Really, I hate them to death. I would love for them to be completely removed. How would the game still be challenging then? Simple. Give the other monsters the same ability to dig that you have (but with half the dig speed or less, depending). This would have the double bonus of making the harder to get materials(gold, coal, etc) actually useful. Imagine if while in your little castle that all of those zombies out there were slowly destroying your walls. Sounds a lot more fun to me. And if you really want, add the creepers back in, but make them MUCH less common than they are now.
They are slow like skeletons, but don't have a range weapon. Their explosion can be a threat, but the knock back force of your attacks usually put you well out of range of their explosion. Don't destroy them near your base and they can't usually do damage to it (Unless the tussle with a skeleton (Which has never happened to me unfortunately.))
This is in a similar vein to Dwarf Fortress and digging enemies. While the ability for enemies to dig in that game would add a lot of hilarity and fun, it would completely ruin some gamestyles. So somebody said "If you don't want diggers, turn off invasions!" This ignorant fool ignored the fact that people would still want invasions, they just don't want the ground littered in holes. Some some more conservative base designers, this could mean enemies digging more of a base than you.
There is a similar thing here. Creepers have an explosion effect that can destroy everything. While this allows for easy digging it also makes custom maps impossible. One cannot strive for grandeur because creepers will blow it up. Custom maps with raised water/magma will always certainly flood. So somebody said "If you don't want creepers, don't play survival!" Ah, but the poor ignorant fool forgot that there are more features that one would want in survival other than creepers and their explosions. So there are really two solutions here:
1. Allow creepers on/off in the server/singleplayer box when the next update comes. This seems more hacky than needed.
2. Fix creepers to not blow up adminblocks. These are blocks made to be unbreakable. With this one can hold lava and water at bay. Custom maps would actually work.
I must also note the problem of mentally replacing creeper in this post with griefer. I wonder why.
Duke, for mentioning DF, I love you. Not nearly enough people play that game. Wouldn't it be awesome if they somehow got this games graphics in DF?
Anyways, I agree. Maybe allow making the admin blocks by combining several not-so-easy-to-find materials together? To prevent random griefers from encasing the map in adminblocks.
A survival mode without creepers is like a gentleman without a monocle.
That is to say HE IS A ****-POOR EXCUSE FOR A GENTLEMAN IF YOU ASK ME.
Why don't you use Sandbox mode for those? :wink.gif:

btw Hi fellow nifforumer (I'm talking to you, Pick)

SteeJan, sorry to break it to you, but creepers destroy even admin blocks :]
