I've been hard at work on Lava Fields, and I've gotten to a point where I'm happy with the work I've gotten done. Lava Fields will be a multi-level story driven survival map series. Every Monday and Friday I'll post an update on the story until the hopeful release of the first map in January. There will be at least five maps in the series, but I'm still debating the final number of maps and how to make the last one. Left 4 Dead 2 has taken up my time recently, but here are some pictures of it so far:
I know that it looks incomplete as of right now, but I can assure you it will not stay that way. The problem is I can't work on this on my computer with the awesome Nvidia 9800 GT graphics card, because it's a piece of crap computer that crashes when I do Minecraft for too long (But it can run other games like Left 4 Dead 2 and Team Fortress 2 fine. .-.) so I have to do most work on a laptop which I get about 25 FPS on instead of 150-200.
Talking about the images separately...
Goldman - I had originally intended to dig down all the way to the bottom and make a city in the walls, but it would have been too difficult. You can't see it but there are sponges behind me keeping the water from the map's edge from flooding... I wonder what happens if you remove those...
Lightning Struck Hill - Ties into the story directly. I spent about an hour on this, trying to get it just right.
Unfinished Cathedral - I had originally planned to build a tower, but it turned into a cathedral quickly thereafter. It says unfinished but it actually is. Storyline wise it was never finished. On the far right side of the picture you can see some wood. That's part of a crappy boat I made. Anyone have some examples of some good boats on Minecraft? I'm terrible at boats.
"Bookkeeper's Library" (Not actual title) - You'll see what this will look like soon enough.
Story so far:
1000 years ago, mankind lived on the surface, on the Green Weeds. They lived in harmony and peace with nature and everything around them. That changed when a man named Cahretarc was born. He tried to overthrow the king and establish his new gods over theirs. The gods
I'll post a new picture every Sunday, so stay tuned for a new picture tomorrow. Remember that this is a work-in-progress, so things are subject to change and will change. Unfinished buildings will be finished.
To-do list (minor-medium things):
*Finish up other buildings
*Start other buildings
*Work on underground
*Get lava
*I'm using too much obsidian. I need to cut back on that and modify some obsidian-structures (such as the cathedral)
I'm open to all constructive criticism. Don't just say "lol it sux". Give me a reason why so I can fix it (unless it's a really stupid suggestion). Don't just say "nice work!" give me a reason why and what you liked. In both scenarios give me some suggestions on how to fix it.
I have a Livestream up which you can watch me work on Lava Fields on (plus it allows me to go back and see how I build something when I'm working on the crashing computer. I also play other games where you can watch me fail at Counter-strike and win at Left 4 Dead 2). I'll update below when I'm streaming and I'll specify what I'm streaming.
I really like this, I hope you really advance it but yeah it's obvious that it is not finished, I can't wait to see it finished.
To be honest the cathedral does look finished, I understand what you mean by it not being finished in the story line but finished in map. I say that it looks finished except for the fact of no roof.

Talent didn't go anywhere, it just gets lost in all the noise. You have to find it.
