C=controversial (shades of grey)
Note that these rules generally apply to your actions while raiding the houses of others, not while you make your own base. Suggestions and amendments are always welcome as well.
1. Lava/water
Obviously some people decorate their house with water or lava, while some walk around carrying buckets of ‘em. This section clarifies what actions are allowed or not allowed.
V Using a bucket or other block to remove the lava or water, even if that means the source block will be gone forever.
X Dumping lava inside someone’s house or somewhere that would obviously allow it to spread all over the place. That is griefing and will lead to a ban.
X Breaking a block so that it unleashes lava or water. We are aware that it may be accidental (or even a trap on purpose), so this rule will be closely examined with the action logs. If the lava or water were concealed by glass blocks (and thus visible) and one then breaks it, we will consider it as greifing because it was obviously intentional.
C Dumping water to cause lava to become obsidian (cobblestone is fine). This is because some people dislike the time needed to break through obsidian. Note that this is meant to be applied during raids!
X Using lava in combat. This is frowned upon by just about every player, and since it will very likely cause environmental damage, it is never allowed.
V Decoration or defensive traps using lava: obviously allowed. If you cannot place lava, ask someone who can to help you. As long as the use is legit, even moderators can help you place them.
2. Fire
Fire spread is currently disabled, so forest fires are not of a concern at the moment, however, the destructive ability of fire should still be noted.
V Using fire as for decoration, a fireplace or a trashcan (especially with netherrack)
V Using fire to clear out a small area of a forest
X Using fire to burn down/destroy other people’s structures. There is no point in this. You yield nothing.
X Using fire in combat – setting people on fire or as a blockade.
C Using fire to destroy loots or items from a recently raided and destroyed chest – still debating over this. It’s probably best to just leave the chest alone.
3. Glass
This is a tricky bit, as glass drops nothing when destroyed.
V Destroying glass in order to gain access to the inside of structures.
X Randomly destroying glass without any purpose whatsoever. Since glass cannot be raided, any random holes found in glass structures may be considered greifing.
X Breaking glass blocks to release water, lava, and mobs (claiming the release of hostile mobs would be hard to prove, however).
4. (Placing) Obsidian
It is obviously a pain to mine obsidian blocks, especially when they are placed intentionally.
V Placing obsidian to create a structure.
V Placing obsidian to block pathways of others or access to whatever is behind the chest.
5. Mining for pathways
This section is related to making a hole in someone’s wall.
V Making a straight 1*2 hole in the wall to get into someone’s base. Note that tunnels tend to attract the attention of moderators, suspecting the use of xray mods. This rule generally applies to people brave (or bold) enough to make a house on the surface.
X Making an excessively huge hole in a wall, since that is obviously not needed.
6. Mining for materials
This section is regarding events where one logs in to find his house in ruins or lacking a few iron blocks.
X Raiding cobblestone and dirt. We do not accept this as a reason to take apart someone’s house, as it would be far safer and beneficial to mine out your own underground base.
V Mining for wood, wooden planks, glowstone, iron/gold/diamond blocks etc. These blocks are considered valuable and value is a good reason to take it.
7. Total annihilation
Some people dislike foreign structures near their house, so this section could also have been titled “how to properly clean up your lawn without being considered greifing”. Obviously people won’t like it when they log on and discover their house in ruins or simply missing.
X Poking random holes in a wall. This obviously has no purpose whatsoever other than the pleasure of greifing.
V Completely removing one’s house. The appropriate elevation to stop would probably be sea level, since at that point one could easily put dirt over the remainder and make it look more natural (assuming people dig mining shafts in their house)
V Using TNT to assist with the destruction. Excessive use may be considered griefing, however.
X Leaving small chunks of blocks floating in the air. If you wanted to make something disappear, MAKE IT disappear, not leave a mess.
8. General PVP rules
V Killing people. Obviously the server would be no fun if we put an X in the front of this rule.
X Killing people at spawn. This is meant especially on killing new players or people who just died, and since usually there is no way one can fight back, it is not allowed. Generally, try not to attack people first if they’re naked and not wielding a thing. If they do switch out a diamond sword and charge towards you, however, they are obviously not new and obviously the aggressor.
V Self defense under any condition. That means if a new player is bold enough to provoke you first, even with a stick, you ARE allowed to kill him/her. Verbally encouraging players to attack you is frowned upon, however.
X Logging out in combat. NEVER do this. You will be awarded with death if you do so, though, so you might as well try.
V Committing suicide upon the possibility of losing the battle. Generally done by players to prevent the enemy looting their items or money. Be a bit more careful as to where you place your lava block or fire, however. If you do cause some damage to the world
9. Miscellaneous things
General reminders that aren’t enough to get their own section go here. Might not even be combat or griefing related.
DO: replant tress after cutting down the whole thing. Leaving floating trees all over the place is allowed but really makes the world ugly.
PS: if you missed the much shorter general rules on the first post and don't know what to put for the "prove it" section, here is the message again. It is highly recommended that you still read the more generic set of rules above, though. 'Special code: work out the following calculation and type the answer into the “prove it” section of your application: the character length of your minecraft in-game name (IGN).
